We are currently deciding whether or not to purchase shares in the AKV. How are these incentives (160 developer points, 160 points in June 08 for use in May 09) compared to other past incentives? Is it a good time to buy or does anyone think the incentives could get better? Does disney barter at all or is it what it is? :confused3

The sales rep dealing with us is a bit pushy, she is telling us that if we don't do it now the price will go up and the incentives will go away. I find this hard to believe, but has anyone had any experience with this? How have your experiences been with the reps and do you keep the same rep for trades, etc.... in using your points because we are not sure that we want to deal with her after we buy and maybe even find a new rep now.

We appreciate any feedback we can get. :thumbsup2

Thanks

The points you receive in June of '08 are actually good for stays from June 1, '08 through May 31, '09. The developer points must be used within one year.

The sales person isn't being pushy. Those are the rules. Once you tour, you have up to a certain amount of time to accept that deal. Once that time period is over, you don't get some of the incentives. In other words, these incentives are an one time deal only. She is right too about the prices always going up. We purchased 11 years ago at $62.50 a point. It has nearly doubled since then.

the incentives right now seem pretty decent - SSR in particular. DVC is about due for another price increase, so i'd suspect your rep is just being honest.

disney typically doesn't barter or negotiate, it's a take-it-or-leave-it deal. if you like SSR (and don't need points right away), you can save a little cash by looking at a resale contract. (AKV resales are harder to come by.)

(of course, a poor economy could change the rules and force DVC to offer more incentives or accept a slower rate of sales...ask your magic 8ball, which might offer advice as good as anything you get here if the future is a lot different than the past...)

for reference (per the hard work of WebmasterDoc) here is a history of DVC prices, as compiled from posts over the years:

We bought beginning of March with the following incentive: discount of $8 per point at AKV ($96/pt.).

Is it a good time to buy or does anyone think the incentives could get better?

Within 2 weeks of our purchase I understand through the DIS boards that incentive ceased and within 1 week the current incentive began. Incentives come and go, with Kidani now available to sell DVC may offer more/different incentives, but again is a TBA kind of thing.

Does disney barter at all or is it what it is? :confused3

It is what it is.

The sales rep dealing with us is a bit pushy,

On a personal note, we've loved our guide, she's never been pushy at all! Sorry!

she is telling us that if we don't do it now the price will go up and the incentives will go away. I find this hard to believe, but has anyone had any experience with this? How have your experiences been with the reps and do you keep the same rep for trades, etc.... in using your points because we are not sure that we want to deal with her after we buy and maybe even find a new rep now.

If you're not comfortable with the pressure, I'd ask for a new rep now, buying in should be a comfortable, low-pressure decision. The incentive may very well go away some time, but if you ask your guide should be able to give you a timeframe for when the incentive expires--ours did. The price of points may increase, but ask when you call, I don't expect AKV to increase until another DVC starts being sold--I could be wrong.

We appreciate any feedback we can get. :thumbsup2

Thanks

Good luck! Hopefully we'll be welcoming you home soon!

That is what our guide told us. We had a certain amount of time to decide and we did decide and we did buy. I still find it a little hard to believe that if we hadn't decided and called back say 6 months from now we couldn't get any incentives even if a different one was being offered? The time just happened to be right for us and I am happy with what we got.

We almost bought when we visited in September, and now I'm glad we didn't because the incentives for Animal Kingdom are much better than they were then. At that time there weren't any developer points and dues started right away. We have been watching for incentives and this particular incentive has us thinking now might be the time to join.

Go for it:thumbsup2 You will not regret it.

We bought resale through the Timeshare Store and did better than the incentive we were being offered. You have to be careful about contract where the points have been "striped", i.e. the points for the year have all been used up. When this happens, it's difficult to figure out how much the missing points are worth - but with a little work on your part, you should be able to figure it out. I'm not necessarily pushing you this way - just letting you know that its an option. One that worked for us.

Does anyone else think that this might be as good as it gets for a while?

I mean with SSR near sell out (according to my sales associate) and AKL starting a new section not ready until 2009, I think that after SSR sells out, they may then announce the CR towers. At that time, Disney will have two new, very appealing, buildings not ready for occupancy, so why make great deals, they know these AKL and Kingdom Towers will definitely sell and they aren't ready for reservations yet...

I am new to all this so does the above make sense to anyone else, or am I just dreaming?

Just as an FYI - My mom bought in 91. Max points and as added as disney has let her. It's been awesome for our family, but I am one of five and now I have to fight for points. :lmao:

So my husband just said last night we should buy our own!! So I have been check out the boards...it seems like the right decision too!
