Has anyone ever used Priceline, bid your own price, for a car rental? I am looking for convertible for 5 days in Ft Myers in June. The best rate that I could find was $38.00 a day through Dollar. The average good price recommended by Priceline is $40.00 a day. I put a bid in for $25.00 + tax per day to see what would happend. If I get it great, but if accepted the price is firm no changes or cancellations. I would be happy with that price. :)

Anyone with experince buying through Priceline?

I have used Priceline several times, for both rental cars and hotels. For our trip in 2 weeks, I got a mini-van through Alamo for $22 per day. I have never had any problems with them at all and have been very satisified with the deals we have received.

I make sure my price is much lower then what I can get on my own, cross my fingers an PRAY I don't get Alamo. So far I have actually only won once. (Convertible from Budget) If it is NOT a substantial savings the risk isn't worth it for me. I pay NO attention to the suggestions from PL. Those are there to make them money.... I think your bidding strategy sounds good.

(Due to a prior bad experience I refuse to rent from Alamo. I am not sure what I will do if I ever get it on PL)

My bid was denied. :guilty: PL asked if I wanted to change my dates and rebid with a new price or I could change my car selection but it would not let me rebid same car with the dates that I needed. I will try as a different login at home and try raising the price a little bit. If not I can get the car through dollar for $36.00 a day.

Priceline will not let you rebid the same car and dates for 7 days. I had that experience in Sept/Oct for a Nov trip. I can't remember exactly but it was a week or two before our trip that I got what I wanted through Priceline. I kept being turned down, my brother who has used Priceline many times told me to wait until right before we were going. I had a reservation that I didn't have to guarantee with a credit card, just in case I wouldn't get the Priceline deal.

But I ended up getting a mini van for less than the price of a fullsize car which was my "just in case" reservation.

Keep trying.
