Price of popcorn and candy at the concession stands for the theaters.

Everything at Preludes already includes a tip (service charge). Popcorn is around $2.50 including tip for the smaller bag. Last cruise we bought one small bag and it was more than enough for the three of us. I agree with PP's that you really don't snack as much. Especially if you have main seating and are going to the late show.

When we did the Dream in March there was kettle corn for like $4-5 and Rico's popcorn for $2.49. The Rico's was fine enough...I wonder if they still have it.

ETA-I remember thinking the $2.49 wasn't an outrageous price for the bag we got.

Yes, you can. We usually buy at WalMart before we cruise. Warning, you won't need as much as you think you do. With all the good "free" food, you don't snack much.

:cutie:

Boy did we learn that on our first cruise! We brought candy, cookies, peanut snacks, etc. We ate none of it -- too much great stuff onboard including ice cream and cookies. I ended up giving it all away to the crew members so we didn't have to repack it. After that, we only bring one large candy bar for a movie, and some granola bars for excursions.

On my last 2 cruises they did a thing where you could get the bigger tub for like $10 and refill it for the smaller non-reusable tub price. So you got more popcorn that way for the same price. Now I only recommend that if you get popcorn every night for the show like we did. Otherwise, it wouldn't be worth it.

On the Dream in January they were popping it fresh on the ship & sooooo much better than the old bagged stuff!

Once we sailed on HAL and found they had fresh popped popcorn every day for the movies, I was disappointed Disney hadn't done that yet. Glad to hear they have it now.

When they say "fresh popcorn", do they actually pop it on the ship now? I know in the past it was just pre-bagged popcorn. If it's freshly popped now, I am really excited!

On the Magic just two weeks ago, they were popping it fresh. One movie, DD insisted we show up for super early because we'd been shut out of an earlier showing (shocking as I had never before seen a movie more than 1/2 full on a DCL ship). The CM was just starting to set up the refreshments and told DD she had to wait to get popcorn because what he had already was left over from the movie before ours and he wanted to make sure she got freshly popped popcorn.

Yes we also bought fresh popcorn when we went to see the Golden Mickeys on the Dream a couple of weeks ago (we had second dinner so we were a little hungry). They had the Darth Vader refillable tubs, or was it an X wing? It was Star Wars related....but we didn't buy one of those. $3.50 for the popcorn.

I'm doing Movie Snacks as a FE gift, so I ordered the small cones of assorted Popalicious flavors, movie popcorn bags so they could share or mix, and movie candy, which is on sale at Target right now for $1. You could go that route if you don't want to buy.

DD wanted a bag of cheese popcorn before the "Wishes" matinee on the Fantasy. There are bags of plain popcorn & I'm not sure how much those are. The flavored popcorn (cheddar cheese, s'mores, caramel corn, rainbow, etc) is the popcorn you get in slender bags at WDW & are $4.95 on the cruise (they are $5.95 in the parks).

Hope this helps!

ETA: We got movie candy in our FE :)

Great info, thanks!

Are snacks allowed in both theaters or only the movie theater?
Snacks (popcorn, candy, drinks) are allowed in both theaters. Other "regular" type foods (hot dogs, burgers, fries, etc) may or may not be allowed in the Buena Vista Theater (our experience).

All the prices I am seeing in this thread seem very low compared to what they charge at my local Regal movie theater. They charge $6.50 for a small popcorn and another $6.50 for a small soda [or "pop" depending on where you are from ;-) ]

The difference being, you are paying a really steep admission price for the movies on the ship's, i.e. your cruise fare. Personally, I think the popcorn should be free but I have read part if the rationale for charging is to discourage people from making a mess with it.
