Hello! I have read the recent thread(s) in regards to currency in Norway. I'm wondering if anybody can help me in regards to the prices of things in Norway. We try to do cash as often as we can and I understand I should have a back up with the credit card that has a chip and no foreign currency charges. I also understand that once we are on the ship I can go to guest services and exchange currency if needed. We are going to try and spend two days before the cruise in Copenhagen so I was hoping to budget enough currency for the cab ride from the airport to Tivoli Gardens, meals in general (I know everyone has different ideas about meals yet I'm ok "averaging" all ideas), train tickets, cab from Tivoli Gardens area to the port and anything else I'm missing?? TYIA!!! Cheers!

Is your hotel near the airport? You can take the train from the airport to the main train station that is right across the street from Tivoli Gardens. It is only one stop, quick, cheap and easy. We fell in love with Copenhagen with a brief stay before our cruise in 2015. We loved it so much, that we stayed three days after our Iceland cruise last summer. We did find Copenhagen to be quite expensive, though. Paris, London and Barcelona have all been less expensive. We have had excellent food during both visits! :) Do not hesitate to ask more questions about this wonderful city.

Denmark and Norway are very expensive. You should expect to be spending 2000 to 5000 Kroner a day depending on the size of your family and what type of hotel you are staying in.

Prices are eye watering, especially for incidentals like ice cream, coffee etc. We were on Norway cruise last year and stayed in Malmö, Sweden beforehand but spent a long weekend in Copenhagen in 2015. Some tips to keep costs down:

1. Use public transport instead of taxis. It's reasonable and very efficient. After our cruise last year we saved £££ by getting a bus and train from port to airport instead of Disney Shuttle. Very easy to do. Copenhagen is also very walkable. Let me know if you need more details.

2. A lot of restaurants have buffets, which we didn't find too out the way value wise especially if you have your main meal at lunch. We stayed at the Tivoli Hotel which I think is used by Disney and ate in some restaurants in the Shopping Centre opposite. Lots of locals were eating there and food was good but we found soft drinks really expensive.

3. Eat lots at the hotel buffet breakfast! Nobody does breakfast better than the Scandis in my opinion. Last year in Sweden we managed to skip lunch most days and have an early dinner.

4. In Norway we planned a lot of half day activities so that we were able to return to the ship to have lunch then head back out again. No point in paying for food twice. As the ship docks very close to the towns it is easy to do this.

There is a train from the airport to the central station, right next to Tivoli, for 7 euro. It's easy to use, and leaves from the "basement" of the airport.

THANK YOU!!!! We have not booked a hotel yet. I was going to do that once I looked at the city layout and hopefully heard back from WONDERFUL people like you!!!! Did you stay by the airport on both trips and if so what hotel did you stay in? As far as quite expensive.... on average, were meals about $100/pp/day? (Trying to figure out a budget per person per day.) I will definitely be asking more questions as I continue to research and get things set! THANK YOU!!!

THANK YOU!!!! I will definitely be asking for more details as I start to reserve our hotel in Copenhagen. We originally thought to stay in Copenhagen and take a day trip to Malmo ... am I reading the map correctly that it's on the other side of the bridge from the Copenhagen airport area? Can you take public transport there? Thanks!

PERFECT!!! Are the airport hotels attached to the airport? If not, is it pretty easy to get back to the airport to catch the train? Thanks!

I would love to know all hotel ideas from anyone who has stayed in Copenhagen! THANK YOU!!! Cheers!

You can good rates at Danshostel. Also, Airbnb could be a good choice. We are cashing in Marriott points to stay at the Marriott near Tivoli.

We stayed at hotel Absalon in Copenhagen and were very pleased. We took a taxi from the airport just because there were 5 of us (including 3 young kids) and maneuvering public transportation with all of our luggage wasn't an option. I remember the taxi fare was reasonable- I don't remember the exact charge. The included breakfast buffet at our hotel was huge and had lots of filling items so we ate big breakfasts so we didn't spend as much on meals later. We bought some sort of Copenhagen card at our hote that included public transportation and admission to some of the sights we wanted to see. It ended up definitely saving us some money.

I believe we stayed at the Best Western Hotel Hebron when we were there in Jun 2015. It was really close to the train station and Tivoli. We took a cab from the airport to the hotel and then a cab to the cruise ship dock when we were done. We could easily walk to everyplace we wanted to go from the hotel. The hotel had free breakfast which was great. I don't remember the price though. Best of luck!

Hi again! Next question for everyone ... did you book your hotel direct through the hotel's website or a Tripadvisor type site? Thanks again! ALL of this information has been a TREMENDOUS help!!!

We stayed at the Scandic Palace which is right near Tivoli. It was a great location, close to the train station (less than 2 blocks), and at the end of the pedestrian shopping zone.

We also stayed at the Scandic Palace and loved it. It's definitely not a budget hotel, but you can't beat the location. Copenhagen is such a walkable city, and we loved staying within the city center. The only time we set foot in any type of wheeled transportation was a cab from the airport to the hotel and another from the hotel to the pier. Other than that we hoofed it for three days and had a wonderful time exploring. If we go back again, we might shift more to the Nyhavn area as it's just charming right on the canal, but for a first time visit the Palace was perfectly located. Copenhagen is a beautiful city and we found the locals to be very friendly and welcoming. I'd really like to go back someday.

Yes there are frequent trains from Central station in Copenhagen and the airport. Takes about half an hour. Lots of people commute from Malmo to Copenhagen and vice-versa. When we were there last summer there were strict border controls when entering Sweden. Police came onto trains to inspect passports once the train got over the bridge. We liked Malmo, great architecture, parks and canals. Less hustle and bustle than Copenhagen. I would recommend for a day trip. Also 20 minutes further on the train takes you to the university town of Lund. Very pretty place and nice for a change of pace. Our favourite place near Malmo though was Ystad ( of Wallander fame). Great little town to stroll around and then go to the beach. Hotels in Malmo are a lot cheaper than in Copenhagen. Could actually be less expensive to stay in Malmo and get the train over to Copenhagen, but of course not as convenient. We stayed in Scandic Malmo City and paid £480 for 6 nights with breakfast, which was an absolute steal! Also the room had a kitchen so we saved money by preparing some meals.
