Princess 1/2 walkers?

Welcome yulilin3! I'll be at the 5K as well, rumor has it that its a Rapunzel theme and I'm SOOO hoping it is! You'll be in great shape for the ToT. I'm still trying to decide if I would prefer to do the ToT or the W&D (and then, I need to convince my budget that I can make another trip happen).

To the questions about training plans, I am SO far from an expert but will chime in with my experience... I've never gone past 11 miles on my training walks. I know some plans have you go farther, which, like you said Alice, would then help you be stronger in those last miles of the race... since your body would have already done those miles. But I just have this mental block regarding this concept... to me, I want to accomplishment of actually finishing those 13.1 miles, of pushing further than I've pushed in a while... and I also have no interest in walking 13 or more miles unless there is a medal involved. LOL So I think you just need to go with what works best for you... some folks like to know that they can actually do the 13 or more miles ahead of time, some folks like to do the extra miles so they can improve times. My theory on the Galloway plans is that he pushes those long runs further than most plans since his other two training days are so light. Most plans you see would have you gradually increasing the number of miles you run during the week too, not just on the long run... So anyways, in my experience, there's a ton of variation in training plans, but I think as long as you get at least a couple of 10 or more mile walks in, you'll be totally ready. That's my completely unprofessional opinion. :hippie:

So, I'm happy to report that the 8 miles I planned for today were AWESOME! Our YMCA now offers access to an indoor track, and it was so much more pleasant to do the miles there instead of on the treadmill. And also, I found a great calculator that let me compute the exact mileage of the outer lane the walkers are supposed to use (I knew the inner lane was 200 meters, ~8 laps per mile)... turns out, that I only needed 7 laps in the outer lane to get a mile, so that mentally helped me... anything helps when you are looking at such a large number of laps.

I tested out my clothes for the race, all was comfy and worked well. Now I'm off to find a rhinestone iron-on transfer to hopefully "princesss" it up a bit!

Walk on, my friends!

I did my first 5K at Marathon Weekend, Yullin3 and it was sooooo fun! You're going to have a great time -- and, gosh, I wish I was going to be at Princess weekend.

I'm now setting my sites on the ToT 10miler, and I will TOTALLY check out the Studios Central page. Thanks for the great tip.

I may head down for the EE Challenge, although this is a bit sketchy. (Basically, in Dec. 10 I did some consultation work for a university in Sweden. They have made a gazillion mistakes while trying to pay me and I despair of ever seeing the money. But if I get it, and get in time, EE here I come.

Anybody know a good walking training plan for a 10 mile race. Everything I've looked at his for runners or doesn't meet my timing needs.

I would love to go the EE challenge, my DD11 is really axcited about it but we also have money issues, especially since I don't know how much the ToT 10miler will be and I want to do that one with my DH.
As for walking plan for a 10 mile race, I don;t know. But I'm doing the COuch 2 5K during the week (M-T-F) and then on Saturday or Sunday I do a long walk, that's my plan for right now. I hope someone could chime in since I'm obviously training for the 10 mile distance.
And Studios Central is full of great people, I've gotten to know alot of them thru the years, it's fun when it's a smaller group since you can become fairly close to all of them.

I just wanted to stop by and cheer everyone on. I've enjoyed reading the thread and gathering the hints. I will be at the 5k, which will be my first. I'm on wk4,day3 tomorrow of the c25k program. I'm doing ok, but am a very slow runner I am finding. I tried to up the speed on the treadmill for wk4, but couldn't keep up with the extra trime running.

I also will be either doing the 5k or the ToT in September. I just have to decide if I have what it takes to actually run 10 miles! :confused3 Does anyone know how much the tickets are for the family and friends to join you after the 10 mile run? I will be there with DD and her BFF and there is no way they will run with me, but they would love to come hang out later.

I'm so0000 jealous you're going to the Princess weekend 5k. I had a fantastic time at the marathon weekend 5K -- but I think princess weekend will be even better!

The after party tickets for EE weekend are $44 -- so I guess that give a ballpark idea of what these cost? Maybe?

If you're thinking about a 10 miler, you might want to look at the training plans on the run Disney website. They haven't put one up for the ToT race (yet?) but the half marathon ones are probably adaptable and, if you're running, you might find the Galloway run-walk method helpful.

'evening all-
so after traveling all week for work I finally made it back to my gym. I did 2 miles in 30 minutes which surprised me because I've been having knee issues the past few weeks. I know I'm gonna pay for it tomorrow but I'll be back to the gym forging on. looks like everyone is on point to make it next year...thanks again for the welcome, still having doubts but it's only February...

My DH woke me up early this morning to join him for breakfast at our favourite restaurant and to run a few errands. By the time we got back home, the sun was out and shining, blue skies and no wind. The sidewalks have been dry for over a week, so I changed into more comfortable layers, dragged my Princess Partner with me, and out we went.

We completed 4.5 miles in just over an hour. Our pace was consistent, comfortable and quick enough to stay ahead of the balloon ladies. I felt good while we were out there and I could have done more (dd was bored and wanted to go home...).

