Pressed Pennies?

That was one of our kids favorite things to do on our recent trip. They collected these things at every stop we made and just about every major city and tourist destination has them. You can also get the coin holders at most places and it even has a website that lists all the machines so you can track them down that way also. We spent a lot of time in the Penny Arcade and liked the fact that it was opened until 1am so we could make this one of the last stops of the day. Save the best for last:confused3

We used the mini m&m holders on our trip to WDW. Just be careful though...I had them in my carryon and it took such a long time to get through security. Security couldn't figure out what all the concentrated amount of metal was on the scanner. It was pretty funny when they finally fished them out of my bag and I saw what was causing the hold up.:rotfl:

The display books at DLR are between $5 and $10. I bought one for DS last December but don't recall the price.

OP, if you are there Halloween time (my brain is too fried to do the ticker math), pop into La Bat en Rouge gift shop in New Orleans Square. There's a seasonal pressed-quarter machine ($1 to press plus the smooshed quarter) that has Nightmare Before Christmas quarters. It looks like a coffin.

Just wanted to add that the plastic Mentos containers fit the pressed pennies just about perfect. Also if you go over to the DISigns area of the forums, several of the DISigners will personalize the wrappers for both kind of tubes. (for free) :)

Also, to shine up your old pennies, soak them in a glass of coke....it works beautifully!!

I used to shine my pennies up with Taco Bell hot sauce. But that was 20 years ago so I am not sure if the stuff they use now is the same. My kids & I tried it with Tapatio hot sauce here at home & it did not work. Dunno what so special about Taco Bell sauce :confused3

And don't forget the theming. Splash mountain is my favorite! The coin screams as it goes downt he fall! Swear its true! OK, maybe it's a recording, but still fun!

Also one of my funniest guest encounters. My 7 year old and I waited for a group of 5 or 6 kids to make their coins and move on before we finally got our turn. We were just putting our coins in when the parent of the group stepped up and frantically said "excuse me" but could I have these two kids go first. We are with other people who don't want to wait. This, after my one son had waited patiently for her 5 or 6 kids already. I have to say, I was not feeling the magic, and I simply told her "nope, they would have to wait or go without, their choice." I was really mad at myself because I actually felt guilty!

We enjoy the pennies and add to our collection every year. We have a disigned m&m tube and have been stopped by the airport scanners everytime. The tube looks like a stick of dynamite in the machine! They have suggested that I remember to take it out of the bag and send it seperately, but I never do!

They have a pressed quarters Princess (choice of 3) in the store directly south of "Small World" which my kids thought were cool.....then they lost them somewhere during the rest of our trip:confused3 Need a holder for the big ones too!!

I remember using vinegar and salt to shine penny's back in the day. It worked pretty well but that was over 20 years ago as a school project. :)

Does anyone know how much the collector books cost?

We plan on having our DD that is 7 do this during our trip in October...... She is excited about getting them and putting them into the books.
