Just curious when all of you had your first OB appt. with your Dr. after you found out you were PG. This time, it'll be around 9 weeks. I think with my son it was around 8. When I had my MC last fall, I think I went in early at around 6.5 weeks because I was bleeding and then I MC'd at 7.5 weeks.

I'm spotting a little now and don't know how i'll make it until the 29th for my ultrasound! My first PG was so uneventful now I worry from any little twinge or spot.

If you call the office and tell them you are spotting, I'm sure they will have you come in right away.

(((HUGS))) wishing you an uneventful, wonderful pregnancy!

with my first my dh made me go and get a bloodtest right away...wouldn't believe the home test. I think my first real appt was around 9 or 10 weeks? with my second I wasn't in a rush to get to the dr. and went for the first time around my 12th or so week. I never had u/s at early appts...first with son was at 18 weeks, second pregnancy was at 15w6d...found out we were having twins then.

I was blessed with very easy early pregnancies, but it was the end of both that didn't go very well.

Hi there, I'm sorry about the spotting, I know how scary that is! With my first two pregnancies, I had my first OB appt. at about 8 weeks along, the standard first visit time at my OB. With #3 I had some bleeding and pains very early, at 5-6 weeks, so I called my OB and they had me come in immediately. So, if I were you, I'd call them asap and ask to be seen. Especially with your history (the mc), it seems like they would want to watch you closely.

Everything turned out fine with my 3rd, he is 6 months old now. :) I hope everything goes well with yours. Bleeding during pgy is actually pretty common and mostly not a concern. Best wishes!!

Let's see, I found out I was pregnant with E on Thanksgiving and they made my first appointment for January. I believe I was 12 weeks!

However, if I was spotting...I am positive they would have wanted to see me immediately. I would call and let them know.

I saw my doctor this time at about 9 weeks and had an ultrasound then since I didn't know the conceptiond date. I also had the 12-week ultrasound where they check the spinal fluid, then a 19-week ultrasound where they measure everything they can see. Both the 12-week and 19-week are routine test the doctor gives all his patients.

If your spotting, give your doctor a call - you should be able to go in for that.

Hi! Congratulations on your pregnancy! Also, I'm sorry about your loss last fall. I totally understand about worrying about every twinge and spot. The first three months of being pregnant with my son after having a miscarriage were possibly the most stressful of my whole life--all I could think about was checking to see if I was spotting! :( Thankfully my doctor was very understanding and gave me an ultrasound at my first appointment (9 weeks) to check the heartbeat and see that all was well; that made me feel better!

Anyhow, to answer your question: first pregnancy (miscarriage)--had appointment scheduled for 10 weeks, but went in at 6 because of the miscarriage. Second pregnancy (DS#1)--first appointment was at 9 weeks. Third pregnancy (DS#2)--I went in at 4.5 weeks, the day I had a positive pregnancy test, because I was spotting. Turned out everything was okay, but I went ahead and had my first full doctor appointment, ultrasound, etc. at 6 weeks because of the spotting.
So great to see that healthy little heart beating away!

Have you called the doctor about your spotting? My doctor said that spotting with a positive pregnancy test should always be checked out because of the remote possibility of ectopic pregnancy--I'm sure your little baby is just fine, but maybe you'd feel better talking to your doctor (and hopefully getting an early ultrasound) if possible. I know I did! :)

Best wishes for a healthy (and as worry-free as possible!) pregnancy! :)

Thanks for the advice everyone. I'm still coughing from this cold I had last week and I almost think that had something to do with the spotting. It's very very light. I'll give them a call anyways just to check.

Just curious - anyone know how early they can do an ultrasound and check if things are ok?

If I ever get pregnant again I think I would want piece of mind as soon as possible, can they see anything to confirm a healthy pregnancy as early as 6 weeks or is that too early?

Congrats on your pregnancy!!

I didn't find out I was pregnant until I was about 7 weeks along. I was in the middle of law school finals for two weeks and thought the stress was what was making me tired and late. Boy, was I wrong! :) I think I saw my OB/GYN finally around 9 or 10 weeks. Didn't have an ultrasound until 20 weeks as everything was going well and my OB was always able to find DS's heartbeat...she did have to search for a while at my first visit!

I'm sure they would see you right away if you were spotting and have had a MC in the past. It can't hurt to call.

I was undergoing fertility treatments when I got pregnant with mine and 2 days afte rmy period was due I went to the Dr and they took blod...went back 4 days later for more blood and they called me at work to tell me that I needed to get on Progesterone right away or I would miscarry.....I am not sure the exact wording but some numbers were supposed to double from the first test ot the second and they didn't so I went on that medicine for 4 months....actually I talked them into one extra month because I was afraid if I stopped taking it I would loose the baby...

HI!!!! I didn't get a chance to say CONGRATULATIONS to you yesterday. Nine weeks for me for first ObGyn apt. Call them - set your mind at ease.

I think it depends on the circumstances.
I had that problem with both my pregnancies.
The first time when I called the doctor they said not to bother coming in because even if it is anything, there is nothing that can be done so early. With my second I had been trying to conceive for over a year and had taken 3 rounds of chlomid when I finally did conceive. That time when I called the doctor they had me come in for an ultrasound(the kind that will get edited out if I post it here) right away.
With that said, both times its was nothing and I found out that is very common during early pregnancy, so please dont worry. And definitely call your doctor just to let him know and see what he has to say. It may help to make you feel better.
Hang in there!

Because of the spotting, I would have your progesterone tested. Mine was low, I lost my first PG because of that. With my next three, I was tested right away, was low and put on progesterone shots until 14 weeks.

Good luck and congratulations! :Pinkbounc

They can do ultrasounds as soon as you've missed your period, I know I did when I was undergoing fertility treatments. They really can't see anything until between 6 - 7 weeks, as this is when they can visualize a heartbeat. If you really press your OB, especially with prior problems, they usually will do one this early.

I have ultrasound pics hanging up of my daughter from the time she was like 3 weeks (black blop) then 8 weeks, 12 weeks, 20 weeks, 25 weeks and 30 weeks....I found a frame that fit them all in there and they are hanging in her bedroom...it was SO cool getting to ssee her through all those changes!
