I have a few months until I head off to WDW and I really want to get a handle on low light shooting before I go. Does anyone have any suggestions on what would work well to practice on around our house? We live in a rural area so no city lights to use and our street is very dark, we usually can only see front porch lights.

DH suggested hanging some Xmas lights on the back deck but what else do you suggest?

Go out at sunset and photograph your house until about 30 minutes after the sun officially sets. Try leaving different lights on in the windows each night and varying the number of lights on. Shoot the front and the back of the house.

If you really want to try something different, go for a very long exposure shooting toward the sky looking for star trails. Here's some information that might help on those:

The best is going to be going somewhere that does have some external lighting, like a storefront or city building or whatnot. This is going to be closer to replicating the conditions at Disney than probably anything you'll get with your own house, I think.

Hi Kelly

What make and model of camera? Do you own a tripod?

The Tripod is a big plus! Knowing your make and model would tell us what modes you have available. :)
