If this should be on the Theme Parks Community Board, sorry.

Is the Pirates prison dog named? I haven't been able to find its name.

Also, is it true that it and Rover from CoP are both modeled after Walt's dog?

The quote from the Wiki listing only says one of the characters (Pintel) in the FILM named the (movie) dog, "Poochie."

Prison Dog
The Prison Dog guards the Port Royal jail keys by carrying them in its mouth during The Curse of the Black Pearl. Prisoners vainly attempt to retrieve the keys from it(in a reference to the Disney Parks's Pirates Of The Caribbean ride). The dog appears again in Dead Man's Chest with Pintel and Ragetti after they have escaped prison and are headed for Pelegosto to search for the Black Pearl. He was named "Poochie" by Pintel until he was left on Pelegosto...

No reference to the original PotC dog in the Disney Parks being named, "Poochie."

Robo - did you ever think you'd be up at 1:30 AM answering a question about the POTC dog??

luv your maps BTW

I asked a CM one time about whether or not Walt Disney had a great dane (given Pluto's characteristics and so many other Disney dogs were danes) he told us that Walt Disney was allergic to dogs and didn't have one. I didn't and still don't believe that as there are many accounts of his purchasing dogs for his wife. I want to say those were Chow Chow's, but its early and I can't remember completely.

As to whether or not Rover and Poochie were modeled after his dogs - I don't think so. His wife had dogs, but a different pure breed. I don't believe he was allergic, but who knows. Obviously he LOVED animals - look at all the old WOD shows with the introductions in his office - covered in animals.

Walt and his family definitely had a dog. I think it was some type of poodle though? Not sure. I remember seeing a clip of him getting the dog to do a trick for a hot dog, or "Weenie" as he called it. I also believe that is where the term for larger then life icons came into play, "Weenie" to draw guests closer into the parks.

Hey, thanks everyone for the help. I didn't remember the dog ever having a name.

I was talking about the prison dog, btw, if you didn't figure that out.

Actually this dog was a favorite of Walt Disney. He also appears in the Carousel of Progress and is the Caretaker's dog in the Haunted Mansion.

But isn't the same dog?

Walt Disney had a poodle named Lady & I wish I could remember how I know that so I could verify it for you :rotfl: Pluto is not a Great Dane...alot of people think so but again I "heard" he was a bloodhound or a pointer. I DO know that when I was with a rescue group for Pointers and I saw him he noticed the shirt. Pluto got all happy dancing around and tapping his chest to indicate "Me!" It was adorable & we had our picture taken doing that "point" stance :goodvibes so straight from Pluto I'm going with Pointer :thumbsup2

pluto and goofy are hounds
he couldnt be that allergic as i saw clip of him with hounds

and i thought the prisons dogs name was max

I know the Grinches dogs name is max

Walt had at least one girl dog. He talked about her on TV and said she was the only female in the family who hadn't talked about him to the papers.

He's lost some weight when for his appearance in Haunted Mansion.:lmao: I can count his little rib bones. I always want to "fatten" the poor little thing up whenever we get to the caretaker and the dog part.

So let me get this straight. People here are saying the dog in POTC,CoP and Haunted Mansion ARE the same dog. I did did not know that. Is that correct? If so where does this information come from? Didn't the dog in POTC kind of change fur color when WDW had the ride refurbished?? Maybe I am just lost.

I believe we were told that the three dogs were the same in the Keys to the Kingdom tour, but I have no way of verifying it.

When I did the Keys to the Kingdom tour I was told the dog in CoP and PotC were the same, don't remember anything being said about the HM dog. I was also told on that tour that the dog's name was, and not sure how this would be spelled, but Deeogi, pronounced D O G, emphasis on the o.
