Princess Weekend 2022

I received an email from ACS today after I requested to be added to their email list. Here’s the info I received from them - I figured I’d share for anyone else thinking about registering with a charity:

Thanks so much for reaching out and for your interest in joining Team DetermiNation for one of the upcoming runDisney event weekends! The American Cancer Society/Team DetermiNation will be an official runDisney charity partner again and we will have entries to all four races in the 21-22 runDisney race season. Being a member of the team is a great way to make your miles more meaningful and we’d love to have you on the team!

I have added you to our email list. All charities are currently waiting on contracts from runDisney before we get the green light to open registration on our ACS websites. With that being said, I do not have a date I can provide you with that you should expect our registration to be open (I wish!). This will depend on runDisney. You will receive an email from me when our registration goes live. Please keep in mind, this email does not guarantee you a spot on the team. Entries will be available on first-come, first served basis, so please make sure you register shortly after receiving an email from me to secure your spot.

In the meantime, feel free to check out our FAQ page, our website, our video, and our runner testimonials. These will help you get a better understanding of the team experience and what to expect with Team DetermiNation. Please keep in mind some of the FAQ information could be subject to change based on runDisney alterations to in-person experience and/or processes.

Once you’ve had an opportunity to review this information if you still have questions feel free to reach out. I hope to work with you!
Thanks for posting this! I am definitely interested in a charity bib. Does anyone have experience with their hotel discounts that they offer to the charity runners? Just curious as to how much of a discount it is, and whether I can still use my same TA and apply it? I already have a room reservation... Thanks!

Thank you for sharing! When you were looking at charity registration options, did you notice if they allow children under age 18 to do charity bibs?
I just went back to the ACS FAQ website and found these two quotes that make it seem like they do!

"DetermiNation is the American Cancer Society’s endurance program, spanning a variety of sports including cycling, running, hiking, yoga, and more. The collective efforts of the dedicated athletes who use their fortitude to help raise funds to take down cancer are nothing short of amazing. This supportive community welcomes athletes of all ages and skill-levels who want to take on their next big challenge!"

"If you are registering a child who does not have an email address, either use another email address that belongs to you or create an email address for the purposes of registering your child."

If you end up using charity registration I would contact the specific charity directly to be sure.

I don't have any experience with charity registration yet, but it seems like ACS partners with a travel agency, so I would guess that you wouldn't be able to use their discount with your TA. I don't think I can post the link here but you can find their information on the FAQ page under "Weekend Travel and Accommodations."

Thanks for sharing! I wonder if charity racing registration will occur before or after general registration. Perhaps registration for W&D and Marathon will reveal all!

Also, running up Main Street and through the castle was so super special. I totally missed out on the photo spot *in front* of the castle where the compass is. I never even saw the access point for that shot...I think I might have been too starry eyed and looking up to notice it. I did get a good jump shot towards the bottom of the ramp after exiting the castle, but just kept with the curve/over the bridge towards Sleepy Hollow.
I will not be jumping for any future photos...totally aggravated my knee. Luckily the injury took a full 24 hours to really mature, so I finished without issue.

I'm wondering the same thing! I hope charity registration is after general. I want to do the 5K and the challenge, but I'd rather not have to commit to such a large amount of fundraising to do so!

I'm sorry to hear about your knee!

I have run in no fewer than 6 races that go around & through the castle, and I have never located that access point for the castle shot. Same thing: I'm too busy looking around and taking in the moment! Next time I'll find it!
Too funny! I've done it twice. If you stay to the left when getting out of the castle, there's usually a cast member at the end of the ramp waving you over to the photo spot (to your left). There's a long line of photo pass photographers all lined up in front of the castle, and (by the time I get there) long lines of people at each one. The lines move very quickly though, so don't let that discourage you! When you get to the front of the line there's usually a piece of tape to show you where to stand, and then they take your photo and you run back into the race! Usually a lot of people ask to take a jump shot. My first year I just took a standing one. Last time I posed for a standing one, and then the photographer asked me if I'd like to try a jump shot so I said yes. I was so glad she did because it actually came out good, and I never would've done it otherwise! (I'm too afraid to waste my castle photo opportunity on a jump shot that might look bad!)

I’d rather not, either…I give to several charities through a matching programs with my employer and have it sucked right out of my paycheck. On the other hand, if I do manage to raise the full pledge amount, the entry fee I would have paid anyway gets covered. Still time to think on it!

and thank you! My knee is A-ok! It could have been worse…got a shot and took a few weeks off from running after Princess and it never bothered me again. 🤞🏻I guess the saying “nothing new on race day” also means no new gymnastic moves.

The charities don't all necessarily operate this way. I ran Goofy in 2020 and the charity fundraising goal was separate from race registration, i.e. my fundraising commitment got me access to the bib--but I paid for the bib. I'm not sure how many/if any cover the cost of the bib in the fundraising requirement.

Just make sure you understand what a specific charity is offering.

Ohhhh, hadn’t thought too long about that statement, but fundraising on top of the entry fee makes more sense. If someone is giving me money, I want it to go towards the charity *not* my fee.
Regardless, I’d likely be covering most if not all the pledge myself.

I am going to try to sign up for the 10k. I had surgery right after the half marathon 2020 and have struggled to have motivation to run the way I used to.
I think having a race on the schedule will give me some motivation to get my lazy self off the couch.
I will only be able to fly in for 2 nights since we have multiple big trips this year but that’s ok with me.
Would love to sign up DD16 to do it with me but I doubt I’ll be able to get 2 slots

Given availability for Wine & Dine an hour after registration opened, I'm feeling pretty ok about getting into Princess! (And now I've jinxed us all :duck:)
That’s ok, I already jinxed myself by buying a colorful running ensemble (as opposed to my usual boring black and grey stuff) in preparation for Princess 😆😆

I logged in an hour after it was open just see... and could not believe everything but 10k was still open. I really was tempted to buy the challange... but my husband reminded me we cannot afford it and already have tickets and room for princess but I was soo tempted. I am less stressed about our run though for sure.

I wish they would give more information about the princess sunrise yoga. Will transportation be provided, or will we have to get to the Magic Kingdom ourselves?
Just a guess, but I’d imagine that transportation would be provided just like the races. I’m not planning on registering for it (I love the idea of it, but yoga and I just don’t mesh lol) but I wonder how check in would work. For races you print your waiver and bring it to the expo before the event. It looks like yoga is the same day as the expo, so what will they use as your registration confirmation that morning?
