Present for an 8 year old boy

I must have an odd 8 year old. I tried to show him the Bakugan and he didn't know what they were. He's never been into Star Wars, or fighting type toys. He however loves his cars and trucks, basically role playing, not so much with the smash 'em and crash 'em. He's also big into any sports stuff, baseball, football, etc. I've tried to get him into legos, he likes it, but not an extreme love for them.

All in all he's a tough kid to buy for.

Ds10 has never been into transformers or Star Wars. He does like legos, and is very into sports. He used to love his cars and trucks, but doesn't play with them anymore (although if I take them out for ds5, he'll still play).

Phew, glad to hear he's semi normal;) . I guess my point was that action figures and the like aren't every 8 year olds dream.

He's getting better at wanting to read. I think his problem in general is just sitting still. He'd much rather be out playing in the snow and wrestling in the winter, and playing football or baseball in the rest of the year.

His grandpa has been hauling corn the last couple of falls so he's been into the whole farm scene, trucks and grain bins, so that's what he's requested from Santa. I'm sure he'll be ecstatic.

He's not the only oddball. DS turned 10 on Monday so he's a bit older. But, he doesn't care in the least for Star Wars or Bakugan, doesn't want a gaming system and can't stand sports stuff.
He does really like legos and loves music (this years BIG gift was an iPOD nano--most expensive thing we have ever bougth him, we gave it to him for his birthday so he could get itunes gift cards for his birthday). It is easy for us to buy for him beacuse we know him so well (he is getting a book about Wicked the musical for one of his gifts and it will likely be the big hit:rotfl2: ) but someone who didn't know him and tried to guess based on his age and gender would almost certainly miss the mark (though he would be gracious about it;) )

The OP has probably already gone shopping, but I'll chime in also with "Legos" as a good idea. For books, DS7 has really been enjoying the "Secret Agent Jack Stalwart" series by Elizabeth Singer Hunt. Klutz also makes a couple Lego books that are have instructions for different things to make.... something other than the standard prepackaged Lego kit.
