I will be going in December with my 2.5 and 4.5 year old.
Just wondering how much flexibility there is in the princess dress sizing as they are on sale right now. Wondering if I can buy size 4 dresses and have them fit both?

My youngest is not much different in sizing than my oldest. Right now my oldest wears a size 3/4 and my youngest a size 2. So I'm guessing my Christmas, they will be even closer, like size 3 and 4.

I think you'd be better off getting the older one a size larger, so you could get more wear out of it.

Okay, so I measured the 2/3 vs. the 4. The 2/3 is still almost to my oldests ankles (27" from shoulder to hem). The 4 is dragging on the ground by 2" (30" from shoulder to hem).

So if she grows 4" in 10 months, the 2/3 will still be below her knees and the 4 will be just below her ankles.

I want the costumes to be useable at the park and them not tripping on them.

The 2/3 is at the ground for my youngest, but should be fine by the trip.

Just deciding if I should get 2/3 for them both. I'd hate to have my oldest tripping on her costume all the time.

I like to go up a size in costumes. It gives them room to grow and enjoy the costumes longer. Both of your princesses may fit the same size but I would suggest that if you are close to a Disney Store, take them to try on the costumes and you can make your decision based on that.

You can pin up the hem, in pleats. That's what I used to do when I made princess dresses for my girls.

OP, you mention length, but how about width? Are both your girls the same size around?

I'd get bigger just so you don't get that nasty-tight look and feel. You can always pin the back to make it a bit smaller, but you can't make a small dress bigger.

I dint know which dresses u r looking at but they r a lot shorter than previous editions. I bought my dd4 a belle dress today and on the model it hits below the knee. She is a 4/5 now -- I got her the 5/6. My dd 9 months -- I am just waiting until closet to our vacation to but hers. Don't know what size she will be and could try her older sisters dresses from our last trip

Thanks ladies :)

My girls are the same around the chest, 21". Both skinny.

I will look at the new dresses tomorrow in store and decide. :)

I did measure DD's Mulan dress and it is way too long on her at 3.5 years old, with a size 4. It drags on the ground.

I do know I will need the 2/3 size for my youngest. Just need to decide on which size for my oldest. She is short for her age, which is the issue.

Right now her Mulan one is dragging on the ground (size 4).

Well, the last Disney dress I bought, I bought or my then 8 year old daughter, it was Alice. I bought a 10. It was so short I had to make her bloomers.

DD is 4.5 now, really tall for her age, and is just now in a girls size 6. Her size 4 Snow White dress still fits her, but it's hard to get off at times. I am bummed since it will only get tighter by the time we go to Disney, and it's her favorite - linger style from 2 yrs ago. She has a size 5/6 Cinderella dress that she got from grandma at age 3 when she wore a 4T. It was huge for about a year, but now fits her perfectly. I would recommend 5/6 also for your older daughter. :)

My DD, just turned 5 last month has worn the same cinderella dress our last 2 trips to Disney which is a size 2/3 dress. She did get a new one for this past November trip which was a size 5/6, but the 2/3 size she was still wearing at age 4. She weighs 42 pounds & is about 43" tall.

Thanks ladies!

Are all the ones on the Disney Store site, the new shorter size? Any idea?

I bought her Mulan one after Halloween 2012. It looks identical to the one on the Disney store page.

Also, my oldest is 38" and 32lbs for size reference at 3.5 years old.

My youngest is 23lbs and 32".

Can anyone tell me a shoulder to hem measurement for the new dresses (size 4 and 5/6)? Thanks so so much!

As a Previous poster said, the new ones at the Disney Store are REALLY short. (The park ones at WDW are still the long ones...I looked 2 days ago). My DD is 22 months & just a hair under 34 inches. The 2/3 fits her right now as a short dress. I can't imagine it fitting her best friend who will be 3 next month. The old style princess dresses my daughter has in size 2/3 are still huge on her & dragging on the floor. The Sofia dress, on the other hand, I had to buy a 24 month dress because the 2/3 was huge on her so keep that in mind if you want Sofia. I like that the dresses are short enough to not worry about tripping over but I don't like that they are same price for a lot less material & will be outgrown a lot more quickly!

Went and tried on dresses today.

The old 2/3 sizing is the same length as the 5/6 length now for all the dresses except the wedding dresses. The wedding dresses are floor length, the rest are shorter.

So I will be ordering the 5/6 for my oldest. I am going to wait till closer to buy for my youngest, but I'm thinking she will fit the 2/3, maybe the 4 with the shorter dresses.
