Prayers for Taiwan

I don't refute the high poverty rate, which can never be fully gleaned anyways due to China's lack of transparency. But it's not an accident why so many governments and companies want to do business in China. They have the people to buy our goods, and they have the people to make our cheap goods. All I'm saying is, China is way too important for western corporations, and we all contribute in some way in fueling China's economic engine, the same way they fuel ours. We're all inter-connected somehow. And a war has massive consequences on both sides, if not the whole world. No one wants to risk that over Taiwan. That's just my guess.
China has more to lose than the US. If China does break international laws, South America’s market, along with the Middle East would become the next big trading partner for NATO countries. Middle Eastern companies can compete with China’s tech industry and South American is an under tapped market with expanding infrastructure. Just trying to point out that companies can still make more money and leave China behind.

I agree that they CAN, and I'm arguing that they probably WON'T. Not for Hong Kong. Not for Taiwan.

I get what you are saying. I just find it hard to believe if they can make more money elsewhere. 🙁

Oh they definitely can. but it would take a coordinated effort, money, and time,....all of which doesn't make business sense for many governments and corporations. I wish it were different. And I wish businesses and consumers made better choices. But often times, we all make choices that are best for our wallets, and not necessarily for our conscience.

Maybe a disboards petition would help. 🙁 :confused3

I've personally decided that not buying those ridiculous made in China, 50th Anniversary Starbucks tumblers for $50 is MY way of protesting against China's oppression! Take that PRC! :P
If Disney sold more made in USA products, their sales and stock would rise. And best of all, no shipping issues. What would Walt Disney say? 🤔

I respectfully disagree. If Disney products were made in the USA, those tumblers would cost $150, not $50, and no one would buy them. And their sales and stock would plummet IMO. Walt Disney would say "You idiots!"

Walt Disney would not have sold out to Starbucks and McDonalds in the first place.

To take a slightly different track here .. I’m personally of the opinion that the US and Canada should be boycotting the Olympics in China and not sending our athletes. For many reasons including the atrocities being committed by the Chinese government against the Uyghur people.

Why are we engaging in friendly games of sport with a county that our governments have publicly accused of genocide ?

This. And as much as it pains me to say it, the World Cup in Qatar should be as well. But unless protests catch the media’s attention, no business will pull their funding and governments don’t want to anger their country’s athletic governing bodies.

Actually I think it would be better if we smuggled a bunch of Uyghur out of China, made them US Citizens, and then put them on the Olympic Team.
