Hey guys! I have a quick question. I am looking at getting a pre-paid cell phone and not sure who to go with. We are with Verizon right now, who we hate, but our contracts are up on Valentines. I was going to wait but I lost my cell at the grocery store last night and when I picked it up, it stopped working and the case is cracked. Anyway, any suggestions? TIA!

Grandson has a Tracfone and it has worked out great. If you need a referral for tracfone pm me with your email and i will send one to you. A referral will give both you and GS 100 minutes free.

On their website www.tracfone.com you can get a reconditioned phone plus some minutes (depends on which plan they now have) for around $20.

Here is a link/conversation about tracfone.

I agree with Tracfone. I am not much for yaking on the phone. Just for emergencys for me. I LOVE the fact that for $18.42 (wal mart price) (40 minutes) every other month, I have a phone. $9/month?!?!?! I was sick of paying so much to the AT&T.........forget them! tracefone all the way for me.

I use Virgin Mobile and even with being on call IT, I spend about $15 a month... Just keep the calls short and use a land line whenever you can.

I recieved a TracFone for Christmas, had a horrible time getting it activated and I wasn't very happy with their customer service on the 800 number. I wanted mine for emergencies only, so we'll see how it goes.

Be sure to get a current Tracfone user to send you a referral email and you get 100 free minutes.

-plus-

If you order the 19.99 phone on their website you get a free 40 minute card with it. (Watch for a bonus code that sometimes comes out and you may be able to double it to 80 min).

All in all, the deal adds up pretty well:

100 free referral minutes
40 minutes phonecard
20 minutes (10 comes w/phone; 10 for activ. online)
-----------------
Phone & 160 minutes for $19.99

And if you order the Model Nokia 1100, you get free roaming!

I have this one and use it as my "travel" cell phone. My regular cell charges me for roaming, which I don't do that often. So it's nice to have this Tracfone to use when we go out of town on vacation or whatever.

I used it this past Sept. at WDW to call home & check on family and it had great reception ~ and saved me a bunch over paying roaming or call surcharges at Disney resort phones.

So, if you don't need it for a lot of talking, Tracfone is great as an emergency phone or one to use like I said, for out of your home area calls.

I had TMobile - and it was fairly reasonable. $50 card got you 450 minutes.

BUT - we switched to the regular contract, and it is so much cheaper! I pay $59/mo - for 2 phones - shared 750 minutes, free nights/weekends and free Tmobile, to Tmobile.

The pre-paid work well for traveling though, cuz no roaming.

ETA - DONT get Virgin Mobile - my son talked my ex into getting this one for him, and he FLY's through the money on it. It's 25 cents for the first minute, on all calls....

We have tracfones (1 dd has verizon) I am very happy with them, I do all my activating on line so I don't have to talk to customer service (it is bad). They just lowered the price on their minutes, and if you join their website they send you bonus codes all the time. One thing I did learn though is the codes can only be used with the pre-paid cards. If you purchase the airtime on line you can't use the codes. You can still redeem the pre-paid cards on line and use the code, just can't direct purchase the airtime on line.

My SIL got the Virgin phone. When we were in Toronto she couldn't get service. She wanted Virgin cause at the time they had the fancier phones.

We used Alltell prepaid for a # of years & LOVE it - great reception everywhere - have recently sitched to "normal" service 'cause it's our main phoneline & dh's work pays for it. ALSO have Cingular phone 'cause I"m added to my families plan so I can talk free & I HATE IT!!! Wish someone would buy them out---everyday---I have a call dropped out of the blue - literally yesterday & today I had been onthe phone about 30 mins sitting in the same spot - not moving at all when the call was dropped - was talking to 2 different Cingualr people too! CRAZY! I can be in Walmart & not get reception on Cingualr & can pick up my Alltell in the same spot & talk on it just fine. CRAZY!

SO of course I vote for ALLTELL!
