Princess Ashlyn's Birthday Trip - That's 2 For 2! September 2010 PTR (Started my TR!)

Wow, we're at 49 days today! :woohoo: Aaron is gone for a little while because it's his duty day and Ashlyn is getting ready to watch Elmo's World so I thought I'd take the opportunity to update!! I don't have a lot of pictures, just for our movie nights, but we still had fun. Here's what we've been up to...

61 Days: It was Aaron's birthday! Poor guy had to work ALL DAY LONG this day, but at least he had a fun birthday weekend. :) Oh, I did make him some sweet tea. He loves that stuff and I haven't made it in awhile.

60 Days: This was National Hot Dog Day! We didn't do anything very creative like our French Fry Day dessert, but we had chili dogs for dinner.

59 Days: We made Mickey ice cube drinks. This was one of Aaron's ideas when we were planning the calendar. I loved the idea! Anyway, I used our Mickey ice cube tray to make lemonade ice cubes. Aaron put them in his sweet tea (and he said it tasted exactly like lemon Nestea) and I, not being a fan of tea, put them in lemonade. It was fun. :goodvibes

58 Days: This was a Friday, so we went to story time and borrowed some new books!

57 Days: Movie night! We watched A Bug's Life. We were really busy this weekend (though at this moment I couldn't tell you what we did :rotfl: Ashlyn's been waking me up too early lately due to teething... my memory's shot) so we didn't do a whole lot for it, but we enjoyed the movie! For dinner we had a little picnic in the living room.

IMG_5091.jpg

Oh my gosh, the dessert. :rotfl2: I had wanted to make worms in dirt. Pudding, crumbled Oreos, and gummy worms. Well, the only gummy worms on island are the sour kind. We didn't really think that would be so good with the chocolate (I'm sure others might like it... just not our cup of tea). So the closest thing we could find were gummy bears. Not exactly in line with the movie, but it was good! :lmao:

IMG_5093.jpg

And Ashlyn wore a cute little shirt with a butterfly on it. You can't really see it in this picture, but she also got a new princess chair this day (it was supposed to be a birthday gift, but her Daddy couldn't wait!) to watch the movie in.

IMG_5088.jpg

She is so funny with this chair. She'll bring her Ariel pillow over sometimes when she wants to sit in it. She'll sit in the chair (which is super soft and plush) and put her feet up on the pillow. :rotfl: It is the funniest thing!

We were going to paint an egg carton and make it into a caterpillar, but we didn't get a chance to. I saved the carton, though, so we'll do that craft another time. :thumbsup2

56 Days: We had a game night! We hadn't gotten around to playing Disney Scene It yet so we played that as well as Disney's Dance Dance Revolution! We had so much fun. We didn't play Dance Dance Revolution very long because Ashlyn wanted to dance, too, but when she would dance on the mats with us, she would press the parts that caused the song to stop and stuff like that. :lmao: It was still fun, though.

55 Days: We are just under one year until we move back to the states (though we won't begin to put in requests for where until September) so we started a list of things we want to do here before we leave. We're not done with the list yet. We're going to keep adding to it and trying to do it all!

54 Days: Take Your Pants For A Walk Day! This was another random holiday I found online on that website I mentioned I believe last update. It is just a day to get out and take a walk!

53 Days: National Milk Chocolate Day! I wasn't sure what I was going to make for this day, but then I had a friend and her kids come over that morning because we had been planning for awhile to get together and bake cookies. So we made some Banana Oatmeal Chocolate Chunk cookies. We had so much fun chatting and baking while the kids played.

52 Days: I made sure that Ashlyn and I took some time out this morning to go play out back. She hadn't been feeling well this past week due to teething. She was starting to feel better and also started feeling cooped up (and all our playgrounds have been under construction until yesterday... let me tell you, I'm SO excited they're open again!) so we went out back and blew bubbles!

51 Days: Another Friday, so we went to story time!

At 50 days, yesterday, we had another movie night! We're having movie nights for a few weeks in a row, instead of every other week, because Aaron is going off island for school soon for a couple of weeks so we'll be taking a break from movie nights for the ones he'd miss. So we're just making sure that we fit in all the ones we had planned. :lmao: Anyway, I'll post those pics in the next post.

Seriously, you are so fun. I love how you have activities for every day like that. I've always celebrated little mostly unknown holidays like hot dog day and my friends always tell me how crazy I am. I like seeing that someone else does it too!
I really like your idea of using pudding in the dessert.

Day 50: Lilo & Stitch movie night! I loved how this night turned out. It's been one of my favorite movie nights so far. Here is our table.

IMG_5115.jpg

A friend of mine started doing movie nights, too, and makes movie tickets. She had a template that I downloaded and just put our name on it. I love them!

IMG_5117.jpg

I looked up our names in Hawaiian and printed them up.

