Prince Caspian - worst "show" ever....

I love Disney. I really do. But boy was Prince Caspian a stinker. I can't believe they honestly list it as show.

SPOILER for anyone who hasn't seen it.

It's basically just standing in a room and watching an extended movie preview. Yikes.

The room is great. Very nice ambiance. And I guess if you're into that stuff, some of the movie set things at the end are nice. But gosh...

One woman in front of me commented, "it's just a big advertisement!"

I, in fact, avoid watching movie previews at all. I even cover my eyes and ears in the theater because I hate how much of a movie preview reveal.

In any event, I really thought Disney did us a disservice by wasting our time - and their money - on what appears to me to be a transparent promotional tool.

I felt that way about the first Narnia attraction, but the Caspian one was actually sort of moving. I liked it much more.

The Narnia setup they had was exactly the same thing. I big advertisement.

I really haven't felt in other Disney attractions that they are "ads".

However, this does point out a trend that I'm not sure is good.

In the "old days" we'd get interesting things like Haunted Mansion, or POTC. Then, if it was popular, Disney might get the idea to do a movie.

Now, however, it seems like there is a much greater tendency to make sure that rides are tied directly to a franchise.

I guess some newer stuff - say Kali at AK or ToT at DHS - are not tied to a franchise, but I do worry that if EVERYTHING has to be tied to Cars, or Monsters Inc, or Toy Story, that Disney will feel less and less creative and more and more commercial.

However, Caspian IMHO, was a disaster.

I haven't seen Caspian, but I actually liked Narnia. No, it wasn't RnR or ToT. I think of it as a minor attraction. That being said, as someone who has read the book numerous times to my class, and watched the video several times, I throughly enjoyed seeing some of the costumes and entering Narnia through the wardrobe.

I guess you just have to be the right age for it...my DD, who was 18 yrs. old & celebrating high school graduation in May 2007, absolutely loved the Chronicles of Narnia attraction. She thought it was awesome to see the costumes, props, etc. in person. Took at least a dozen pictures in there, and facebooked/myspaced the pics to all her fellow Narnia fanatics...who all thought it looked awesome, too. She was very disappointed this year in May when they'd closed the Chronicles but hadn't opened up the Prince Caspian display yet. She was hoping to see stuff from that movie too.

Oh, goodness-I've got to disagree on this one! Much of WDW attractions were and still are one big advertisement, due to their zillion sponsors. Delta Dream Flight-just a big ad for the airline, Kraft, GE, Smuckers, etc... I think some attractions are more discrete than others, but otherwise the whole park is advertisement-city! Pretty much every attraction in Fantasyland was created to advertise a Disney movie. Guests enjoy the movies so much that maybe we just perceive them to be celebrating or commemorating these movies, but no matter how you look at it, WDW is advertising them. & as they should-it's their theme park! As far as the Prince Caspian show goes, I've never seen it, but I'm not surprised to hear that it's just a big ad for the movie. Where better to promote it than the company's theme park! I have to say that I did like the Narnia exhibit. I'm a huge fan of the movie & I loved seeing the costumes & props.

I mean, isn't that what DHS is all about, the MOVIES. I haven't seen the Prince Caspian one yet, it wasn't open when we were there in June, but I did enjoy the first one, especially seeing the costumes. The CM that was the White Witch was incredible and if I hadn't known better I would have thought she was the real person that played in the movie. I think it is great to see Disney have a hand in a series like this.

This is one of the big reasons why I enjoy DAK as much as I do. Because they developed many NEW stories to accompany the attractions that are there. The village of Harambe with the Kilimanjaro Safari and Pangani Trail, the kingdom of Anandapur with the Maharajah Jungle Trek and Kali River Rapids, the village of Serka Zong in which inhabits Expedition Everest, the dig site at DinoLand U.S.A. which has the Boneyard as well as the attached Dinorama (Primevil Whirl & T-Spin). All of these attractions utilize NEW storylines that were developed specifically for the park. I admire Joe Rohde for his commitment to telling these new stories.

HAHA Narnia was horrid too LOL...I don't get the point of the attraction LOL.

You do realize that all those characters in the parks have come after a movie or a TV show becomes popular, right? Disney didn't introduce Giselle and then said "hey, let's make a movie based on this character!" Wouldn't the meet and greet with Beauty and the Beast just be one big advertisement to see that movie? Indiana Jones Stunt Spectacular? How about the Great Movie Ride? Every time we go in there, we say "we need to see *fill in the blank* again". Think Test Track would be there if not for General Motors? What about their cars in the post show area?

Disney World wouldn't be in existence if not for self-promotion and corporate sponsorships. Go up the road and Universal Studios is the same thing if not worse.
