Last night we were watching Princess and the Frog and DD turned around and asked me why didn't Beauty and Beast get married ??
I told her I did not know.
Then she went to the movie cabinet and pulled out every princess movie, to show which princesses were not married.
And plans to ask each princess at the park why they are not married? :scared:
Is this an appropriate question for my DD to ask? :confused3

The list is
Beauty (belle)
Aurora
Snow White
And I think Mulan

updated: Pocahontas is added to this list.....

Sounds like something my DD's would say. :lmao:

Can you tell her that they DID get married, but it was after the movie? Like maybe they had a long engagement? :)

Seems like it might make the Princesses uncomfortable. I would try to defuse the situation by explaining to her that even though they don't have the wedding in the movie, that they got married afterwards. Seems easy enough to me.

lol out of the mouths of babes.

I think it is totally an appropriate question. Especially from a child.

But I guarantee the answer will be one of two:

1. We are married, you just didn't see it cause it happened after the movie was over.

2. We are getting married soon.

I think all of those movies imply they will get married and live happily ever after, but just don't show it.

Belle and Beast are married. Belle was a peasant, while Beast was a prince. The only way she could be made a princess was by marriage. In fact I believe it's a Disney trivia of who's the only princess that became royalty by marriage. I know I read that trivia somewhere but I can't remember where I read that.

Snow White, Aurora and Mulan are all married too. Although technically I believe (I can't be 100% sure) Mulan isn't a princess. She is married to the one of the members of the royal court though, so I *think* that does makes part of the royalty circle but I'm not sure how.

And yes I am one of the history geeks, so all this in IMO.

I think it would be so cute if she asked! I'm sure they have been asked questions like that in the past so they may be prepared. I love it! :goodvibes

Let her ask away, :rotfl2: do you think it will be the first time they heard it? I hear the princesses have fun with it, especially when the princes are around.

Cinderella wasn't a princess either...Her father was just a landowner. It was only her Stepmother and Stepsisters who were members of the aristocracy.
;-)

This is funny. The things kids come up with. I love it.

I don't know if I have the correct answers, but here's what I think.

Mulan: At the end of her movie, the guy (what's his name, Shang?) goes to speak with Mulan's father, presumably to ask for her hand in marriage. Then in Mulan II, they get married in the end when Mu-shu pretends to be the god of love, or something like that.

Aurora: She and Prince Philip were betrothed as children, but never knew it. After Prince Philip kisses Aurora and breaks the spell, I think you can assume that they do get married in the end. The movie just ends before the wedding, but it says, "They all lived happily ever after".

Snow White: I think that they get married, but the movie just ends with her waking up, and riding off in to the sunset on the Prince's horse. In her song, Snow White says, "And wedding bells will ring, Someday when my dreams come true."

Belle: Your daughter has me on this one. The movie just ends with them dancing and the spell being broken. I like to assume that they get married in the end. On another note, it has always bothered me a little bit that Belle appears in the parks with Beast as "the beast", and not as the transformed prince. You would think that the spell was broken, and he gets to be human again.

you gotta love kids. so open and honest. I have to say i don't think that question ever crossed my mind.

I would imagine the answer from the characters would be "we did, and we lived HAPPILY EVER AFTER"

I think it would be great for your child to ask this question.

The last scene of The Little Mermaid is Ariel and Eric getting married.

Jasmine and Aladdin get married in the third movie, the direct to video movie.

My Professors always have a mouthful to say about marriage and Disney movies, hee hee hee. (I'm a Gender Studies minor and Communications major!)

My favorite thing about Mulan is that so little of it actually dealt with a relationship.

Maybe Belle and the Beast are like most modern couples and trying to live co-habiate first and they are giving a sly wink about it.

I'd let her ask. I love to hear the answers the princesses and other face characters give to kids and adults. I'm sure they've heard everything and, provided it is an appropriate question (which this one is), they'll provide an appropriate answer. Aurora was wonderful one time when DD and I went on a trip without DH (he just isn't a Disney guy). We asked where Prince Phillip was and she asked where our prince was. I explained that he stayed home this time. She did a sort of side bar with DD, who was maybe 9 at the time, and said, isn't it wonderful that he stayed at our castle to fight the dragons while we were gone.

, Just kidding ;)

But they were cohabitating! Belle was living in the castle with Beast, right?

Aurora and Phillip are married...in one of the Enchanted Tales DVDs, the story talks about them being married and her taking care of the castle and all its business while he's away!

Not that this would be a question to ask the princesses, but why do so many of the Disney movie characters only have one parent, or a parent who dies? I know in reality land, this happens-but it seems like the ratio in Disney movies is about 90% one parent/parent deceased.

Sorry to hijack your thread-I just always wonder about this!

I think it would be perfectly fine to ask the princesses the marriage question! I have heard that if you ask Minnie why she and Mickey aren't married-you get a great response!

Well, most disney stories were based on fairy tales. In the true old fairy tales, much much worse happens than just having a parent die.

Before my mom died, I hated disney stories b/c of that. About a year or two after my mom died, realizing while looking back at how much I had changed, how much I had grown and become different, I realized that there's a reason for stories to happen after a life change like that.

If Cinderella's mom hadn't died, the story wouldn't have happened. If Mufasa (Simba's father?) hadn't been killed, Simba wouldn't have gone on his journey of self-discovery and might have ended up with siblings who might have been just like his uncle and who knows what might have happened then?

If Coral hadn't been eaten by the pirhana (no, not pirhana...whatever kind of fish that was), Nemo would have been a more normal kid, Marlin wouldn't have been so protective, and the whole journey probably wouldn't have happened b/c Nemo wouldn't have defied his overprotective parent by staying at the fishing boat. No need to find him!

etc etc etc. The stories start with or just after a parent dies b/c it is a big huge deal that changes how the stories of their lives will go. Otherwise it's just a happy family, and happy families don't make for interesting or compelling stories.

Not that I've thought about it a lot or anything!