IMG_5116.jpg

I didn't take pictures of dinner for some reason, but I wish I did! Everything turned out delicious!! We had chicken pineapple skewers, rice, Hawaiian rolls, and pineapple upside down cake (which you can see in the above picture). I had never made pineapple upside down cake before and this recipe turned out to be incredibly easy and Aaron  it! He couldn't stop talking about how good it was. :goodvibes I thought it was okay when it was warm (we each took a bite to see how it was ;) ) but I thought it was delicious room temp!

Before dinner (we watched the movie during dinner... I've always loved this movie) I put a flower in Ashlyn's hair and made her a hula skirt out of ribbon and scrap crepe paper. She loved dancing in it and Aaron got some great pictures of her twirling. :goodvibes

My girl is getting so big!

So today we are at 49 days!! Being the first of August  Ashlyn will be coloring our August calendar! I'll post a picture of that in the next update. :) Oh, and before I forget... our countdown calendar! Here we were way back at 100 days.

And here we are today!

It'll be here before we know it! :dance3:

I really like your idea of using pudding in the dessert.

That is so nice of you to say! Nope, you are definitely not alone in celebrating those little holidays. :) I think it's fun to find something to celebrate even if it's not a major holiday! Life's too short not to celebrate all the little things, right?

You've been so busy!! I love the movie days and all the little things as well. Very creative to go blow some bubbles while the playgrounds are under construction. My kids still love bubbles. :cutie:

Your chain is dwindling down so much- your trip will be here before you know it! :woohoo:

Thanks! Ashlyn loves bubbles, too. She always has though it seems like just a few months ago (I'm sure it's been longer, though) she was still just happy watching them and sometimes chasing after them. Now she loves to chase them and pop them and just has so much fun! Heck, I'm 27 and still love bubbles! :goodvibes

nice updates! My fav was the Lilo and Stich and those movie tickets were too cute! My kids at school would LOVE having thoughs haha.

i love all of your movie night updates:) your trip is getting close:) mine is too and i cannot wait!! the gummy bears in the dirt are too cute:) I love the princess chair-- that is too cute that Ashlyn will use her aerial pillow too while in her chair:) I love the little hula shirt too!!!

Lilo & Stitch is definitely my favorite movie night so far. Next week is Cars, but the week after is The Little Mermaid. I'm already trying to think of ideas for that one because it's Ashlyn's favorite and I want to make it extra special. :goodvibes Here is the link for the tickets my friend has made up so far

She's going to be adding more eventually, probably in a different post.

Thank you! :) I know, our trips are just around the corner now!! I can't wait, either! :cool1: Ashlyn is such the little princess needing a pillow for her aching feet. :rotfl2: princess:

I love that you have something for every day. Never ever would would I be so motivated, but that doesn't mean I can't envy it! Maybe I should just have you send me your list...:lmao:

Gummy bears in dirt really aren't the same, but I'm sure they tasted delicious!

I can't believe how big Ashlyn is getting! She's not such a baby anymore!

Lilo and Stitch Movie night looks really cute. I love that flower in her hair...so pretty! And the movie tickets are adorable!

That chain is getting pretty short now!

 It took me a long time to come up with 100 activities... and I did cheat a little by putting story time for every Friday. :lmao: I'm thinking next trip we'll do activities for 45 days instead. ;)

You're right, gummy bears in dirt just isn't the same, but sometimes you just have to work with what you have! :thumbsup2

Oh trust me, you don't have to tell me that Ashlyn isn't quite a baby anymore. :( She amazes me every day.

Thank you for all your kind words!

Joining in, your daughter is so adorable!!

...back to reading your PTR! I really thought your Pocahontas Nite was cute!

Awhile ago Milliepie over on the DISign board made me something to put on a shirt for Ashlyn to wear on Father's Day. It is Mickey dressed as a sailor and it says "Proud of my Daddy."

Well, Tuesday Aaron comes home and says that Thursday (today) is "Take Your Child To Work Day" all over the base. Aaron tends to forget to tell me things until the last minute. He's gotten better, though. Anyway, so after I asked my dad and a friend for their opinion, I decided to go ahead and make the shirt for this event! She can always wear it again on Father's Day, too. :) So I made it on Wednesday after he went back to work after lunch and I knew he would be at work for a few hours and he wouldn't walk in and see what I was making.

Security set up a few demonstrations and different things for the kids to check out. Here is Ashlyn in her shirt before we left.

IMG_4750.jpg

Aaron didn't know anything about it until we arrived to the event. He got a big smile on his face when he saw the shirt.

IMG_4751.jpg

This weekend is our next movie night so I will be sure to post pictures of it as soon as I can!

So precious! Was the shirt hard to do? It came out nice! Millipie made me a DISign too :)

Thank you! I liked how the Pocahontas night turned out. I was mainly just excited because I'd never seen it before!

Thanks! Nope, the shirt wasn't hard at all. I just printed it out (just had to make sure to change the size so it would fit on such a small shirt!) on iron transfer paper and ironed it on. I've done a few shirts and pillowcases all using Milliepie's DISigns. She's very talented, as are the other DISigners!

