Price difference on Delta site

I am trying to book a flight on Delta in Dec (BOS-MCO) and the price on the Delta web site is $328 one way. I thought that was very high so I checked Orbitz, Expedia, Travelocity etc and all sites listed the price as $99. Any idea why it is so high on Delta and do you think I could get it for $99 if I called? I would rather book directly with Delta in case of changes etc.
Thanks in advance, Murphy

I've had that happen. I bet if you try to actually book it on Orbitz, etc it will come back with an error saying fare not available. The outside sites are sometimes behind on the fares. Probably other people already booked up the lower fares. You could call Delta and see what they have. There is a fee for booking over the phone but it maybe worth it.

It's the old bait and switch. I have never, ever been able to get a lower fare, that was actually available, anywhere other than the airlines official site. And believe me, I've tried, many times. Every single time, I have been told 'that are is no longer available'...and it leads me to fares that are the same, if not higher, than Delta's site.

Well, I went back to see if I could book the flight and the $99 fare was not offered on any sites now except Orbitz and of course when I went to book it the price was "no longer available." All sites were listed at $328. Ridiculous price for a one way flight to MCO. My guess is the price wil go down. The plane only had 6 seats taken when you view seats, but I know that is not always accurate. I'll book Jet Blue. Atleast I don't have to worry as much that the flight time will be changed, as it always is with Delta.
Thanks for replies, Murphy

Delta's one-way fares are ridiculous, IMO. I was recently looking for non-stop MSP-BOS for late June and the one ways were just as much or only slightly less than the RT.

The other airlines that I checked had a 1-way fare roughly equal to one half of the RT. Delta's high one ways never changed over the 6 months or so I was looking (even though there seemed to be plenty of unsold seats), so I ended up booking 2 one way tickets on two different airlines. Probably saved over $600 doing it that way.

FWIW, I do not like Orbitz - it's not uncommon for them to show you fares that aren't really available. Haven't encountered that on the other sites I use. But I usually book directly with the airline, anyway.

Thanks to all that replied. I just checked the Delta web site and the flight is back down to $99! So I booked it. Now
we play the "change the flight time game."

I usually book directly with the airline, but do use Orbitz etc. to check fares. We fly Delta every year to Hawaii and usually can use our freq. flyer miles, but this year am having trouble getting flights I like. I checked a bunch of different scenerios and a one way flight was the same price as a round trip!
I often book one way flights on different airlines to get the price and times I want. Wonder if doing this is going to flag us for the "no fly" list.:rotfl2:

I think what happens sometimes is when people are checking flights the system holds them internally even if they don't buy them. Then those cheaper seats are showing as taken, then when you check flights, you get the higher prices. When those unsold seats are released, the price goes back down.

Hope not, but maybe, LOL. I'm not too worried about it out of MSP (my home airport), but I am allowing extra time when we depart Boston. :teeth:

For the $600 price difference, I can stand a few more minutes for extra screening. :) And there are no guarantees a RT purchase will stop you from being selected for that, anyway.

Glad to hear you got the $99 price after all. Congrats! And good luck on getting a change to what you'd really like.

That's really odd. Usually they are priced separably.

That is strange, I would just go through orbitz.
