Say it isn't so!!

Ok. Agreed. It needs some major work done. Especially on those boats.

Gonna miss it.

Closed: 5/11/2015- 9/25/2015

Just curious; where do you find the dates for ride closures? I'd like to see if any will be closed when we go in October.

I always find it interesting to read posts such as "Just got back, and xxx attraction really needs refurbishing/updating...".

Then when the attraction is closed for such work, you read "Why is xxx attraction being closed for so long, and why during my visit?"

Note that this isn't directed at anyone in particular, or on this thread. It's just something I've noticed on these boards over the years. Heck, I've probably posted about attractions needing updates myself.

I think for PotC it's more "why is it being closed throughout the entire peak season?"

True, but I imagine that sometimes things get to a point where a fix is needed now, and they can't push it off until a slower season.

From Thanksgiving on is also peak season. Christmas and New Years are busier than any other time of year. And now February has Presidents Day, Spring Break starts in March, along with Easter depending on the year. There just are not that many quiet times of the year anymore.

I think this is a standard reflection of human nature and the fact that people have different needs, desires, and interests. You will also see some people complain that the parks are too crowded while others complain that ticket prices are too high -- even though the only way to reduce crowds is to make a WDW trip more expensive. Check out a thread on rude behavior and you'll see some people say that X is rude while others say that it is rude to call X rude.

Here, everyone is right. The ride needs an extensive refurbishment, and it sucks that the ride will have such an extensive refurbishment. It would be better if the ride was maintained properly during normal (shorter) annual refurb periods, but we go to the WDW we have, not the WDW we want.

I don't think what is wrong with Pirates could be fixed by a short refurb. The ride was properly maintained, it is that they screwed up with the new boats. And then that person got hurt sticking their hand between the boats.

People complain about the annual refurbs too, don't forget.

EXACTLY! From all of the reports on here, it has been needing refurb for a good while now, so why on earth did they wait and close it during the busy summer months??

I seriously have toyed around with the idea of rescheduling the trip we have planned for June until next year.... My family loves POTC and this will be the first time we've not gotten to ride it on a trip!

That's a LONG time to be closed. Wonder what they're doing to it.
They're making it into a FROZEN Themed ride....)))) NOOOOO ((((...LoL Only kdding...

This is one ride that I dreaded to see on the refurb, while we are there. But what can ya do?:confused3
I guess the other lines will just be that much more UNBEARABLE.

The early rumors were that it would close in August, and reopen by the Christmas rush. I just don't think the ride could wait that long, at this point.

The last week of January it was down at least once per day, and on our last day, it was pretty much down from Noon until closing.

With that much downtime, the problems are pretty serious, and they had to close it ASAP to get started. It has always seemed the refurb would last a few months (it's that extensive). Unfortunately with the need to get started earlier, it put the closure smack in the middle of Summer. It couldn't be helped, as the ride is sorely in need of this refurb.

PoTC has been down frequently for long periods for the last few years. I honestly don't know why it is such a priority now, other than swapping out the boats.

We're planning our first trip for late May and we're definitely bummed that we won't be riding POTC. Then again, it goes on the list for next time, and it will be new and improved!

Kind of bummed too, but agree it needs major help! We were at DL in CA this past summer and I have to say, we LOVED the version there and found it to be better!
