prices to buy groceries at BWV

I could be wrong but I thought I read there is an onsite mini grocery at BWV. I just need a few things and was wondering how unreasonably priced it is and since we have a car if it is worth it to drive to Publix?

For a few things the prices are not that unreasonable at the "Screen Door". It is located on the Boardwalk.

When I was checking prices last week at the store at BCVs it seemed to me that they were about 3 times what I would pay at my grocery store. I am packing the things I can (like pop tarts, pringles, etc.), and only buying the things I can't pack (juice, milk, etc.) The the space that the food took up in the suitcases can be used to pack any extras we buy while we are there.

You can always go rent an el cheapo car from the swan and run to the grocery store.

We actually do have a car. If the prices were reasonable at the on site grocery we were going to just go there instead. But it seems like it is probably worth driving to a grocery store.

I walked across the street to the Hess Gas Station and was able to get a bunch of stuff there and it was way cheaper than the screen door at BW!

These were about what I paid.....
12 pack of water was on sale for 2.99
12 pack soda 2.50
Beer/wine coolers were about 6.00 a six pack , 12 packs much cheaper
They had coffee, pastries, snacks, drinks, toiletries, etc.
They're open 24 hrs, but stop selling alcohol at 2am.

to get there - walk out of BW, past the valet, go straight over the white bridge, past the gate, and then across the street. (There's no crosswalk/sidewalk to Hess so be careful )

DH discovered Hess a couple of trips ago. He takes a morning walk and Hess' is on the route. He laughs that he gets excited about the "cheap" mini-mart prices!

If you are buying a lot.. Try wegoshop.com or gardengrocier.com.. That way you can get some of the cheaper prices and not have to take up some of your vacation time shopping for groceries...

Both services have some sort of delivery fee, but when making the larger purchases, it is still far cheaper than using the local resort stores.

LOL, so do I! The soda alone saved me a ton seeing that Disney charges a buck each.

How do you carry things back? How long is the walk? Do you take backpacks with you to carry things back? We are staying at BWVs in June and will probably check out going to Hess for some snack supplies.

The DVC Member website has a PDF document which you can use to order groceries and have them waiting in your room. (And it gives the prices.) Sorry, but I don't know how to post the document here.

I didn't buy much, but on 2/17/07 I purchased the following at the Screen Door at BWV:

Half gallon of 1% milk - $2.95
A one pint "chug" of Nestle Chocolate Milk - $1.99
One 8 count box of strawberry Pop tarts - $3.25

NO, we did not need the poptarts. I brought PLENTY of stuff for breakfast. But my 9 year old nephew REALLY wanted the poptarts, and gave me that look that only he can and said, "PLEEEEEASE! We ARE on VACATION, you know." What could I do?

Later in the week, on 2/23, I bought a quart of milk and it was $1.75.