If the weather continues to co operate I'll get a couple more long walks in before we leave for WDW.

Just FYI - if you haven't been checking the runner's thread - your Waiver is available now at the RunDisney site, along with final instructions, ChEAR squad info, and the program.

Yesterday I did a 7 mile walk. Consistent pace, comfortable. I can't walk any faster, I'd have to jog. That wouldn't be such a bad thing, except it feels awful when I hit the ground. But the walking is good.

When I got home, I read Lady's message that the waivers are posted. So then I got my bib number and suddenly, it's feeling VERY real! :grouphug:

Dreamer, I am SO happy you are back. I love this thread you started! So happy to see everyone else on here too!

I hardly post, but when I do it’s been over on the Tink Half and Princess Half threads. There’s a lot of course-specific info there – which is helpful to me because I’m still paranoid about being swept.

I started training with the Galloway Walk/Run method. I generally do 40 seconds run/ 20 seconds walk. At that pace I was doing really well. Suddenly on Sunday it became apparent to me the twinge in my knee is ITBS. Might have to a little less running and more walking at the Princess 1/2 , but I’m OK with that. Just a few months ago I didn’t even own running shoes. LOL So no matter what – as long as I get that medal in under 3:30 – I’m good! My bib # is 12,154. I guess that’s because this is my first ever marathon and because I noted my estimated finish time at 3:00.

How are the costumes coming along??

Getting close to race day, ladies!!

Tinks, way to go on the 7 miles... glad it felt good!!! And so glad the weather's been cooperating for you!!

I'm SUPER psyched now that we have bib numbers... I agree, this makes it seem SO close now! I'm bib 13861, corral G (I emailed RunDisney). Anyone else close by? FlowersCroon, looks like you aren't too far off though I want to say I saw someone in the lower 13000's in corral F so you're probably one up from me.

Last week I ordered a rhinestone transfer with Minnie & a tiara & 13.1 in the middle. Can't wait for it to get here and get it onto my shirt!! My hubby is working on his shirt, its going to say "13.1 miles of happily ever after with my wife", with cartoons of he & I as prince & princess (racing, of course).

Thursday morning is a 10 miler for me, as much as I hate the long practice walks they do remind me that we are very close to race day!!!

Thank you! I am doing c25k to train for the 5k. If I sign up for the ToT (which I think I might do) I will look into Galloway. Does it differ much from c25k?

Kara sent me the same email today! She is awesome. I am officially Corral F. See you there!

I'm no expert -- *for sure*-- but I think most C25K programs use some sort of interval training (?), so they are like Galloway. I just really enjoy the encouraging little things he says and his general philosophy...

Thanks Flowerscroon! I am very excited and can hardly believe it is a mere 17 days til RACE DAY (and my birthday!) Seems like only yesterday I was trying to convince my BFF to do this and now we are almost ready to go.... I was cking out your email about corral placement and when I emailed them with bib # 7539 & 7540 hey emailed me back that we are in corral C - not that it makes much difference - but your chart puts us in D. Now bear with the NEWBI here and lets see if I have this correct in my head - the good part of being in a corral going out earlier is that he sweepers count the pace by the last person over the start line - and each corral takes approx 5 min to go - so if you are in C that would give you an additional 25 mins to complete the course? Would you still get a medal if your time was past the allotted 16 min. per mile if you had not been swept? Can you have a time over the 3.5 hours and still get the medal? Sorry for all the questions - i am just trying to understand a little better!

Dreamer,

Yes - the earlier your corral, the more time you can spend on the course. You will get a medal as long as you cross the finish line. The only question I've heard in regards to this is whether the time (if > 3:30) still counts for the Coast 2 Coast medal.

So Yay! for having more time for photo stops, potty breaks, and enjoying the race!!!! Can I be nosy and ask what you entered for your estimating finish time to get a number so low?

Thanks Megny - I think I get it - so we would actually have an additional 25 mins or so to complete the race because the actual sweep time IS done from the last corral - correct? As for the estimated finish time I just put in the time you could put down without proof - don't remember what it was, but just put in that time. Although after looking on another thread where they have posted he corral#S AND BIB#S - which hey said were sent from
Disney - we would be in D - even though they emailed me C - so I am not sure which to really believe.....:confused3

Good Morning Dreamer2012 & Megny! (Well, it's still morning for me :) )

This was the same question I posted on the Tinker Bell 1/2 Marathon. It was a recent question - so take a look at the last 2 pages.

From what they are saying - as long as you finish before the sweepers - you get a medal. Even if it's a little after 3:30. The key is - don't get swept.

Now, if this is the SECOND leg of your C2C race - then you head straight over to the C2C medal area and they cut off your wrist band and give you that medal as well.

HOWEVER - what nobody seemed to be able to answer was: what if this is the FIRST leg of your C2C race, and you finish after 3:30? When you register for the SECOND leg, will RunDisney not give you the coveted C2C wristband?
