PREscription or PERscription...which do you say? part two post 28

I've mentioned it in threads too and NO one answers! I think everyone but us must say it! My kids think it is bizarre too as I asked them about it. It is really not that difficult to type out or say "in"!

Maybe we missed a song or movie along the way that would explain the popularity of this saying??

Maybe that is what it is ..some sort of new slang?? Either way I hate to read it written that way! Whew.......I am NOT alone anymore!!!!!

I never really thought about it, but now that I have I realize I pronounce it like it was spelled "pra-scription". (I also know it's spelled prescription). Must be a Michigan thing?

Nope, I'm from MI, too, and I say PREscription. Though, when I worked in the circulation department for the newspaper I very often had people call who wanted to cancel their PERscription to the paper. :confused3

Speaking as a pharmacist, I will have to say that it is most often pronounced perscription. If you are in the medical field it is generally referred to as a script for short. Quite often it is called a subscription. As funny as this is to me, the one thing that is more often mispronounced is the title "pharmacist". I've heard everything. Pharmist is the most common, and some just give up and say druggist. The funniest by far are the drug names. People can make a relatively simple word sound so funny.

OK...for those of you that say and write PERscription...why do you chose to say/write it this way? Not trying to make fun of it but I am wondering why anyone would purposely say/write it wrong.??!!??

That's about how I say it too... kind of prah-scription-ish ;) I know it is prescription and will think that to myself if writing or typing out but in every day conversation the "E" is a lot less empahsized

I am a stickler so I say pre. Sometimes I say "skrip" but I don't think they know I am saying it with a "k".;)
