w00t! Today is March 1..which means I have only 30 days left before James arrives! I cannot WAIT!

DFIL is coming over this weekend while we are next door at the neighbor's having my 2nd shower to put up the border and custom mouldings he's built for the nursery. He's also going to bring the furniture which JUST arrived at his house for DH and I to set up at our leisure.

I go back to the OB tomorrow for my checkup to see how far dilated/effaced I am.

I never thought I'd be so glad for this to be over, tbh. I love being pregnant..well..most of the time. The only time I hate it is when I have a really bad backache from standing on my feet at work all day or at night when I'm trying to sleep and it feels like Sammy Sosa and Mark McGwire have been using my pelvic bone for batting practice. Ow!:earseek:

Also...I'm going to ask the doc tomorrow..but how will I know when my water breaks? This is my first baby, so I don't know jack about what actually happens in labor (though I've seen plenty of women go through it on "A Baby Story" on TLC).

1st Off Congrats!!!

2nd- you'll know when your water breaks, believe me!! They had to break mine at the hospital and you won't miss that nice warm gush of fluids flowing from your loins (sorry guys)!!!

It's all worth it in the end!!!! Good Luck!

My biggest fear at the moment is that I'll be at work when it happens and won't even notice it. Scary and stupid sounding I know but again...I've never been through this before. My sister was lucky...she was at the OB's getting her weekly checkup when hers broke on the exam table!

Well, when my water broke it was just a leaking feeling. No big gushes for me. I had just done my nightly trip to the bathroom and as I was crawling back into bed the felt leaking. At first I thought maybe I didn't go to the bathroom enough ;) . You will know if that happens. You can go into labor with out your water breaking. :)

Good Luck! :)

good luck to you!

I am 33 weeks now and hoping and praying these 2 will stay in for a few more weeks. My bp is creeping up though. I've been on bedrest for PIH for 7 weeks now and am thinking that my dr. may want to put me in the hospital for the rest of the pregnancy. We shall see tomorrow! I hate the idea, but since the numbers are starting to creep up a bit I am beginning to think it may be for the best. Again, time will tell. I'm going to talk about steroids tomorrow, too.

Looks like a repeat section for me, whenever they arrive. Both are still breach and don't show any signs of changing. I'm coming to terms with that and just focusing on keeping them and me healthy.

As for water breaking, with my first I was induced and they broke it in the hospital. Oh my. Didn't know that much liquid could exist in me! LOL!

Yeah I definitely had contractions for almost a day before they finally broke it at around 1:30pm and she wasn't born for another 5 hours.

You'll know, don't fear it that will make it worse.

My water broke before I had any other signs. I was sitting on the toilet at the time and I heard a light tinkle. I thought that wasn't me. I called my doctor and he asked if there was a slight sweet odor. I also had some light spotting. He made me come in and after a few hours he induced labor. 24 hours in labor and pushed 2 hours. He was 3 weeks early.

With my second, my water broke also in the bathroom at home. I was gestational diabetic with DD and I had more amniotic fluid than normal. Dr. induced labor again. 12 hours in labor and pushed 1 hour. She was 3 days early.

With the 3rd, I started mild cramping in the morning. I took my son to school, took daughter to preschool, and went to the grocery store. I came home and finished up the laundry and kept husband on stand by at work. By 11:00 the pains were more substantial and I told him to come home and get me. I didn't have to be induced this time. My son came around 7:45 that night. 12 hours in labor and only pushed ONCE! He was 2 weeks early.

Sorry if this was more information that you wanted. I always feel better when I know "about what to expect" in new situations.

Congratulations to all of you new mothers out there!

I'm 34 wks now....only 5.5 wks to go, yay! With DD, the dr. kept asking me if I was having contractions, and I said I didn't know. Then, one Sat 1:30am, I woke up in pain....I then knew what the contractions were, and my water broke shortly after. Everything actually moved kindof quickly, and I'm hoping the same will happen this time. DD was born 1 day early....this one will most likely be similar the way things are going. Good luck!

mtemm--good luck. Here's a little :wizard: PD hoping that they decide to turn round right and you don't have to have a repeat section. Those are the WORST from what I hear. Ugh.

And every time I think about my water breaking, I keep seeing that scene from Coneheads in my mind where Mama Conehead's water breaks and there is a 3 ft deep puddle around her ankles. I know there can't be THAT much fluid coming out of me, but it's still a disturbing thought.*shudder*

"you don't have to have a repeat section. Those are the WORST from what I hear. Ugh"

All I can say is after 26 hours of labor, 6 hours of pushing the C-section was the best thing that ever happened for me!!!!!

I don't know....my repeat section wasn't that bad since I knew what to expect (the only bad part was that they had problems with the epidural.)

