POTC2 and children

What is it rated? To me and my family PG-13 means they will be 13 before I allow them to see it.

We may take DD, almost 4, to see the movie at the drive-in on Wednesday.

We weren't sure, so we bought the first one on Friday and watched it over 2 nights. She loved the skeleton pirates. She thought they were funny. She watched the whole movie. No nightmares.

Right now, she is "pirate Kaleigh" and wearing the bandana she just got at MCd's yesterday.

They are more like guidelines than actual rules. :teeth:

:rotfl2:

yes, PG-13 "for intense sequences of adventure violence, including frightening images"

My husband took our sons 5 and 7. The 5 year old fell asleep an hour and a half into it. (Pretty common for him.) My 7 year old liked it but everyone complained that it was too long. (Including the 32 year old. :lmao: )

We just took our 3 boys (8, 7 and 3) to see POCT2 yesterday. DS3 fell alseep, pretty common for him.

All the kids loved it and didn't seem to be scared at all. I was more concerned about inappropriate previews ;) .

I say, you know your son best and only you know what he can handle.

IMO, he will absolutely love it.

OT but, my DS7 loves the POTC, LOTR, Star Wars, Harry Potter movies, but is scared to death of ET. Go figure :confused3 .

Try looking at the review on moviemom.com

This is a great site, it gives very detailed information and explains why the movie has the rating. She reccemends children 12+ but you know your child best.

My DD6 was fine with it.

Someone behind us had a crying child in the theater who apparently wasn't fine with it...fortunately they finally took him out.

Thank you for that link, it was very informative. :thumbsup2

I wouldn't feel comfortable w/my DD4.5 seeing it. DH & I went yesterday and couldn't believe how many small children were there. There was a 3 yo behind us, and then a family rolled in a stroller!! The youngest must have been about 8 mos old. And, she was crying at least 5 times during the movie.

My little brother 8yo went to see it with his friends 7yo and 8yo last night. He thought it was funny! and wasnt scared at all. lol

I took DS 8 to see it and he loved it, he als0 likes to watch all those weird movies like Alien VS. Predator, X-Men, etc. He did say that Davey Jones was gross but he wasn't scared at all.

I took my DS6 to see it and he loved it. There were a couple of times that I wanted to cover his eyes, but he wouldn't have any part of that.

The only thing I would say is it's a long movie for a younger child. My DS started asking when it was going to be over about 1/2 hour before it did end. It seemed to drag on a bit long for him.

Other than that, he can't wait to see the next one. :thumbsup2

I just read the moviemom review. Is the strong female character a bad thing? Everything else listed in that column seemed to be negatives. :confused3

Hmmm I probably should have started a new thread, I don't mean to hijack this one.  :tiptoe: :duck:

I took all my kids to see it yesterday. They are 3.5, 4.5 and 10. My younger ones did ok, but I didn't realize just how violent this movie was compared to the first one. There were some intense moments, but fortunately my kids did ok. We were in a huge, packed theater (the El Capitan in Hollywood) and there were tons of younger kids there. I only heard a couple of babies crying every now and then, so I think that most of the kids handled the movie pretty well.
