I don't know about the rest of you, but I'm angry about the number of people who use old mugs at the resort. I had seen threads on here about people using them but I never imagined the number who actually do. I saw people with the same mug I got 9 years ago at ASMu! I also seen people with the same mug I got at Blizzard Beach 7 years ago, which, incidentally, was not a refillable mug, it was a choice of getting the deposit back on my locker, towel or something or getting a free mug. After spending $48 + tax on mugs for my family, I was not impressed that Disney does absolutely nothing about those who use the old ones!

Please don't take this the wrong way, I'm just curious, but if Disney doesn't care, why are you obsessing about this on your vacation? It's Disney's game and Disney's ball. They don't care. So I don't care. As long as you feel you're doing the right thing, relax and enjoy your well deserved vacation!

I would suggest making your displeasure known directly to Disney. There are email address on the Disney website.

I agree with you but it is up to Disney to enforce their own rules.

Okay...take a deep breath here. Yes, it can be annoying. I'm with you on this one, but.....I figure that if Disney doesn't care to enforce the 'rules' then I just won't worry about it. I can say that we have stopped buying them though. We now have 2 from AllStarMusic, 1 from BWV, 3 from DxL, 3 from POR, 1 from Typhoon Lagoon, 3 from Polnyesian. I think that is more than enough. We may get one if we stay at a new resort but we get them only as a souvenier. I have seen people using all sorts of 'containers' at the drink stations. It's pretty incredible to see. But, for the most part, most people are good about it. I don't think the refillable mugs really hold all that much.

And since Disney CMs in the past have told people that the mug they just bought is good 'forever' then how can you blame them for using them on future visits? There is signage at most food courts telling you that your mug is only good for this particular visit. But, no one seems to care enough to 'police' the drink stations. So, I just get on with life. I just can't get worked up about it anymore. Just don't try poolhopping to my resorts pool and taking that last lounge chair, so that I have no place to sit!!!

Well, when I purchased 5 mugs back in 1999 at POR, the CM told me that if I purchase the mug now, I was Untitled to use the mug for my current trip and I could also bring it back and re-use it on my next trip.

The rules may have changed but, whats the big deal anyway.

Life's full of unfair advantages/disadvantages, I guess you'll just have to deal with it.

I don't agree with re-using old mugs, but last night I was talking to a friend of mine who is leaving for Disney on Tuesday. They were there 2 years ago and this is their second trip back. She was mentioning she upgraded to POR and asked if she could bring her ASMO mugs there. I told her no, those were only good at the resort she purchased them from and were only good during the length of her stay. She was SHOCKED! She told me when she purchased them the CM told her to bring them back every time they visit. That makes sense, because I wondered why she purchased them for a 2 night visit.

I wonder how many people out there are operating under the same assumption. Had she not asked, she would have brought them to POR and used them without issue. And frankly, I feel she should get to bring them back to ASMO because she was told she could.

Anyway, Disney needs a consistent policy and they need to enforce it.

You are going to be called holier than thou, you are going to be criticized for whining and letting it ruin your vacation, and you have already been accused of "obsessing" about it even though none of that is true. I agree that it is wrong. And there is nothing wrong with voicing your concern; it is not obsessing Just keep dong the right thing and don't let the poor choices of others bring you down. There is way too much to keep you uplifted. Everyone, even those that criticize you for sharing your thoughts has something that bugs them. If we weren't allowed to discuss things that bug us, or we wish we could change but can't, half the threads on this board would disappear.

Geez! Some people are sooo nervy about violating the rules. Next thing you know they'll be getting into everyone else's business.

I agree that if it really is a problem, it is Disney's problem. Not a guest's issue. (And no, I don't haul around old refillable mugs to reuse.)
If Disney REALLY cared, they would have to pay CMs to stand around and be beverage monitors. That would cost them a lot more than guests who refill up with diluted drinks. Not to mention the mad guest letters they would receive from those vowing never to return due to the monitoring.
Who would want to be the CM having to tell a guest they could not refill an overpriced mug?
They don't enforce smoking. That I consider more serious than mug refills.

I haven't read anything on this thread suggesting you couldn't discuss anything you feel like. But the bottom line is, if you have a problem with Disney's policies, then take out your righteous wrath on them, not on us. We don't make or enforce Disney policies.

Were you held down, tied up and forced to read this thread??

This is what I do, I take back my refillable mugs but I also buy NEW ONES so I can get two drinks at the same time - saves time walking back and forth to the Food Court. I would NEVER EVER use an old mug if I haven't purchased a new one also. :flower:

Hey, just telling you what I think. If you don't agree, then you don't agree. I don't spend a microsecond of my vacation trying to be a Disney rule monitor. If that's fun for you, then by all means, go for it!

I'll tell you one thing. I've bought new ones every time. I now have 10 Grand Floridian mugs. 5 yellow Alice design and 5 red Capt. Hook design. If Disney doesn't want people to reuse them maybe they should start making a different design every year. I'm getting sick of buying the same ones year after year. I also wonder if people who think other people are cheating know the truth. I buy one for all five of us, but the last two years youngest ds still used a sippy cup. I didn't feel like carrying his cup with us since I just used it to fill up his sippy cup, so when we were going to th pool I woud stop and fill up our cups, but I would fill mine up with his drink and pour it into his sippy cup and then refill the GF cup with my own drink. It probably looked like I was trying to get something for nothing but I really had purchased him his own cup. It was sitting upstairs in our room.

I was kind of horrified to see a woman refill her styrofoam cup at the Roaring Forks beverage dispenser, but I think a lot of people assume that if there's access to the drinks, you can help yourself to free refills, (like at McDonald's or Burger King.) Those of us who spend any time here on these boards are much more aware of what the proper "Mug Etiquette" involves. I was further horrified when my DH put our four refillable mugs in the pile of items we were donating to charity! I let them go anyway, since I've also been instructed never to reuse those mugs from one visit to the next! I hope someone at the Goodwill store was pleasantly surprised to find four POR refillable mugs! ;)

When I last visited Disney back in 2002. I purchased the refillable mugs for my family (5 of us) and was told that they are good for any of the resorts and that I can bring them back on return trips. I purchased them at the ASMR. Can anyone confirm if they are good for return trips or is this just one of those rumors???

I also agreed with you!!! We just go to have fun not to watch what others do!

Folks - Please take a deep breath before posting - then read what you write - and if it is not appropriate learn to use the back button.

There have been enough shots taken on this thread that it could just be closed - but we hate closing threads - so everyone - just be nice when you post!

Well...how do you know that isn't the case? I always thought it was... I occasionally buy refillable mugs but if I'm just buying a beverage with lunch then I keep refilling that beverage until lunch is over. I always thought the purpose of the refillable mug was to be able to do refills on mulitple dining occasions.

But some were really clever shots.
