Princess 1/2 walkers?

I ran my first 13.2 in 3:38:37. I'm not thinking that's fast enough, especially if I'm in the back corral.

You might be able to knock that time off by adjust your fast/slow pace. I've been using an interval time plan that Jeff Galloway designed for runners in my walking training and it's really knocked minutes off my time....

I'm pulling for you!

I can not believe all the training will be put to the test in just 8 days!! I am beyond excited!! How about all of you? I have been trying to see if there are plans for a group to walk from POFQ on race morning to the corrals - and if so can two more join you? Please let me know what time you want to meet and exactly where - we are very interested in joining .... Also wondering if anyone is interested in meeting somewhere to share some pre-race excitement? We are arriving on Thursday evening - having dinner in DD that night,
friday am early = expo, Friday night pasta in the park, Sat. totally free day (suggestions?)....would really love to meet up and make some new friends!! Hope to hear from ALL of you! Lets share this amazing experience - the more the merrier!!

If you arrive early and are at the front of your corral, that will buy you a little more cushion. Remember that the sweeper clock starts when the last person crosses the start line. Just pay close attention to when you crossed the start and track your time as the mile markers report the time elapsed since the start of the race. There will also be a bit of extra adrenaline with all of the crowds and hoopla. Good luck!!

Dreamer2012-Can you believe that on 9/29/2011 at 1:42pm you started this thread with such a long time before the race and now it's days away! I can only hope that some of the information I posted starting with post 5 has helped you and others along the way.

GOOD LUCK TO YOU and ALL OTHERS. Enjoy that magical day, the friendships you make and the pain you will feel because you paid for it in more ways than one. :thumbsup2

wow John you are right...seems like a lifetime ago I started this, and at the same time just yesterday....I have greatly appreciated ALL of your expert advice. Thanks so much for taking some of us newbies who were afraid that walking the race wasn't good enough and making sure we understood it was! That we could not only attend, but actually finish the race! You have inspired me and I am sure many others...thanks for sticking with us - its been great to have a seasoned walker's advice! Will you be there with us this year? I would love to meet you!

Would enjoy meeting you but not this race. Maybe at ToT or W&D or next year's Marathon Weekend. Got to say that it was awesome reading the posts as everyone progressed.

Just one more piece of advice......Start your race at a reasonable pace even though you're going to be super pumped.

Dreamer2012: I speak just for myself but I'm sure alot of other people here agree; by starting this thread you have given hope to the many of us who are not "runners" but who enjoy walking and Disney.
I've lived in Orlando for 14 years and every year I would see all the people with their medals walking around the park, getting congratulated, and thought "man, that seems so cool, but I'm not a runner, I could never do that" and still each morning driving the kiddos to school I would see people jogging and think "if I only could do that". 1 month ago I found this thread and I decided to start the couch to 5K, and a week later I signed up for my very first 5K, and I'm already in for the ToT 10miler, training for the half marathon next year. I can walk/run/walk at a 15mm and I'm so happy. I can do this!!!
So please, everyone doing the half this coming weekend, post your reports about the race, with as many details as possible. I'll be doing the Royal Family 5K with my daughter on Sat. and she's also doing the kids 1 miler.
Above all have fun...it's Disney!!

Yulilin3 it has sincerely been my pleasure. I have gained so much from everyone who has contributed to this thread - from the veterans to the newbies - we have all gained so much. I cant wait to hear from everyone after the race!! GOOD LUCK TO ALL - HAVE FUN!

I want to talk from POR but it seems no one that is experienced is walking to the corrals from there. I REALLY don't want to take the bus 3 hours early AND walk over a mile to the corral if I can just do it from the POR.

That seems soooo long ago! Yes, thank you Dreamer for putting this out there. Your posts, and those that followed, were the inspiration I needed to register for a race I wanted to do more than I've ever wanted to do anything. With your passion, and John's great advice, and the support of so many others, I registered and put my effort in. I am SO excited that we all are about to test ourselves and prove that anything is possible when you believe!

Good luck everyone! I hope to see you somewhere along the route, at the finish, or in the park, but if not, know that I am thinking of you all and grateful for all the support along the way!

Penny

as a newbie I have a question: how do you get put into a corral? Is there something on the registration form that asks for your times? I am not sure how each participant is divided into each corral? I am sorry if this is a stupid question but my friend and I are planning on doing this next year and that is one of the questions we couldn't figure out.

thanks

No question should ever be considered stupid. When you register, the form does ask for a time. If it's below a certain time, say 2 hrs. 15 min., they want proof (which you would have if you have made runs before). I have not done this before, so I made a logical guess based on how my training was going.

From there, the organizers determine the best possible corral to put you in. The faster runners are placed up front, those who are walkers/slower placed in the back corrals. The bib numbers indicate which corral you are to go in - I'll be in Corral G.

I also wanted to say thank you to every one on this thread. For the support, mentioning the book (Chi Walking) and just for starting a "Walking" thread. I hope you all do well this weekend. See you there!

Good luck everyone in their races this weekend! I'm training for 2013, but I'll be with you in spirit for the 2012 this weekend :) You are all an inspiration to me and look forward to doing this myself in a year :thumbsup2

I've been following this thread and didn't get a chance to post before this morning, but was wishing everyone a wonderful experience! Can't wait to hear how it went for everyone! Great job!!
:cheer2::cheer2:

WOW! WHAT AN AMAZING EXPERIENCE! It was not easy, it was really hard. I NEVER stopped, I just got a pace and kept going....I ended with a 3:22:33 time finish! I never saw the balloon ppl or the sweepers, gratefully. Write more later.

WAY TO GO!!!!:cool1::cool1::cool1:

Also AliceSpark, fantastic!!!

I am truly impressed at your time, Dreamer. The results showed that the time for the last person crossing the finish line was 4:27 so you were over an hour faster. And you did it by walking! :worship::worship::worship:

Congratulations Alice and Dreamer - I'm so proud for both of you!!!! Rest up - you deserve it. But don't rest too long because we want lots of details!!!

I'll be thinking about our lovely Princess Walkers as I train for next year - woo hoo!!!
