How young of a child would you take to see this?

My son is not easily scared by movies, and we watch with him and talk about them. He regularly watches the first POTC DVD, and is also a fan of things like Jaws that he watches with DH. He also recently saw the preview of a PG-13 movie, Monster House, which is soon to be released, and he had no problems with it.

He has been looking forward to this movie for months, since he saw the first trailer when we went to see Chicken Little, but I have heard it may be too scary by some people, but that he may not have a problem with it by others.

What has been the experience with your child?

:confused3 :confused3

dw went with oiut me,, have to ask her. i will wait on the dvd.

Mine are bigger now, but if they were 10 or so I would take them. Any younger, and probably not.

Having said that, there were a lot of younger children at the movie.

We don't have children, but there were certainly a lot of them at the theater on Friday night. They weren't scared as so much worn out by the end of it. It's very long. As an adult, I found the complex plot difficult at time because of the numerous sub-plots and keeping everything straight- not to mention that some of the dialogue gets rough to understand in places. The children behind us (I guess one was 10 and the other 7) got fidgety becuase they lost track of the story and got sick of sitting. Mom and Dad did their best to explain it from there on in, but it was rough for them.

I think you probably know your children best. Is there any way that you can see the film and then guage how DS would do with it?

I can't talk my 7 year old into going, so I'm thinking of taking my 2 year old. He won't know what's going on. Right?

It depends on the kid - I took my DD6 & she LOVED it!! But she loves movies like the Mummy, LOTR, Harry Potter, etc.... But I know this movie would be too intense for one of her 7 year old friends (she is still afraid of Mickey Mouse :confused3 so I guess she wouldn't be counted as a "normal" 7 year old?)

There were a lot of kids at our matinee showing - not one child cried, screamed or acted up. The only problem we had were the teenagers who wouldn't shut up or stay seated (the same 2 girls got up at least 10 times each!!)! We were there early for our showing, so we got to see the people from the showing before us leave - again lots of kids of all ages & not one walked out looking scared or like they cried.

Thank you for your replies.

I think I may go see it first and then decide, it's not like it's a hardship to have to watch Johnny twice. ;) :teeth: I think he will probably be able to handle it, but I want to make sure.

We took our 3 kids to see it yesterday ages 5, 7, 13...They all liked it. The younger two thought it was a little scary in a few parts but all in all they liked it and can't wait until it to come out on DVD...

I haven't seen it yet, but my sister saw it on Saturday. Her dd is 4 and she said that her dd will never see that movie unless she buys it herself. She said it was absolutely disgusting. :confused3

I don't have a small child, but DD14 and I were grossed out a lot of times. There is a lot of frightening imagery and some "BOO!" moments. We thoroughly enjoyed it, though.

I think it depends on the child. My nephew is 5 and can't wait to see it. He'll be fine with it. DH and I took my mom with us to see it. She's a huge Captain Jack fan. One of the first things she said when we left the movie was "I wonder when Tim will call and ask me if I want to go see it so I can see it again". (Tim is my brother, my nephews father) My answer to the question is, you know you child better than anyone, use your judgement. My gut feeling about your son is he will love it.

It all depends on the child.

My children know - we reiterate this to them all the time - that movies and television (for the most part) is make believe.

My children have seen many PG-13 type movies. They were so excited to go see POTC2. And we all loved it. They watched intently the entire movie.

many people are freaked out by Davy Jones crew and their transformations...

- don't know why, but Will's flogging was the one part I wish they had left out, but then again he recovers remarkably well and remarkably fast ;) ..I guess that is partly why I think they should have just left it out....didn't work for me on many levels....(although many Orlando fans were happy to see him with his shirt off!!!)

took two 8 year olds - they loved every minute....but neither of them are easily scared.

We took both of our DD's to see it at the weekend. Our youngest DD is 8 and she loved every minute of it! :thumbsup2

We took DS4 (he'll be 5 in September) on Saturday, and he loved it. It was a little long, but he sat thru it all. He almost fell asleep close to the end, then the action picked back up again and he was fine. Nothing scared him at all.

WTH? :confused3

POTC 2 "absolutely disgusting"???

If you are unsure, I say go watch it first and then decide.

I saw others Aiden's age in the movie theater with us and they were just fine. :)

That's what she said. She said it was gross and she'll probably never see it again. Her husband agreed with her. But then again, we don't exactly have the same taste in movies. I'm sure I'll be okay with it. :)

I was supposed to see it Saturday, but wasn't able to make it to the theater. Hopefully I can see it soon. I know that I won't let my dd5 see it. She gets scared very easily the first POTC disturbed her very much.

i watched the first one with my 4 yr old niece yesterday- i was suprised she was glued to the TV- (she must take after her aunt- lovin mr. depp!) anyway- she loved it. she loved when the crew would turn into skeletons. however, i have to ask SIL how DN slept last night after seeing it- SIL says DN has nightmares after watching scooby doo episodes when they go to the haunted house etc! :rotfl2: not sure how she handles the skeletons!

i personally thought the skeletons were MUCH scarier in part 1 than Davey Jones' crew in the 2nd hands down! :thumbsup2

BUT with that said- i saw part 2 friday night and was a bit disappointed. i thought they went overboard with the action- it felt like it was non stop-- i wanted to hear some good dialogue! after watching part 1 last night- i noticed how jack sparrow had an enjoyable "pirate mean streak" to him (ie- holding the knife to miss swans throat to escape, the sword fight with will- jack was giving some pirate attitude to young will turner, throughout the movie he seemed to be an experienced pirate etc) but in the 2nd movie- they seems to make him out to be a stupid, bumbling funny pirate-- i was not impressed, but will be there fore #3!

I totally agree, this was the one part of the movie that I did not like.

My dd is 10 and used to be very scared very easy. She is getting less so now. She jumped out of her skin once, but otherwise, she loved it. I do agree, it gets long and hard to follow, I think kids too young, might get lost or bored. And some of it is a bit gruesome, but there were a ton of kids, some very small when we saw it Friday night, and not one kid yelled or cried or made any noise during the film.
