Do you walk through DTD or is it all street walking? And is there traffic?

It's actually easy and very convenient! All you do is cross the street (so yes, you will have to wait at the crosswalk for the light to turn) and follow the path that takes you directly to the GCH main hotel entry. Once in the GCH, you either go to the left (follow signs to DL/DTD) or go straight through the lobby, following signs to the "Guests only" private GCH entrance which puts you into DCA right in front of GRR. Anyone staying at one of the 3 Disney properties can use this entrance, just make sure you shown your room key. We've done the walk to DCA in 5 minutes before from PPH. DL is a bit longer, 10 or so minutes, but the walk is pretty. Once you cut through the GCH, you enter DTD about 1/2 way down, so not far to walk to DL and it's very pleasant, especially in the morning when things are quiet and just waking up!! We love staying at the PPH!!

Whatever you do, I would not reccommend the route that is marked out at the PPH to get to the parks. It has you exit out the back of the hotel and take a path down towards the DLH and it means you have to walk all through DTD, and it takes much longer. Definitely use the GCH shortcuts to cut time.

Like BabyBears said - it is a very easy walk. We did it with DDs 8 and 10 last year and grandmother in a scooter.

I did it alone at night. The quickest way is to exit PPH down by the restaurant and then walk to the corner and cross the street. There is a person in the security booth at GCH adding to your feeling of security.

I will say the marked way though the back of the hotel to Downtown Disney is the way you want to go if you want to take the monorail into Tomorrowland. More importantly - if you are deciding to avoid the main street congestion on the way home at night you'll want to walk that was from the monorail station to PPH.

When I stayed there we went through downtown disney but the PP's way sounds pretty good too! :thumbsup2

Thanks for the replies. We stayed at DLH last time and are hoping to this time as well but do not want to pay the current rates of $320 per night for our dates. We are hoping for a deal but if they don't offer, PPH would be our second choice. I was concerned about the walk as we love the walk through DTD to DLH and would not want to walk down heavy traffic filled roads.

Have a fun trip:)

For DCA we went through the Grand and used the Guest entrance. For DL, we either went through the Grand and through DTD or we entered DCA at the Guest entrance, skirted around the outside (to the left after entering) and then went into DL. The shorter security lines at DCA made it much quicker than entering DL though DTD, where everyone was coming in.

This is ONLY the quickest if you are planning on taking the monorail AND the monorail is open. Half the time we've tried that the monorail has been down. It's NOT the fastest then.

Oh, and the monorail is only fastest if you're not shooting for Magic Morning in Fantasyland, and IF you're going to Nemo or Tomorrowland.

Otherwise, you want to go out the FRONT of the hotel, out the doors in the lobby (and then follow babybears' instructions going through the Grand). That's the fastest to get to DCA and the bulk of Disneyland beyond the front gates.

We stayed there in May and loved it. The front desk will draw on the map to go through DTD but that is the long way. If you want to skip DTD and get to the parks quicker then go out the front entrance and cross the street (at the cross walk) toward the GCH. To get to DL you come out half way through DTD and walk to the security gates. The whole walk took us 10 minutes from our room on the 13 th floor to the DL main entrance gates. An to get to DCA was much quicker if you used the GCH entrance. We found that PPH was closer than DLH to both parks if you went through the GCH.

Your only next to the street for a few hundred feet. Once you cross the street you are on the GCH property and won't see the street again until you go back to the hotel when you cross the same crosswalk again. We have a 3 year old and we had no issues at all with the street.

I'll be the odd one out and say we really enjoy walking the DTD route. Yes it's longer, but there is no need to cross a busy street. When I'm at DLR, I like to be immersed in Disney and not have any doses of reality. ;)

That is until you are standing in tomorrowland or by TOT and hear fire/police/ambulance sirens from Harbor Blvd. Sorry had to go there.

We stayed at the PP last September. We used the short cut through the Grand once going and once coming back but the rest of the time we walked through Downtown Disney. I just preferred to stay in DD. The walk across the street was not a big deal but it reminded me that there was the real world! :lmao: We usually end up staying at a motel on Harbor Blvd, so when we stayed on site I really enjoyed not leaving Disney even for a minute. :thumbsup2
Plus it was just me and my boys for that trip and it made me feel safer to go the long way.

For me, walking through a mall is awful, and far more of a dose of reality than going across a crosswalk. It's good that we talk about ALL options, so people can figure out "who" they are.

Also, the lobby of the Grand is the best part of the hotel IMO, and starting a day off by going through that lobby really makes the day for me. :)

So true!

Honestly, I felt more immersed in Disney walking on the Disney side of Harbor from HoJo, hearing the music from inside the park and getting there SO quickly, than I feel walking allllll the zigzagging, no straight line through, way through Land of Commerce aka DTD.
