Anybody have any ideas how to make my DD's brand new Cinderella princess costume SOFTER? It is so scratchy and stiff! I ordered it online so I didn't realize how stiff and scratchy it would be! What are they thinking when they make these costumes (other than $$$$$)! Kids can't stand to wear these kinds of clothes, but they beg for them! And then we dish out a ton of money for something they won't wear!!! I was thinking of putting the dress in the washing machine, after putting some water with fabric softener in it, and then letting it soak! I'm just afraid of messing it up before she even gets to wear it for Halloween and our cruise in November! Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

Do you think a seamstress would be able to line the inside with some type of soft/smooth fabric?

I hate those costumes, they break DD out but she insists on wearing them. Is it made in a way that you could put a slip underneath? I don't think I would try to was it, they're not very well made. It would be alot of trouble but you could possibly line it with a soft material. DD dance costume irritated her skin & broke out in a rash with it too.

I would suggest a slip, or taking it to a seamstress.

I would not try washing it yourself, you never how those costumes will wash. I'd take it to a professional cleaner and get thier opinion.

:)

Either way, I hope you have a great cruise!!

you should be able to add some felt to the inside that will make it much more wearable.
It's really not hard.....

If it's for Halloween how about long underwear to go underneath. Walmart carries sets in all different colors. Last year I got a light blue set for DD to wear under her costume. Even though it was a warm day having the soft cotton next to her skin actually kept her cooler than the scratchy polyester.

We have the exact same problem with Isabella and the princess costumes. She is so distracted and bothered by itchy or uncomfortable clothes that we buy all cotton everything and check it by rubbing it on her cheek and arm before we buy. But she HAS to have her princess dress and it makes her CRAZY. CEDmom, what a good idea. I'm going to look for soft cotton longies for her. Thanks.