Loved the Lilo & Stitch movie night. I still need to try to plan one. Hopefully I can fit one in soon! The pic of Ashlyn doing the hula is really cute! I miss those days w/ my Gabby! (she's growing up too quick) :sad1:

Thank you! I love planning the movie nights. We have 4 more until our trip. That makes it sound SO soon, but 3 Saturdays we won't have any because Aaron will be gone for a school.

I know what you mean, there are all these little babies at story time and it just makes me realize even more how fast Ashlyn is growing. :(

Love all the fun things you are doing during your countdown!! The fingerprint painting was so cute!! I would definitely frame it too. :goodvibes

It is great seeing the countdown chain shrink as much as it has!! You mentioned putting in requests, do you know where you want to move to when you move back to the States?

Thanks! Geez, that's what I forgot at the store today... a frame! :rotfl: I better go put it on the list so I don't forget again. :)

We want to move to California so we can be close to my dad but if we don't get there we would like Florida. Hopefully we'll at least get one of those two!!

Hi everyone! I'm back for another little update. 40 DAYS LEFT!!! :cool1: I can't believe we're almost a month away! Not a whole lot going on around here right now. Oh, here is Ashlyn's beautiful artwork for our calendar.

IMG_5146.jpg

Now let's see...
48 Days: We made some Italian cream sodas. I love these things but it's hard to find really good ones. We found a pretty decent recipe that we enjoy. We hadn't made them in awhile so it was a nice treat!

47 Days: This was National Night Out that the security department/training department put together for the base (Aaron is in the training department). Aaron ended up not having to work at it so we were able to go enjoy it all together. It was pretty cool but Ashlyn had such a blast that we enjoyed it that much more. There were a few costumed characters so we were saying that little bit was good practice for Disney. :rotfl: She actually did really well and she didn't even know the characters. She was shy at first, but eventually would go up and give them high fives. Scruff (McGruff the Crime Dog's sidekick) was her favorite and she would have been happy if all we did was follow him around!

02AugustNationalNightOut6.jpg

I was joking with Aaron saying if she was that fond of Scruff, she's going to flip when she sees Mickey! :goodvibes You never know, but it still made us feel better that she probably at least won't be scared of the characters.

46 Days: Another family walk! Sometimes these just don't happen because by the time Aaron gets home he's tired or it's still too hot or the bugs are out. We're probably just going to start doing this in the mornings during the weekend before it really heats up.

45 Days: I just took this day to put a bunch of movies onto the hard drive of our netbook. Now we have a decent selection to choose from on the plane or whatnot to keep Ashlyn entertained.

44 Days: Friday... you know what that means! Story time! Hmmm.... I think my countdown activities are getting a bit boring sometimes! :lmao: I've already decided that even if we do a 100 day countdown next trip, we'll just do trivia or something and save the activities until 45 or 30 days out. :rotfl:

43 Days: Well, this was supposed to be our Cars movie night, but that was a bust. Someone on island had recently lost his wife so a bunch of families got together to bring him dinners for a couple of weeks. We signed up for this night. I made two chicken pot pies, one for him and one for us, and we were just all beat by the time we got back home from his house so this movie night will just have to wait for another time.

42 Days: Aaron had wanted to go to the library all together and have our own little family story time since he works during regular story time. I feel bad that he has to miss out on stuff like that. :( But I try to take pictures and video from time to time so he can still see parts.

41 Days: We had an all-out princess tea party! This was actually Aaron's idea when we were putting the calendar together. Ashlyn picked out a fancy dress, put on some play jewelry, a tiara, and picked out some shoes. The three of us had some tea together

IMG_5143.jpg

and then her and I danced to one of her CD's (please ignore the horrible picture of me and concentrate on the beautiful little princess in the pink dress :thumbsup2). She absolutely loves to dance! She likes to lift her leg behind her like a little ballerina. :cloud9:

40 Days: Today is National S'more's Day!!! We have everything together to make some yummy, gooey s'mores after dinner tonight. YUM!

Aaron is going to be going back to the states for 2 1/2 weeks pretty soon for training. It is going to be so weird. We haven't been apart for more than a day (not even that long) since we started dating 5 years ago. I'm sure going to miss him! :( But I'll have plenty to keep me busy. I'll be doing some stuff for Disney, making Elmo cake pops for my best friend's daughter's birthday party (her daughter is also Ashlyn's best friend... they were born on the same day, actually), and spending lots of time with that friend because they will be moving back to the states at the beginning of next month. :( So I'll be back to update probably when Aaron goes to his school! We have more Disney-related stuff coming up, so my updates should be a little more entertaining. :thumbsup2

Oh, I have a question for all of you! Our movie night coming up is The Little Mermaid. This is one of Ashlyn's favorite movies and Ariel is her favorite princess by far right now (she's actually looking through a Little Mermaid book right now, I just realized that). Anyway, I want to make it extra special for that reason. I have the meal planned but am trying to think of dessert and activities. I think I might have an idea or two for activities, but do you have any ideas for some really cool desserts?
