Presidential Election

Who else can't wait for the election to be over so people here can start to be CIVIL to one another?

I am disgusted daily by the rhetoric that goes on here (I am speaking mainly of the political threads). Granted, some people are decent in their responses, but there are a few people here (no names.....but you know who you are) who are out and out nasty consistently (when it comes to responding to those who are not for YOUR candidate). I wish those people would simply grow up!!!!

I enjoy civil political discussions and intelligent political debate. I don't see those too often on the CB.

I would agree, dumboiu, and I rarely look at a thread if I know it is politically oriented. And when I do, I usually ask myself, 'why did I do that'?

It depends upon whether the Democrats try to steal the election again. Kerry is already dispersing lawyers to Fla. and other close call states.

I confess, I'm one of "them."
I am limiting my DIS time to 10 minutes per day now though.
I had to force myself to do it when the rhetoric reached a level
where it looked like we were electing a class president rather
than the President of the United States. Mine included.

I hate how politics can bring people to be so nasty to one another. I would never want to express my opinion on one of those threads because no matter what I said I would get flamed! And I've seen people call anyone who was voting for a particular candidate "dumb, stupid, etc." So I've been called stupid and I didn't even say anything on those threads!

There have been quite a few people that I've thought seemed nice. Then I see some of the words they chose to get their point across! Ay ya ya! The put downs, the level of mean spiritedness. Whew! I can understand a bad day, but for more than a few it's consistantly ugly. Both sides.

It's a major turn off.

I agree too. I am going to try my best to avoid opening these threads up from now on. And definately try not to post anything. It's a no-win situation for the most part. It's not as if anyone is going to change anyone else's mind. It's the same over and over--each thread seems to get more nasty than the last.

Typically, I avoid the political discussions here at all costs.

As a staunch conservative, I detest how far to the left Bush has gone (read.... allowing "illegal" aliens to become "legal") and feel that the only good that can come of his re-election is that Kerry would go home with his tail between his legs.

I think that the only positive that could possibly come of a Kerry presidency would be no news for several years on the inevitable "Hillary for President" campaign.

Oh, how I wish there were a "viable" conservative 3rd party candidate.

I agree as well. A month or two ago (or more) I liked to read them and post my thoughts (nicely!). But some people just got WAY too nasty and over the top. Couldn't stand it anymore. I have more important things to think about these days than to try and post my thoughts to people who can be so incredibly rude. Although I am sure that if (when ) Bush wins, there will be some NASTY posts about that. We shall see.

I try to argue my points with logic - I make no pretense that I am presenting anything except my 'opinion' - backed up by my logical arguement.

I do recognize stupidity when I see it however, and have often identified it as such - IN MY OPINION.

To me - those who do nothing but offer smear comments that they copy from some hate-Bush website are not being intellectually honest and earn epithets such as "stupid."

And the same goes for those who merely copy stuff from some right wing website. However, in those cases there is usually such a long list of smears from the LW posters that it would be redundant for me to offer my opinon on those. It seems the LWers are only offended when someone points out that they have a big mote in their own eye.

Now, if those posters just said = "hey - here is what I copied off the latest Moveon.org website" then that would not be 'stupid.'

BUT - when they copy that silliness and then post it as though THEY just thought of it - then THAT is what I refer to as "stupid."

I am relatively restrained in my use of the word and I think I am justified - according to my rules - to use it in egregious cases of stupidity.
