My DD decided she no longer wanted to wear diapers and has been diaper free during the day for a little over a week. :woohoo: If she is really caught up in what she is doing she will pee her pants (it's happened about 3 times the past week) We are heading to Disney in a month in a half for a Princess weekend. I don't think she will allow me to put her back to wearing a diaper even with big girl panties on top. Even at bed it's a fight to get her in a diaper. I am not a pull up fan either I think they are glorified diapers for an extra price. We are driving for 15 hours down to Orlando and plan to bring a potty chair with for the car but I may have to fight with her on the diaper, I just worry about her regressing! What about at the park should I try her in big girl panties and bring an extra(extra) set of clothes in case of an accident?

I would have her in pullups either over or under her underpants while driving and in the park.

one of my twins just finally got PT'd (he's 3.5) and will wear pullups when we go out - rarely does he pee in them- but its nice to have just in case. He knows it's for "just in case because when we are not home sometimes it's hard to find a bathroom"... so he doesn't feel like he's going backwards- he just feels protected in case he can't get to a potty in time.

I agree, have her wear pull-ups. Especially at night.

We used them at night and on long car rides.

My son was in that phase where he was done with diapers yet not fully trustworthy in undies.....He'd been in undies for a while, but at Disney I put him in a pullup. I knew I would be stressed in the lines and ask him too much if he had to go (which would make him SO mad!) So I just let him wear the pullups and took him once or twice to go potty. He went all day with a dry one and maybe used the bathroom once at dinnertime! We had plenty of drinks too, he just can really hold it.

I would suggest that you look at training pants with an extra layer in them so that if she did have an accident it would be contained.....like this- http://www.kellyscloset.com/Blueberry-Trainers_p_4248.html She wouldn't feel like she was wearing a diaper.

I'm voting for the pull ups or the extra padded panties. Has your daughter ever been in a public restroom? My DD's (4) hate them. It took us a year before we could get them to go into one with auto flush toilets (which is all Disney has).

Oh, me too! My plan is pull-ups in the car with the potty chair, pull-ups at night (his older brother still needs them at night, too), and then undies in the park and just go more often than usual. Bring 2 extra pairs of shorts and undies, and some wipes, and then see how it goes.

We went through this last year. It was terrifying! I wanted to suggest an alternate approach. Let your toddler try to go pull-up free. Take them to the bathroom often so they can try and pee. Only after you have taken them to the bathroom and they fail to try (too scared, too stubborn) should you use the pullup. We had great success with this approach, and we rewarded the heck out of my son every time he used the bathroom. The hardest part for us was that the bathrooms terrified my boy, especially the autoflush toilets and the hand dryers. We used the quieter family bathrooms whenever possible. Also, bring postit notes to put over the auto flush sensors so the toilet doesn't flush while your loved on is sitting on it.

I wrote a trip report about our potty training time at WDW, you might find it entertaining: First Trip Home - An AKV Value Room With a Potty Training Toddler

It ended up going much better than I thought it would. Good luck!

What I have done with my daughter is I placed a ultra thin sanitary napkin in her undies. It can still make her pants/undies a little wet but not swimming in them in accidents. It also makes them feel like a big girl and it reassures me.

Go to malls or big stores with auto-flush toilets and loud hand dryers. Talk about it ahead of time and explain what will make noise, when, etc. Familiarity will go a long way to avoiding fear- I think the problem is when toddlers are taken by surprise and then develop a phobia.
I've been prepping 3 yo DS for autoflush toilets and now he's fascinated with how they work. He also used to complain that hand dryers were too loud, but now he's gotten used to them and likes the whoosh of air. I never forced him to use them, but I would remind him ahead of time that they would be loud and that he could stand away from them if desired.

Great advice. We did this too, but it took a long time for my son to not be scared. He still runs out of the stall before the toilets flush. He's always been a chicken about loud noises.

My ds wasn't potty trained when we took him. He was 22 months but he was just starting to go. I put him in pull ups for my own sanity-couldn't have him pee on the stroller seat! But we did take him to the bathroom often and he went most times.

I had the foldable potty seat for the parks and then progressed to the disposable seats.

Picture this- you stand in line for 20 minutes, and as soon as you get to the front, you know who has to go potty this instant. Can you hold it. No. No I can't. I don't even know what hold it means. Ugh!
Pull-ups are big girl undies.

You've already gotten great advice for a mini Potty-Training Boot Camp, lol.

My DD was 3 for her first trip & we used the trip as a big bribe to help her along with PT since she was already *this close*. (flame away if you will, it worked ;)!)

In addition to doing practice runs in public restrooms, we "got a call" every day or so from "Mickey" or one of his "Friends" calling to encourage her to keep doing great so that she could be diaper free for her trip. She kept getting more excited & more dedicated to PT. She had very, very few accidents.

We were there for 7 days & zero accidents. We stopped frequently at restrooms & kept reminding her how far apart they are. We rarely got into any line without hitting the restroom first. We also started the rule, "If 1 goes, everyone goes" because I'm a big water drinker & need frequent stops myself, lol, so I made her try every single time I went. She learned she had to go more often than she realized.

Wow - I guess I'll be in the minority here but with the trip still over a month away I would wait and see. I would ONLY do pullups (and not diapers - agree on glorified diapers but you want HER to think there's a difference) - if it is 100% necessary. Very likely, in a month she won't be having any more accidents.

I would bring both the pullups and the potty in the car and woudl start with underwear (maybe put a towel or absorbant pad inthe carseat just in case) and again ONLY revert to the pullup if it is necessary.

I would take quick potty stops on the side of the road every couple of hours (only a 5 minute stop - won't hurt the drive time too much).

When we were training ds, we decided to put him back in diapers 'for a short time' and I will tell you it was the worst decision ever. Every child is different - but I would try like heck NOT to use a diaper or a pullup ever again if I was you - especially since she doesn't want them.

At the parks - I would just hit a restroom every couple of rides, and yes, bring a change of clothes just in case.

Check out cloth diapers/training pants or just the cloth insert for her regular undies. It would prevent having to change so many clothes and possibly the car-seat but she would still feel like she is wearing big girl pants.

Today we went to the movies. popcorn:: Her older brothers and the kids I watch are on Spring break so we had to do something fun. Our first big outing since potty training started and I put on a diaper under her panties. 15 minutes into the movie she said she needed to go poot. So we went to the bathroom and I put the tissue lining around the toilet seat and she went pee pee. We wiped, washed hands and went back to the movie. 3 minutes later she said she needed to go again, I thought she just had the wiggles and wanted to escape the movie so I told her to wait. :guilty: She was persistent that she needed to go. I finally gave in and went out again and repeated the process, she peed again. Went back in the movie and 10 minutes later she needed to go again! I figured it was a game. I gave in again once she started to fart, she pooped in the potty I didn't think she would. In my opinion our outing was a success! We are going to the Smithsonian on Friday so we will see, I think I may try her just in panties and bring see how she does. I hope when she get's comfortable she will just go all at once instead of breaking it into 3 trips!
