Thinking about lunch at one of these. Not sure which. Would appreciate any opinions!

Thanks!

If you don't mind being harassed when you eat, then Prime Time. If you'd rather eat in peace, Sci Fi. That's pretty much what it boils down to for us, lol. We prefer Sci Fi, love the atmosphere.

Sci-Fi usually doesn't get a good rep. on here but my family (kids 9 and 13) always enjoy it. We go more for the atmosphere than food so maybe that is it. We get burgers, fries, etc. We have also been to Prime Time a couple times but we never got a waitress that was really into the theme (even though we requested one. Actually, the last time I requested I waitress that was in character, the woman at the desk taking names wrote it on our paper for our waitress and when we were seated, the waitress actually read it outloud :confused3 Food is ok too. To us Disney food is Disney food.
Anyway, my choice would be Sci-Fi. If you have kids, they will enjoy Sci-Fi much more than PT.

My DD7 really liked Prime Time but servers can be hit or miss. The waitress we had was a good waitress she just did not want to banter or play along like some of the others I saw.

I like Sci Fi better. It has the best theming. Lunch is a great time to go there. A shake and a burger are delicious and not too much $.

My DH also votes for Sci Fi! He loved the theming.

we also prefer sci-fi to prime time, esp. for lunch. we had dinner at sci-fi last month and enjoyed lunch much better basically b/c u can get really good burgers and milkshakes, the burgers werent on the dinner menu. we also enjoy the atmosphere of sci-fi. we eat at WCC and its basically like prime time and we like the food at WCC better so we only go to WCC. good luck w/ur choice!! theres nothing like taking ur kids to a drive-in where they can sit in cars and enjoy the best milkshakes ever!!

The atmosphere at both are great. The waiter we had at prime time wasn't bad at all, just friendly. The food at prime time was better than the food at sci-fi. In my opinion the food at sci-fi really is just bad. I did find the chicken at Prime time to be fantastic and the brownie thing there is great.

What time dose the Sci Fi switch to dinner menu?

We ate at 50's last July and hated it. I had told my little guy about the servers being like old fashion mommies and it was going to be so much fun eating there. We got a big brother and he did nothing. My son put his elbows on the table on purpose to get a reaction and still nothing all around us there where other servers doing a great job and my son was watching them wondering why ours did not do that.I finally walked up to another waitress and asked her nicely if she can just play act with my son just once as we where getting ready to leave and I hate having him sad. She walks up and tells mommy to finish her food and for him to get his elbows off the table it made his day. Thank goodness for that nice server. The food that was offered to us was a small selection on the back page of the menu. Our waiter told us this is what you can have on your dining plan dont know what that was about. I will never go there again but wont tell others not to go there. You have to see for yourself ,who knows you might get the ladies we saw working there tables .Now those servers where top notch from what we saw.

My DS and I are also huge fans of Sc-Fi. It's a must for us every visit for lunch. I think dinner starts at 4:00 but Disney Dining can tell you for sure. I've seen the dinner menu for Sci-Fi and there isn't anything on it that interests me. I love their burgers though. YUM! YUM! :cool1:

I would choose the Sci Fi. We ate there for the first time last November and my DD 7 LOVED it. It's pretty neat inside and kids will love it. The food was good and they were very accomodating when asked for changes. have a great Time!

we have eaten at both...we perfer 50's...the food to us was much better...our waitress was great and even caught my son using a cell phone and took it and begin fussing to his grandmother who was back home....

Sci fi was fine...but unless you are a sci-fi fan ...well it kinds of loses the magic on you....

depends on your taste....

I'm naturally very shy, except on the DIS , so I'm not a huge fan of '50s, however I do take any friends I bring to WDW to '50s. It's a great experience but so is Sci Fi. Either one you won't feel like you've missed out. If it helps, I feel kids enjoy Sci Fi more & adults enjoy '50s more.

We prefer 50's. DS (17) is not a SCI-FI fan. Food is much better at 50's. I think you have to like sci-fi to enjoy eating there. You cannot have any conversation w/your party because you are all sitting 2 by 2, facing forward and watching the video screen.

Oh. I guess I didn't realize that. So then, it sounds like this would be kind of awkward for a family of 3.?

it really is an entertainment issue not a food issue. read up on what will happen while you are there and pick the most intrigueing one for you. the younger the kids the more you will lean toward Sci-Fi Dine in Theatre. The shakes are real good too.

After reading so many different threads and posts about both these restaurants I went ahead and made ADR's for both of them for our trip in Dec. We plan to spend two days at each of the parks, so I will have two different lunches at MGM, and these two restaurants definately sounded like the best choices.
If we were only going to be there for one day, I probably would have gone with Sci-Fi. My son and I are HUGE fans of the old Sci-Fi movies (I have most of the Mystery Science Theater 3000 shows on DVD). We are also going to be eating a supper one night at the Whispering Canyon Cafe, so anything we might have missed at 50 PTC, we could have made up at WCC.
From what is sounds like, I don't think either of these two choices are bad choices. I think it really depends more on you and your family, and what you guys prefer.
As for not being able to speak much at Sci-Fi, that actually sounds like a GOOD thing to me!!! 2 kids excitedly going on and on and on all day about everything wonderful thing that they see at WDW - an hour of peace and quiet sounds just like what the doctor ordered. :cool1:

Thats me too. I found Prime Time to be the worst place to eat in all WDW, the food is average and the atmosphere annoying.
