Where- The Contemporary Resort via Shades of Green

When- October 3-9, 2003

Why- Because we deserve to have some fun!

In March I posted our family trip report that consisted of myself, my DH, 2 DS's, my Mom, Dad & mother in law. It was an awesome trip- 1st time for my parents and they just LOVED it! Mom got notice of a nursing conference in Orlando Oct 1-3 and asked me shortly after we returned if I wanted to meet her down there for an additional 3-4 nights. At first I was hesitant- we just spent about $5,000 on our 10 day trip and we were broke. But Mom and I talked some more- she had a frequent flyers ticket she wanted to give me, we would split the cost of the room, and we could buy the $99 military salute tickets-- pretty cheap! DH backed me up 100% as he knows I am a Disney nut and he thought I should go and have a great time with my Mom. Mom and I used to go to DL once or twice a year while I still lived at home- sometimes Dad would go, but he just doesn't love it as much as we do. Anyway, 3-4 nights turned into 6 nights, all at the Shades of Green rate of $70 a night, and Shades of Green right now is putting their guests up at the Contemporary! We loved the Contemporary last time so we just have really been looking forward to this girl's week away.

First bad news----mom has had a headache that just won't go away. Last week she had a cat scan and it turns out she has a calcified mass in her brain. We were very, very scared there for about 24 hours, and then the neurologist called her and said it isn't anything imminently dangerous and it can be removed any time in the next year or two. The thought of brain surgery immediately makes me think of Frankenstein, so hence, I nick-named Mom Frankenstein for this thread.:p She still has a mild headache but is determined to enjoy herself.

Second bad news- 48 hours ago I blew my knee out- not bad, but I dislocated my kneecap, just while squatting on the floor picking up toys. This is the 4th time I have dislocated my kneecap, so I know what to expect, but I was sooooo mad when it happened...more mad than in pain. I was supposed to be Mom's supporter and cheerleader on this trip- now I have this huge brace on my leg and may have to rent a wheelchair to get around some of the parks. Ughhhhh....I am now known as Gimpy.

Here are our plans for the trip, but obviously a lot of these may change--esp Blizzard Beach. I really wanted to see this waterpark, as it has been under rehab the last two times, but I can't imagine trying to get in and out of any sort of inner tube right now---maybe as time goes on I will be able to next week.

Friday- I leave Portland, OR at 6:25 AM and land in Orlando at 3:50 PM. Mom will pick me up in her rental car and we will check in at the Contemporary. I called yesterday and requested a room close in to the main building (they put all Shades of Green guests in the N. Garden Wing and depending where you are, it can be quite a hike to the Food and Fun Center or the monorail). I will buy our military salute tickets and then head over to the Poly for our dinner PS at the Kona Cafe. Maybe take a monorail ride to Epcot and back or MAYBE go to Downtown Disney just to get a fix. Crash

Saturday- Epcot in AM and early afternoon (counter service for lunch), early dinner at Beaches and Cream, MGM in evening for 1-2 attractions and then Fantasmic.

Sunday-MK, early entry, Cinderella's Table for lunch, Boma for dinner (this may change depending upon my navigational skills needed at a buffet:p )

Monday-Animal Kingdom, Cape May Cafe (I am determined to do this buffet if it means I have to belly up to the buffet line and eat!! JK!!) and walk (HA!) the Boardwalk after dinner.

Tuesday- MGM in AM, 50's Prime Time for lunch, Epcot in PM to see Illuminations! Probably counter service fish and chips for dinner.

Wednesday- Seaworld until about 2:30. We wanted to go to Blizzard beach for 2 hours in the afternoon, but this may change due to my dumb knee. If I'm feeling great we may do Blizzard Beach first and then head to Seaworld. Who knows at this point. Downtown Disney for dinner at the Rain Forest Cafe and shopping

Thursday- MK one last time and our flights leave at 4:30, so we will leave the park around 2:00. Home at 8:40 PM.

Wish us luck & lots of pixie dust!!!

Look on the bright side, you can always rent one of those scooters (aka nursing home Harleys) with a side car for Mom.

:moped: :moped: :moped: :moped: :moped:

Tie a rental stroller on the back and you have a place to put all those bags and packages. Don't forget to get the optional cup holders in the 1 liter size for the German beer you'll be drinking and then tape your crutches on the front of the scooter so they act like horns and scare people out of your way. Think of the advantage you'll have when it comes time to get a spot for the parades! No one will come near ya!

Best of luck!

Marlton Mom :jester: :wave2:

LOLOLOLOL!!! Marltons Mom, you crack me up to no end. I loved your trip reports and I just got such the visual with me and my "Lark" scooter, with a stroller tied to the back, and my crutches taped to the front to get people out of the way. I'm still laughing! And either the liter of German beer or the yard of beer from the UK will definitely be the perfect finishing touch!:rotfl:

Sending {{{{{Hugs}}}} and Pixie Dust to you and your mom and hope that you both have a wonderul time.

Can't wait for the trip report.
