"Precious" - the movie..

Add Sophie's Choice to the top of my "Saw it, glad I saw it, don't ever want to see it again" list. Put "It's a Beautiful Life" on it, too.

Maybe I'll start a thread...:):thumbsup2

I think I'm going to go ahead and watch it when I get the chance.. Although there are parts that sound very upsetting, it also sounds as though there's a lot to be learned from a movie such as this - just like "Schindler's List"..

I'm not sure I could stomach the book though.. If it's even more "graphic" than the movie, that's not the kind of thing I'm interested in reading..

Thanks for all of the reviews and comments..:goodvibes

To me it's a movie that shows what happens to you doesn't have to define who you are. They are just things that happen to you. They are not YOU. I thought it was very good. And she deserved that Oscar.
Mariah- eh not so much I was annoyed by her- so she didn't wear makeup and her accent was annoying to me. But it sure was a better performance than Glitter..

I just rented this movie from the REDBOX yesterday. It was a movie I have wanted to see for a long time. I thought the movie was good. Yes, there was some very hard parts to watch..BUT.. I cant say I have ever saw another movie like this:confused3. I certainly wouldnt let my kids see it, but I am glad I had the opportunity to view it.

I originally thought the movie might be a good "teaching" moment for DD who turned 13 last week but ended up sending her out of the room:sad2: I'm fairly reasonable about what movies she can watch but this was just far too dark for a kid that age. She has read and seen Boy in Striped Pajamas and Hotel Rwanda but this really topped the list for graphics:eek:

Can you tell me if this is a very dark movie? And by dark I mean... turn on some lights so I can see something!! I hate when movie's are always shot at night or in the shadows!

I wouldn't say so. With the exception of scenes in their home - which was dark and grungy.

Saw this last night.:sad1: It was a tough movie. Very well acted by all the cast. Mo'Nique was a horror show and Gaby was great. I was so thankful for the little bit of eye candy which is Lenny Kravitz to offset some of the horror.
