I went to the Prime Time 50's Diner at MGM on 3-15-06. Here is my review.

The atmosphere is incredible. I'm only 26 but grew up in an older home with many 50's features left over. Everything down to the handles on the kitchen droors reminded me of the home I grew up in. The colors (lots of yellows), the oversized, wooden fork and spoon hanging on the wall was so reminding of growing up.

The food is good as well. The meat loaf is good but I have to tell you that the pot roast was incredible! However, the sizes vs. price of the bowls of noodle soup is disappointing.

The atmosphere again is so nice. 50's televisions all around the place showing clips of old 50's footage, including the grand opening of DL with video of Walt. Every room of the restaraunt is set up like a kitchen (eating in the kitchen must have been popular).

The lobby is like a 50's living room with comfortable couches and Tv's to watch , of course, showing 50's shows.

The service is very good. You will be talked to as if in the 50's. I was told to stop drinking so much water before dinner, so as not to fill up on water. I was also told to get my elbows off of the table. When my plate was cleaned, it was held up to show an example of how everyone's plate should be at the end of their dinner.

The only thing I had a problem with (and this is not the restaraunts fault) was that a family was there with some VERY loud and obnoxious children. I understand that everyone is on vacation and children are excited but, parents should have control over their children. When I grew up, I was taught not to speak when adults are talking and that you have an "inside voice" and an "outside voice" and when I was told to use one of the other, I did it. If I didn't, I knew what was coming later.

With that said, the children were so loud nobody in our room could even talk. Even the waitress could not be heard by her table when discussin the menu. She finally turned around and told the children (not their parents) directly to please quiet down. They not only didn't, they laughed at her loudly while her parents, embarassed, did NOTHING.

About 20 minutes later, the table next to us finally complained and said they could not deal with it anymore (I was even getting a headache), and the waitress, figuring the parents would not do anything, embarassed not only the parents but the children this time. She told them their voice tone was unacceptable and that other people in the room were tired of hearing them. The family then got up to finally leave (as their meal was already over) and everyone in the room applauded as they walked out.

Anyways, it's a nice place, with a nice atmosphere, when parents are controlling their children.

Wow! I have never been in any situation with kids that bad people appluaded when they left. I don't know which behavior is worse??

Once I was in Kmart where a child was completely out of control, he was about 7 yo, everyone glarred at the Mom who was in front of me. She turned around with tears saying he is autistic. She was on the end of her rope. Since then I whisper quietly to myself that THANK GOD my kids are"normal" and usually good...usually. I'm sure it is a frustrating experience but you never know whats going on in the background.

I admit, honestly that I did "not" applaud. Mainly because I felt it was a little lack of class. I was just glad they were leaving.

However, I think in many cases, people can tell if something is wrong with a child as opposed to a child being out of line.

When there are 4 children and they are playing a game of chase around the tables all in our small room (the place is divided into rooms with about 4-5 tables in each), screaming as they catch one another, crawling under tables, chances are, they are simply not disciplined well enough. I can normally tell if something is wrong, and I agree with you there.

However, I was raised to respect adults, no matter if they were my family or not. And I was told when taken out with my parents to act a certain way.

Enjoyed reading your review ~ Thanx for posting.

Thanks for posting....a great review!
We love the 50's Prime Time. The food doesn't get enough credit. Have had some really good meals there.

that's what I was thinking!

Every time I eat at the Prime Time Cafe, invariably there is a loud bunch of kids in there, and I think I have figured it out. The Prime Time is so walled off that the sound that begins echoes, reverbs, and bounces off every surface in that restaurant. So it only takes a few loud kids in order for it to be so loud as to be deafening. As much as I like Prime Time, I'd rather be at Sci-Fi Dine In, at least for the atmosphere, it's just as campy and sound tends to disappear in that big dining area.
