I was going to suggest the exact same plan. I think 3 months is a reasonable amount of time to be able to build up your endurace to walk a 5k. The more time you have to train though, the less likely a chance you would have of injuring yourself.
BTW: I went from sitting on the couch myself, to walking 2 miles a day, to running the Disney marathon from Jan 06 --> Jan 07.
OK, Dave, that is the inspiration I need to hear. I started running the end of the summer and ran 3 5Ks in September / October. I keep thinking maybe, just maybe, I could handle a 10K if I work at it. I have done it a couple of times on the treadmill now, but that isn't the same as outdoors. I can't wait until all this ice melts so I can get back to training and pushing along again! You just took away a layer of doubt about whether this is doable. Thank you!
