Not get completely off track, but Born In The USA was about as far from a patriotic song as you could get.

Now, as to the topic, the greatest President of my lifetime (and that goes back to Eisenhower). And one of the Top Ten best Presidents of all time. A sad day, indeed.

ITA. There were two defining Presidencies of this century, that of FDR and that of President Ronald Reagan. His presidency is marked by what ISN'T HERE; The Soviet Union and the Berlin Wall, just to name two.

I'm reminded of a couple of things. He was history's oldest living ex-President.

Some of my favorite quotes of this. This one, considering we are upon the anniversary of D-Day:

We will always remember. We will always be proud. We will always be prepared, so we may always be free. Normandy, France, June 6, 1984

It is not my intention to do away with government. It is rather to make it work — work with us, not over us; stand by our side, not ride on our back. Government can and must provide opportunity, not smother it; foster productivity, not stifle it. First Inaugural Address, January 20, 1981

What a sad day. :( My thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends.

I'm very pleased that as this sad news unfolded this morning, he was referred to as "President Reagan", with the respect the office commands. I've been disturbed by the media referring to presidents, in office past and present, as "Mr. xxx". So disrespectful.

Rest in Peace, your long goodbye has ended.
Your new journey in the Lord has begun.

He was a good man and a good president. God bless him on his next journey, and God bless the loving family and greatful country he left behind.

Nancy's dedication to her husband is an inspiration for all married couples. I hope she finds peace now that he is gone, but it must be so difficult losing someone that you have devoted your life to.

I am very saddened by President Reagan's passing. He was a good man and a good president. He was the first president I ever voted for and I have always been pleased that this is so.

Goodbye Mr. President
and
God Bless America.

He was my favorite President.

Rest in Peace. :sad1:

He was my favorite...my prayers are with him and his family.

Wholeheartedly agree. Drives me crazy when they refer to a former president as Mr... very disrespectful.

Pres. Reagan was the greatest president of the 20th Century, and one of the greatest in history.

God Bless the Reagan family and thank you for your service to our great country. You made the world a better place.

Like many others have said, President Reagan was the first President I voted for. I still remember the sense of expectation and relief our nation felt on the day of Reagan's inauguration following the Carter era and the Iran hostage situation.

God Bless you Mr. President.:sad1:

I was very sad to hear this, but it is comforting that he is no longer suffering. His family suffered a great deal with his illness, for a very long time.

He was a great president his passing is a huge loss. I continue to keep his family in my thoughts and prayers.:( :( :(

dmadman, you didn't finish quoting my posting. I admitted that Born In The USA was not a patriotic song, but it was taken that way by most of the media and even President Reagan tried to co-op the song in one of his speeches.

President Reagan was a great man, and he will be missed. My heart breaks for his family, but I know they take comfort in knowing they will see him again.

True, which unfortunately, served as fodder for those that thought Reagan a dunce.

<font color=navy>I'm glad to hear that he's no longer suffering. Prayers to Miss Nancy and the rest of the family.

So long Gipper....................... er, I mean Mr. President.:(

Add me to the list of people that he was the first President that I could/did vote for. He came to UA while I was there and I remember getting up and waiting in line at 5 in the morning (which was something for a college student to do) but I wasn't disappointed. He was great. In watching the news this afternoon and watching the media people reflect on their time with the President I had forgotten just how funny he really was. He was truely a great American and will be missed. May Nancy have some comfort from all the kind words espressed worldwide about her wonderful "Ronnie"

He may have tended to view the world through rose-colored glasses, but he believed in his convictions, and was determined to defeat Communism.

He certainly played a major role in the fall of many Communist regimes in Eastern Europe, as well as the fall of the Soviet Union.

He had humor and personality, and handled his final struggle with Alzheimer's Disease with grace and courage.

Uncomplicated in his political beliefs, he was an extremely complicated in his personal life. His somewhat turbulent relationships with his children, in particular his daughter Patti Davis are well documented. However, it seems that in his later years, they managed to develop a bond and a closeness that eluded them earlier. And his love for his wife Nancy, and her for him, is, of course, legendary.

God Speed, Mr. President.:(
