hello everyone. i'm a nys liscensed optician. transtions lenses are not meant to replace a true sunglass. they are wonderful for convienience purposes. they will not get very dark in the car, the windshiel blocks out uv which is how the transitons change. they usuall take a few minutes to lighten up when going indoors. you won't even see it happening. the best option for a sunglass lenses is polarized lenses. they will keep colors true and natural and will eliminate glare. it is the best way to go. they come in brown or grey. its a little more costly but well worth it. insurance usually won't pick this up, but will give some kind of allowance,it depends on your plan. hope this helped!
I saw the magnetic ones at Wal-Mart that a previous poster was talking about they look really nice & dark. They just attach so easily to your regular glasses.
Last year once I got my new prescription glasses, I took my old frames & have prescription sunglass lenses put it to them. I think it cost me about $70 at Wal-Mart!
Something to think about!
Here is a link to a great buy on glasses. http://www.39dollarglasses.com/10000.html?mv_pc=5
I just got a pair of prescription sunglasses (Milan) from them and they are great. You do need a recent precription from your doctor as they will call (his/her office) to verify. This same pair of glasses would of been close to $300 from my doctor. I just followed their easy directions and placed my order online. They arrived in less than a week.
I have been buying my son's glasses at Costco, and they are way cheaper than $350!! Is that for just the sunglasses? That sounds outrageous to me.
My son has a big head and wears adult size, and I usually get them for about $69.00 with the lenses (regular not sunglasses). They have a huge selection, and many designer names (more than $69 of course!!). They also take my insurance.
I also understand that Walmart has very good prices. Even if they don't take your insurance it still may be cheaper to use Walmart or Costco.
My DD (age 8) wears her glasses constantly and we had searched high and low for the clip on kind that would fit her Disney Cinderella frames. We finally found a pair at a sunglass outlet in Hilton Head. They have a little spring on each corner that slips over her regular frames. It was hard to find ones small enough for a child size frame, but these are great. They were $11.99 and I went ahead bought two pair (plannind ahead) and she loves them. She's playing softball so they are so handy when she's in the field. I was more than willing to buy her Rx sunglasses, but she didn't think she would want the hassle of switching them and keeping up with two pair (smart kid - huh ). These are working great. Good luck.
