Potty Training-Any Tips?

My DD is 2 years & 4 months and i feel now is the time to start...Potty Training
Im dreading it, she tells me when she has done a wee wee or a poo so i think she is ready.
We have a potty but she wont sit on it naked and she refuses to sit on the toilet aswell so not sure where to go from here but as from Monday im going to try and start getting her trained.

Im new to this as a single parent with just one child ive never done this before. I was thinking of letting her just walk around naked in the house for a few days and hopes she gets the idea that she needs to do a pee pee in the potty

Any advice of tips will be welcome. I need to get this sorted by our next holiday as i dont want to take packs of nappies as they weighed the case down last time

Try getting her a novelty potty and just leave it out( Bex had a bug car! ) Leave her nappy off while you are in the house and keep an eye on her just try to make it fun for her Good luck

i thinks its been easyer with her because she has 3 older sisters so she just copies them.
your little one might find it easyer with no clothes on and just try to be very relaxed about it, some kids are potty trained quicker than others.

i must admit hatti is great indoors but i havent ventured out yet

I think thats what i worry about aswell going out without the nappy on

Kyra seems to want to do it, maybe its her pink potty she doesnt like im not sure. How long does it usually take they are dry during the day on average?

They are all different. Let her pick out some pretty princess pants and make a big deal of being a big girl. They hate the feeling of wet pants so it might click from there.

A sticker chart might help - a little reward for when she sits on the potty

Take her every half hour or so

Dont get frustrated if it doesnt work - she is still little and if you leave it even another month or so things may click into place.

My little girl was easy to train but DS was a nightmare

Good advce. As much as I hate to admit it boys are supposed to be lazier, hence take longer to grasp the idea

Here is the Blue Peter bit

A bit of card - divide into squares - Childs name at top - then buy some Disney stickers - woolies always has packs. I filled a lucky dip box full of party bag type things ,cheap and cheerful and when they fill a row they get to pick a prize

DS trained very quickly but DD was nearly 3 before she realised what she had to do. I just tried every month or so, but she really looked puzzled when she wet herself so I just had to wait.

A few things I remember -
- The sticker chart worked really well for DS
- Pull ups were a waste of time he used them as a nappy
- A step and kiddies toilet seat were great in the bathroom (he didn't like pooing in the potty)
- I had something similar to THIS which meant I could take it with me when we went out and dispose of the liner as I would a disposable nappy

Good luck with the training - I thought it would be the hardest part of parenthood but each year just brings its own challenges!

DS had a reward chart also - free with Kando (so not Disney ), but it worked for him. Also agree that it's best to wear knicks so she can pick out some nice one. Wearing knicks and going without is easier in the summer though when it's warmer and when the clothes can go on the washing line not the tumble dryer or radiator!

Stick at it, think it usually just clicks suddenly if DS and nephews are anything to go by. Good luck.

Its better than a normal potty its like a little chiar, much easier to empty has a sensor that makes a little fanfare when they go, my ds loved to listen for the noise when he went, helped us with potty training, comes with a litttle book too, and some reward stickers much easier to empty to, and can also take legs off to use as a toliet seat when your done with potty training.

I Know its bad but i bribed my son with a sweetie bowl i left in front room and gave him one everytime he went, but he loves hes food, i know what makes him tick, i also left him quite late i tried him at 2 and a bit but he wasnt ready then again at xmas when he was 2.5 and he justfell straight into it, it helps if there ready.

Well today she picked out some Eeyore knickers and did a wee in the potty i was sooo happy, so she picked out a minnie sticker and put it on her potty.

Shes had a small accident earlier but i didnt make a fuss, i just cleaned it up and reminded her to use the potty

I ordered a peppa pig reward chart off Ebay, and i think for every 5 stars she will get a treat. I love the idea about the stuff in a party bag that she gets to pick out.

DS is 2 years 1 month - although shows absolutely no interest in potty training at present. Apparently he is too big for the potty and too small to sit on the little toilet seat

I think we were a bit lucky....we had a free potty training video and having watched it once, Hannah (DD) then wanted to keep watching it over and over...didn't really have any trouble

That's just reminded me that when DS was training there was a TV advert for pull-ups with the catch-phrase "Mummy. Wow, I'm a big boy now" except DS thought they'd said "I'm a biscuit now".
