So it looks like we might be priced out of our 2nd Disney cruise by the looks of things :(

we are looking to cruise again in August 2017 4 night on the dream, me, DH, DD, DS

my little ones are 4 and 2,

my little ones love all things Disney and they can't wait to go back to "nemos reef and the mickey slide" however if pricing is as outrageous as everyone is saying I don't think that's gonna happen.

Any other cruise lines that great for families?

Define "great". There are plenty of other options. I like Princess, and I've read that their kid's clubs are pretty good. I also like Holland America (although not everyone does), the kids clubs there can be smaller, but the kids' club crew members/child ratio is much smaller, more individual attention.

BUT, the shows onboard those lines are definitely not Disney standard, so I wouldn't count on being wowed by them.

Most any of the large ones (RCC, NCL, Carnival) will have something going on that caters to families. for a short cruise, maybe don't look at Carnival.

No, not for the ages of your children.

thanks!!... na.. I wasn't feeling carnival as a family cruise.. prior to children we all we did was carnival :)

mine are growing *(8/12) next year. We were all excited yesterday about the 11 day cruise as school will just be getting out. But it's double our spring break Fantasy price...literally double...for yes..4 extra days. but still about $2100 more than i wanted to pay. if only $2100 grew on trees.

Look into the new NCL ships...we did the Getaway twice last year and had a blast with our daughter.

We only discovered DCL recently and thus are "used" to the high prices haha. That said we are doing our second DCL in December 2016 and are truly considering it as our last for a long time. I know people say that and still get addicted but it will literally be just too expensive for us to do it again with 3 college educations looming. We are a family of 5 and so that makes it more expensive too.

I could see DH and I taking the grandkids someday 20 years in the future. Or go just the 2 of us for old times sake.

I also think we'll be ready to try something new in the coming years. Europe is a priority, for sure.

Since your kids are young and not in school the answer is easy...wait for the off season itineraries to come out. Projected to be in May and then again in October.

I agree with above poster. Since your kiddos are little I would sail offseason if you can. I have a freshman and 6th grader and wish I could sail during the offseason again.

Are you a teacher? Do have to cruise peak season?

I agree, go when the rates are better. I booked a 7 night cruise for September 2017. It was only $300 more than the same cruise we took in September 2015.

I was waiting for this thread....I'm finally priced out too. I've always been able to figure out something to make it work. Sometimes I could find an itinerary that was less expensive for one reason or another. We took our first family Disney cruise in 2004, and have loved all 11 DCL cruises since. But, now our kids are big (really big, like, grown ups), some are in college, one is getting married soon. Suddenly we need more rooms! It makes me really sad that it looks like we won't be booking this year. So, my words of wisdom to those of you who have little kids, do it while you can. I'm glad I have the memories.

I'm really glad we went last year- at the time it seemed like a lot, due to being from Canada and the exchange not being great, and it being a lot more than our other 2 cruising experiences (RCL Oasis and Freedom) however looking back I am sooo glad we jumped on that VGT on the Fantasy ($3580 for 2 A, 1C (10) as looking at these prices, we actually got quite a good price, I can't however :( see us booking an outright cruise again, however I will continue to keep my eye on GT rates.

No I'm. Not but my son will be starting school fall 2017
So august would be the latest we could go
Im not eligible to look at pricing until tomorrow but I always thought aug was cheaper than april -July months?

August is cheaper. I priced out a July & an August western 7-night on the Fantasy today. The July one was $7084 the August one was $5327 for the same category (2 adults/1 kid).

It's not really "I don't have the money" but a step back to realize what I'm doing here. When an 11 day cruise is nearly the same price as a new car, you have to really pause. We love Disney, but it is clear they are leaving the loyal fans behind in favor of a newer customer. The question is will they ever come back to earth or is it time to look elsewhere? They've raised prices everywhere and it is just hard to justify the expense just for the brand name.

EXACTLY

We just did Oasis of the Seas and my daughter loved the kids pools/splash area, carousel, Madagascar characters/breakfast - and even the shows were good (ice show and aqua show) but it's a big ship and there are a lot of crowds. She didn't go to the kid's club on RCI. We've also sailed NCL with her - she did enjoy the kid's club and the splash area. Shows on NCL are not age appropriate for your children. I wouldn't recommend any other cruise line - just not great for kids.

We are considering royal.. how old was your daughter when she went?