Thanks for being so graphic, Chrissy! Now I know what I missed. LOL! :earseek:

I had a scheduled c-section...no water breaking, no labor. :teeth: And it was a BREEZE! I loved it! Checked into the ER at 6 a.m., DS was here at 8:12 a.m. My only complaint was the headache afterwards. My OB and the nurses said that was the anesthesiologist's fault because he let me up too soon. I'd have a c-section again in a hearbeat! :teeth: I had the baby on Monday, went home Weds. afternoon. Even the nurses came in from time to time saying...Don't you need a "pain pill?" LOL! NO! :smooth:

I am only 10 weeks pregnant with my 3rd. But dont be frightened about not knowing when your water breaks. If that is the first sign...you will know. If it is not your first sign..there are plenty of others...contractions, bloody spotting..ect. You will know when it is time and you might have a few false labor symptoms...but just be glad that you are about to have the most beautiful little boy ever.

I'm here! About 21.5 weeks I am! I had my u/s 2 weeks ago - all looks good. No idea what we're having - we opted to not find out. Baby is measuring a little over a week bigger. So, I am telling everyone I am 5.5 months :)

No real complaints here - killer heartburn and sore back, but for all the pure hell I had to go through to get this little miracle, every ache is wonderful in my eyes :)

Hope you are all doing well!!!!!

28 weeks today! YAY 3rd trimester.

I am so readyt o have this baby. I haven't gained that much weight but I feel like a house. I"m sick of feeling sick every morning. :( I want my baby!! LOL

Well, I don't know what else I can add, but here's some experience from a 3-time veteran. All 3 were born in different hospitals and I had different doctors with each, so I got a LOT of variety in my experience.:D

My water broke with my first one while I was sitting on the couch. I told DH it was time to go, and seeing the panicked look on my face he said, "Don't worry - they'll send us home because he's 5 days early.":earseek: Guess we know who didn't pay attention in childbirth class. Labor lasted just under 4 hours and I only pushed 3 times.

The funniest thing was that I didn't know what to do on the way to the hospital - didn't want to arrive looking like I'd taken a swim before going. Ah-ha, I thought, I've got it! Grabbed a panty liner and put it in place. "There," I thought, "that should do it!". Ummm... no, not quite. (Any mom out there who's done this before is laughing her butt off.) The nurse looked at it when I got to the hospital and said, "You're kidding, right?" :rotfl:

With the other two I had scheduled inductions and they broke my water in the hospital. Similar stories - 3 hour labors, push a couple of times and here's baby!

By the way, if you haven't read "The Girlfriends Guide to Pregnancy" by Vicki Iovine yet, then I highly recommend picking up a copy. It's very entertaining! :teeth:

So all you first-time mom's out there, sit back and enjoy the ride! We'll talk again in a couple of months after the little tyke gets here and you're asking stuff like, "Is it supposed to look like THAT?!?!?!" :o

I don't know if anyone else mentioned this because I didn't read through all the responses but...not all women have their water break spontaneously. Mine broke spontaneously with both my kids but I know plenty of moms who had to have theirs broken by the doc at the hospital. So, don't count on water breaking being the only sign of labor. You probably already know all of this but figured I would chime in for the heck of it. ;)

I post a lot more on the trip boards, but wanted to chime in here too.
I'm expecting baby #4 at the end of May. (I'm almost 28 weeks) It is most likely a little girl (wasn't too cooperative for the u/s) and will hopefully be my last. My other kids are 6 (girl), almost 4 (boy), and 2 (girl). I had a bad fall last week that didn't hurt her any, but really did a number on my back and neck. Between those aches and pains and the constant heartburn, I'm ready for this whole pregnancy thing to be over. To chime in about your water breaking-mine never has on its own. It's always been done by my OB on the hospital.

I'm about 16 weeks along with my second. I feel really good now, although I've gotten big so much faster than last time. I had to start wearing maternity clothes around 12 weeks this time.

Only about 10% of labors start with the water breaking, so there's a big chance that won't happen to you. If it doesn't break before labor starts, it will break while you're in labor, as the baby is born, or the doctor will break it for you.

My first was born at 35 weeks, and my labor did start with my water breaking. I probably had an infection in my amniotic fluid, which is why my water broke. (I had eaten a really high protein diet that's supposed to keep your water from breaking early.) There's no way I could have missed it. I was bent over doing something when I felt the pop, and I just knew it had broken. I stood up, and the flood gates opened. And they didn't stop. If your water breaks, it will continue to leak (or gush) up until you deliver because it's constantly replenished. Duchie's story made me laugh because I couldn't stay dry to save my life. I even put on a regular pad, not a panty liner, and within 5 minutes all the fluid soaked though the adhesive and it just fell off. I did have to walk into the hospital with soaking wet pants, but it's not like anyone couldn't tell what had happened since I had a watermelon in my tummy.
