Prices in Copenhagen

Hi again! Next question for everyone ... did you book your hotel direct through the hotel's website or a Tripadvisor type site? Thanks again! ALL of this information has been a TREMENDOUS help!!!

We booked directly with the hotel both times. We stayed at the Tivoli hotel in a family room for four. We chose the option with breakfast included because it was reasonable and they offer a very expansive breakfast. The hotel is only a few blocks from Tivoli Gardens one way and a large mall in the opposite direction. Everything you would want to see is within walking distance if you enjoy walking. We did take a taxi from the airport to the hotel because our daughter was still fairly young and not able to help much with luggage. If it were just my husband and myself we would just take the train and walk the few blocks to the hotel. We also chose to take a taxi to the port. Disney usually uses this hotel and offers transportation, but the cost was quite a bit higher for four of us. It does get crazy on the morning of the cruise getting from the hotel to the port. Even with pre-reserving a taxi, we had to wait an extra hour for ours to get to the hotel. One option would be to walk over to the train station and grab a taxi from the front of the station. THANK YOU!!!! We have not booked a hotel yet. I was going to do that once I looked at the city layout and hopefully heard back from WONDERFUL people like you!!!! Did you stay by the airport on both trips and if so what hotel did you stay in? As far as quite expensive.... on average, were meals about $100/pp/day? (Trying to figure out a budget per person per day.) I will definitely be asking more questions as I continue to research and get things set! THANK YOU!!!

That budget should work. I replied in another post that we stayed at the Tivoli Hotel on both of our visits. There is an amazing sushi restaurant in the hotel. We were intigued on our first visit, and then last summer after a week in Europe and then the 12 day cruise, sushi sounded so good and it was. We almost ate there again on our last night. There are great restaurants in Tivoli Gardens, too. We ate lunch at Groften both times. They have a huge variety of Danish open faced sandwiches and other offerings. We enjoyed dinner at the fish and chips place at the back of the park in the China area. The park has many options for snacks and treats throughout - one of them was fresh mini doughnuts with chocolate sauce. There is a yummy bakery just to the left of the entrance to Tivoli Gardens that is only accessible from outside the park. There is a really good restaurant across the canal from the Tivoli Hotel that we also enjoyed on both visits. It is called Cafe Alma. Enjoy!

We stayed at the Scandic Palace which is right near Tivoli. It was a great location, close to the train station (less than 2 blocks), and at the end of the pedestrian shopping zone.

We also stayed at the Scandic Palace and loved it. It's definitely not a budget hotel, but you can't beat the location. Copenhagen is such a walkable city, and we loved staying within the city center. The only time we set foot in any type of wheeled transportation was a cab from the airport to the hotel and another from the hotel to the pier. Other than that we hoofed it for three days and had a wonderful time exploring. If we go back again, we might shift more to the Nyhavn area as it's just charming right on the canal, but for a first time visit the Palace was perfectly located. Copenhagen is a beautiful city and we found the locals to be very friendly and welcoming. I'd really like to go back someday.

PERFECT!!!! THANKS again!! For Tivoli Gardens, do you remember if you bought a "multi-ride" ticket? I was trying to find pricing and saw an entrance price and then pricing for "multi-rides." Do you remember how that worked? Do you pay for each ride? or is it unlimited like WDW? Thanks again!

We also stayed at scandic palace across from TiVoli. We had three rooms one of which slept three people. Triples are hard to find in Europe. I believe we paid about 360 a night for the rooms with extra dollars for the third person.

TiVoli is very pricey. As I recall well over 150 dollars for an all inclusive ticket. We chose entry only and then bought individual tickets for certain rides.

