I received a card for $30.00 as a gift. I don't have a lot of experience using them. I figured I would put it in my disney vacation stash and use it towards a meal at Disney. anyone have any experience with this? How do I make my transition go smoothly?

My advice is to "cash" it out ahead of time. Pre-paid cards can be tricky because you have to make sure the server only tries to run it for $30, not the whole amount or it will reject it.

The way I "cash" them out is use it toward my groceries at the Kroger and then when I pay the difference with my debit card, I get cash back for the amount of the Visa card and then I stash that away in my vacation fund.

If you try to use it at a restaurant where there’s a line for the tip on the receipt, they’ll attempt to authorize the charge for 20% more than the bill. That could cause the charge to be declined.

I second the pp’s recomendatuon to “cash it out” ahead of time when buying groceries, just to make your life easier! :) I have a love/hate relationship with Prepaid gift cards. So nice they can be used anywhere but sometimes they can be a pain!

Have fun in your trip!

I have a couple things I do.

I buy a Disney GC along with my groceries and count it as free or discounted (for example, I get a $45 one as a rebate when I buy my contacts, so I say I got a $50gc for $5)

We use YNAB, so I'd pay for part of my groceries with that card, then go in YNAB and move $30 to my vacation fund. I do this with grocery gc too, because my work hands them out as incentives.

I've also had luck just taking my prepaid card through self check out and buying a Disney gc for that amount at my Kroger.

I think that is what I will do is buy a Disney gift card with my groceries next time I go and use the card. Thanks for the responses
