Then when the attraction is closed for such work, you read "Why is xxx attraction being closed for so long, and why during my visit?"
Just curious; where do you find the dates for ride closures? I'd like to see if any will be closed when we go in October.
I think for PotC it's more "why is it being closed throughout the entire peak season?"

I always find it interesting to read posts such as "Just got back, and xxx attraction really needs refurbishing/updating...".

I think this is a standard reflection of human nature and the fact that people have different needs, desires, and interests. You will also see some people complain that the parks are too crowded while others complain that ticket prices are too high -- even though the only way to reduce crowds is to make a WDW trip more expensive. Check out a thread on rude behavior and you'll see some people say that X is rude while others say that it is rude to call X rude.
Here, everyone is right. The ride needs an extensive refurbishment, and it sucks that the ride will have such an extensive refurbishment. It would be better if the ride was maintained properly during normal (shorter) annual refurb periods, but we go to the WDW we have, not the WDW we want.

They're making it into a FROZEN Themed ride....)))) NOOOOO ((((...LoL Only kdding...That's a LONG time to be closed. Wonder what they're doing to it.
PoTC has been down frequently for long periods for the last few years. I honestly don't know why it is such a priority now, other than swapping out the boats. The early rumors were that it would close in August, and reopen by the Christmas rush. I just don't think the ride could wait that long, at this point.
The last week of January it was down at least once per day, and on our last day, it was pretty much down from Noon until closing.
With that much downtime, the problems are pretty serious, and they had to close it ASAP to get started. It has always seemed the refurb would last a few months (it's that extensive). Unfortunately with the need to get started earlier, it put the closure smack in the middle of Summer. It couldn't be helped, as the ride is sorely in need of this refurb.
