Potty Training/Wetting Bed at the Hotel

My DD is potty trained but has only recently (in the last couple of weeks) stopped wearing pull-ups to bed. She does a pretty good job of not wetting the bed at night, but still has an occasional accident. We have the waterproof mattress pad that we use at home. Don't really want to bring it with us (I don't plan on doing laundry since we are only going for a weekend trip). And I don't want to put a pull-up on her and have a set back.

Has anyone else had this issue and what have you done to protect the hotel bed at night?

I would not go back to pull ups to set her back. I would, however, bring the mattress pad. If she doesn't have an accident, no washing needed. If she does have an accident, you can either throw it away or wash it and that is being considerate to other guests. As another hotel guest, I would be pretty mad to get a bed that smelled like urine.

Wow, you guys were able to get them nighttime trained early!! Any tips? My son is 5 and has been daytime potty trained for 2 years. His motivation was starting Montessori school. Unfortunately he sleeps SO HARD at night that he wets himself pretty much nightly.

We have followed all of the advice. Restricted fluids after dinner, took him to potty before WE went to sleep (around 11 -- although he really doesn't "wake up" -- he kind of does the zombie thing.) Even then he wakes up soaked. We're doing a pull-up WITH a plastic cover at night. They say he will grow out of it... but i'd sure love to hurry the process along.

Tips?

My DS3 is potty trained at night. We never did pull ups. I think it gives them a false sense of confidence knowing they can still wet at night since they have a pull up on. A pull up (to me) is the same thing as a diaper. Give it a try without the pull ups and see how that works. Good luck!

I generally bring along a waterproof mattress pad, just in case :) However, I can tell you that the the WDW housekeeping staff is very understanding when it comes to "accidents". Thanks to a leaky pull-up, we had to request new sheets one morning. They were very understanding and brought us everything we needed to change the bed sheets and took away the soiled ones. Continued luck with PTing and have a great trip!

Not trying to hijack.....but I had to respond to this question. my DS was 4 1/2 before he stopped bedwetting. He was the rare boy that day trained before age 2 during the day. My DS is a very hard sleeper too. It appears that the medical community believes bedwetting before age 6 is normal and part of the brain-bladder connection growth. I would go with a mattress pad, and I wouldn't scold him. They do have alarms that can be worn in the underwear that wake the child up. I would go with a silent model that won't scare and wake up the whole household. http://www.pottypager.com/ GL! this particular brand worked for my nephew.

In Walmart in the area where you purchase Depends there are underpads like hospitals use under patients.

We always bring along the blow up mattress since Ds would fall out of the bed and wake us all up like he does every night at 10 pm :rotfl: When we would go on any vacay after he was first trained he ALWAYS soaked everything. I learned really quick to bring the trash bags to go under him. Saved me from setting in a laundry room and cleaning the blow up. I just started potty training with DD and I'm guessing she will be still in pull ups /plastic pants at night (she still drenches her night diaper) when we make it to our trip in Jan if not I will be packing the trash bags for her. :thumbsup2

We were going to wait to potty train DD until after our WDW trip when she was 2, but she had other ideas and pee-trained herself 2-3 weeks before we left. She was not in pull-ups anymore at night either (although she was still demanding them to poop in, but that's another story!). She never even had one bed-wetting accident. For WDW, we told her because it was someone else's bed and we were just borrowing it, she would have to wear a pull-up to sleep in just in case. She complained a little, but did it. It did not cause any set backs with her.

Just a FYI, most of my kids pee trained before poop trained. Hang in there, and don't withhold the pullup, or else she with withhold the poop, which can cause serious permanant bowel damage.

OP, I always just put pullups on my night trained kids on vacation when they were little.

It's genetic, and taking him to the bathroom when you go to bed doesn't help. I've had kids night-trained by 3, and one who still wet the bed at 8. Not only would he wet the bed, but he'd sleep wet until morning! You can get the alarm, and it works. Our pediatrician said to wait until he turned 8, but I used it earlier on another child.

I don't believe in using pullups during the day, but night training is a totally different story. Some kids just sleep very deeply.

I'd bring a mattress pad. I wouldn't want to go back to pullups, but I think you should do something to protect the matress.

I agree. Or call the hotel & ask them if they have a pad. This can't be the 1st time someone has had this Q in WDW.