The exchange rate is basically 7 DKK/ $1. So admission just to get in is around $20. We got unlimited ride bands for the kids, about $30 each. You can purchase individual tickets for rides, but they are pricey. It makes more sense to buy a band if you're going on more than a few rides.

we stayed at Copenhagen Plaza for around $300. they have a few family rooms for 4. we ate from 7-11 type store for breakfast and street vendor sausages for lunch. location right next to train station and Tivoli. highly recommend. train from cph to city is cheap, safe, easy. taxi for 4 to port was $40. front desk called the night prior and it took 10 minutes. we got food at grocery store for snacks/drinks. we are cheap. lots to see and do.

We stayed at Copenhagen Plaza post-cruise and Radisson Blu pre-cruise. Probably wouldn't choose Copenhagen Plaza again, unless it was a really great rate. We had some problems with check-in (very understaffed) and some issues with our room. It's an old building. Much preferred the Radisson, which is just up on the other side of the street. We wanted something very close to the train station so we wouldn't have to take a taxi from the airport ($$). Tivoli is very, very close to both as well. Radisson is pricier though.

My husband and two daughters (ages 11 and 9) stayed at the Charlottehaven in Copenhagen for 3 nights before taking the Northern Europe cruise in July 2016. It was difficult to find a room for a family of 4. Many of the hotels I considered would only sleep 3, and even those that were supposed to hold 4 did not appear to have enough beds for us to sleep comfortably (my daughters are very tall for their ages - if you have bigger kids, be sure to check on bed size). When we realized we could have a 2-bedroom apartment at Charlottehaven for only a little more than a tiny room with one large bed and a very small sofa bed, we decided to give Charlottehaven a try. It had glowing reviews on TripAdvisor. I booked directly through the hotel.

We loved it. It was nice being in a residential area that was an easy 5-10 minute train ride to the heart of Copenhagen. We loved having the extra space, especially the two bedrooms, which came in handy when battling jet lag. They had a restaurant but breakfast was not included in our rate. We did, however, have a nice kitchen in our apartment with plenty of grocery stores nearby if you wanted to cook in. The first and last night, we just grabbed a relatively cheap (but tasty!) pizza at a place around the block that the hotel recommended (Sam's, I think). We got drinks and ice cream at a market across the street and ate at the table on our balcony overlooking a cute courtyard (with playset for younger kids). It was also a quick and relatively inexpensive cab ride from the cruise ship terminal - maybe 10-15 minutes. The hotel staff was extremely helpful with trying to track down our luggage that British Airways lost (it arrived about 8:30 pm the night before we left on the cruise - we were lucky we'd flown in 3 days early). I'd stay there again in a heartbeat.

I also recommend checking out the Copenhagen Card. It includes admission to many of the sights you'll want to visit (including Tivoli Gardens) plus it covers all transportation.

Any idea on transportation from the port to the airport (or the other way?) We are on the EBTA and will be taking public transport from Langolinie to the airport. I was thinking spending some time in Copenhagen (our flight leaves late) and then taking central station to the airport. Is that feasible and what would the best way to get from port to central station?

You can do it both ways. We bought unlimited rides and rode our butts off!

dcl shuttle is best. taxi line is long and takes 1 hour +. shuttle tickets were $8PP. you will need to find a place to store your bags. maybe central train station. then just take train to airport.

We had two days in Copenhagen on the Northern European in 2015. Loved it, and didn't really notice the prices (although hotel rooms weren't an issue as this was an intermediate port). We took transit, or walked, and one-time even used Uber to get from/to the Magic (docked just north of the "Little Mermaid" in Langelinie). GoogleMaps offers very good guidance . . . getting a European SIM card was key.

We had lunches in the city both days, and yes, the prices were a bit higher than NY but not unreasonable.

How do you get added to a Disney shuttle once you leave the ship? My flight is later in the afternoon and I was hoping to maybe wander a bit in Copenhagen before heading to the airport. I'm even looking into packing light so I can keep my stuff with me once I leave the ship.

The train from the central station works well. The Central Station is across the street from Tivoli Gardens. It looks like the trains leave every 20 minutes and takes 12 minutes. http://www.dsb.dk/en

It will probably take longer to buy the ticket then get to the airport.
