A good friend of our family, who lives out of state, and only 47 years old got sick, developed pneumonia, and needed to be placed on a ventilator in a community hospital. Her family transferred her appropriately to an excellent hospital, she was able to come off of the vent and seemed to improve. She was alert, talking, and within 48 hours developed an aspiration pneumonia, elevated white count and some mild confusion. She had to go back on the vent. Sometime during the next 48 hours she developed a C-difficile infection which completely wiped out her entire colon. Last Sunday she went to the OR in septic shock with a 10% chance of coming out. They removed her entire colon, she is still on a vent, her blood pressure is improving but not much else. Today, she is showing signs of liver and kidney failure. It is hard to believe that this person, who has never been sick, got sick so quickly. Please pray that she recovers. They are doing everything possible.

How horrifying! I will definitely say a prayer for your friend, Dawn.. :( Actually, I think maybe we should be praying for a miracle - the poor woman..:sad2:

That is how I feel too. :sad2: DH said that "people have been known to come back from things worse than this". I guess that's true but its hard to feel encouraged right now.

Don't give up hope!! Ask everyone and anyone you know to pray for your friend.. Get a prayer chain going if you can.. Miracles DO happen.. Your friend could be that one in a million to beat the odds..

Prayers for your friend, Dawn. That is scary. I'm a believer in if it is your time, it is your time. I hope that she will will beat this and recover. Her whole colon? Scary!

Yes, if she wakes up, she will have a permanent ileostomy. Apparently 20% of C-diff produces such a severe toxin that it destroys the colon. I can't believe it happened that quick.

Good thoughts and positive feelings are being sent your way.

I had a bout with pneumonia in the Spring. It came on so fast. My temperature went from normal to 105 in about 20 minutes.

She is too young to have to suffer such illnesses.

Sending prayers for your friend and her family. As long as she's still here, there's always hope for a miracle. Try to remain positive.

Sending prayers for you friend. Pneumonia is a dangerous disease. Hope she pulls through.

Sorry to hear DawnCt1 :guilty:. How very scary, to be so young, healthy, and have such a sudden serious health crisis. Sending healing prayers through the help of God's grace and an excellent medical team, she'll have the strength to pull through and have a complete recovery. Keep the faith, I've seen many miracle happen when some thought there was no hope. Godspeed your friend. ^i^

Everyone's prayers must be working, including my cousin's, who I describe jokingly to her, as a "Radical Catholic'. My friend is improving. She had only minimal responses on the right side two days ago, and now she is responding, rolling her eyes, squeezing left and right side equally, and is aware of each person who enters the ICU. She is on continual dialysis, but she is improving gradually. She will probably have a tracheostomy done early this week because she still needs respiratory support, but everyone is feeling more optimistic. its going to be a long haul back, but I, and her sisters are feeling that it is within the realm of possibility. She is in "Mankind's Greatest Hospital" so she couldn't be in better hands. Thank you all for your prayers. I know it has helped.

Oh I'm so happy to hear some good news. I will continue to pray for her speedy recovery.

Glad to hear she's improving. Will continue to pray for her full and complete recovery.

Mass General?? If so, she is in an amazing place where miracles absolutely happen. Glad to hear she's improving. What a scary thing!
