Preferred vs standard room

Hi guys:
Other than being closer to the main building, does a preferred room have any other advantages? And talking about distance: where do they cut the line? I mean, how far/close is a standard room in a value?

Last year I stayed with my elderly parents in a standard room in the ASMu and we were in Building #5. They would rather not walk that long again this year. But I see that some offers exclude preferred rooms. Could we get something closer to the main building in a standard?

We have always booked prefered when staying at CBR and POR and we were always within a few minuted walk to the main building and food courts. I always recommend booking prefered. It's worth in IMO.

We book Garden View at POR because there is a bigger selection of rooms than standard view, and then fax a request to the resort a week before we leave asking for a specific building. Last year we were about as close as the preferred rooms, and didn't have to pay for it. You could call the resort you choose the week before you go and explain the mobility issues. I'm sure they would be willing to put you in a decent location if its still available. You just run the risk of being far away, whereas paying for preferred guarantees where you'll be located.

Thank you guys! The additional price for the preferred room in not high at all and it is worthed! Right now we are booked for August 30th in a preferred room, but waiting to see if we can get a discount. I saw that the discount for summer don't include the preferred rooms and that's when it could get a bit more expensive, since it won't only be the slightly higher price, but not being able to apply the discount to a preferred room.

I'll just wait and see, there should be better promotions for late summer
