Waiting until the Cntemporary DVC opens to buy in, but had a question:

Can you pay your buy-in fee with a credit card (be nice to have 30,000 credit card points)?

How much of a hassle is it for my brother and I to buy in together and have our pool of annual points sub-divided for our seperate uses or will we just have to divide them up ourselves?

Anyine hear a rumored date of Contemporary initial sales?

1) Dont hold your breath for the Contemp to be DVC no one knows ?
2) you would have to divide them yourself and keep track of them unless you buy seperate contracts.

Thanks. But, breath held for Contemporary! Doubt there will be any discounts on its DVC villas!

Yes you can use you CC to pay off as much as you want.

Check with your credit card company before counting on the reward points. Most have a limit on the number they will award you for a calendar year.

Also, my credit card doesn't have a $30K limit - congrats (I think) if yours does. :) :)

Don't count on the Contemporary. As everyone keeps saying... management can always change its mind.

If I were considering a DVC purchase today, I would focus entirely on two things:
  1. The features and benefits which are guaranteed, in writing, in the Public Offering Statement for the timeshare, instead of the fairytale the guide tells you. Anything which is not guaranteed in the POS can be changed overnight with the stroke of a pen.
  2. The long list of fundamental changes DVC has imposed over the last year or so, many of which are detrimental to the owners and reduce the value of ownership.
My experience has been if I make sound financial decisions, the frequent flyer points from my credit cards take care of themselves.

From the amount you are quoting I would just buy two contracts, one in each of your names. If one of you is considering a smaller amount(less than 160) then you could buy one master contract in both names and do a smaller addon to that contract. That way if either of you wanted to sell your points later it would be possible. If they are all on one contract you cannot divide them up if you need to sell but with a master and addon you can sell either one or both of them. You would still need to keep track of who is using how many points on your own each year. The other advice that has been given here in the past is that in the event of divorce or bankruptcy the contract could be in jeopardy for the person who is not involved in the proceedings. You will aparently have plenty of time to research what you can or can't do if the comments about when or if the Contemporary DVC will be announced are correct. Even if they announce it tomorrow it will be awhile before they start sales ---
Almost forget - in answer to your original question - I did put my first contract on a credit card or at least part of it that would earn the points for that card and ended up with money off on the next car I purchased. There was a limit so only ended up with $500 since I didn't have any other card with rewards to put the rest on. You can divide it up with different cards also as I did that with my second contract. Fortunately I also had the money to pay them off without incurring any interest.
