I can't seem to remember or find when the Fantasy Faire is taking over the Carnation Gardens area. Does anyone remember? Will it be ready for this summer? I am sort of bummed because I really enjoyed the area as a nice quiet place and the it turning into a wonderful place for swing bands at night during the summer months. I understand that the music will still have its home there.

I’m hoping it won’t happen. There are plenty of places in Fantasyland to stick this thing. The princesses need to stay behind the castle and not turn Main Street into Middle Earth. It seems that modern Disney cares less and less about theming these days, with British nannies running bakeries on Main Street USA, present day cartoon fish in Tomorrowland, a British bear in an American back woods, and a message of peace from the children of the world turned into “find the hidden Disney character”.

That was the plan. I'm not sure now though since they haven't started but a couple days ago Disney did say it was still happening for 2012, just not when in this year.

They are keeping the stage, though retheming it so it's possible it will still have music at night.

I have to say I agree. The bandstand holds sentimental value for me and I'm a newbie for Disneyland. Some great Jazz musicians have played there and it holds so much nostalgia. Date at Disneyland. I understand that things are always going to change but I wish they would have consulted me before. :confused3

The worst part is they have areas in Fantasyland like the old Motorboat Cruise area and the Skyway tower that are just sitting unused. Those would be perfect places to put this princess thing where it would not involve the medieval princesses in small town turn-of-the-century America.

I don't understand the negativity toward this project. When I first read about it on the Disney Parks Blog, my initial reaction was very positive. I thought it looked beautiful while still allowing for the bands and dancing at night. It's an expansion of an underused piece of the park that looks like it will fit seemlessly with the castle and Fantasyland.

I don't see it as infringing on Main Street at all. It's part of Fantasyland adjacent to the hub just like Pixie Hollow and Snow White's Grotto. It has nothing to do with Main Street any more than the other land's that border the hub.

Somehow swing dancing in Middle Earth does not seem the same as it does in this charming area where Walt once danced.

It’s not part of Fantasyland. The Carnation PLAZA Gardens are part of the Central Plaza (hence the word PLAZA in the name) which is the northern terminus of Main Street. If they weren't, they would be called the Carnation FANTASYLAND Gardens. Instead, the word PLAZA was included in the name the same as the Plaza Pavilion and the Plaza Inn. If you look at old maps of Disneyland, all of these were shown as food venues on Main Street.

You can also read some of those who have petitioned for the Plaza Gardens area to remain untouched.

Walt wanted the main street area to have a bandstand for music like back in the days of old, not a medieval village. Too many great performers have played there and it would be a shame to ignore that tradition. Isn't that what makes Disneyland great?

I'm all for a Princess Fantasy Faire. Put it more in Fantasyland or back by the big stage area by IASM.

Just my two cents.
