Las Vegas Pot legal in NV

It'll be interesting how this all goes down. I had a look at the initiative, and it specifically says that a private property owner can restrict the use or delivery of pot on their property. I'm pretty sure that all the indoor smoking laws apply. I don't suspect that Nevada's biggest industry is generally going to allow its use on most properties.

Since California passed a similar initiative, I don't think there's going to be much pot tourism going from California to Nevada.

Once someone does get their hands on the stuff, smoking will only be allowed indoors at private homes. There won't be any smoking in casinos or hotel rooms, and there's no crossing over state lines with it.

Supporters see that last one as a major opportunity for tourism. They expect there to eventually be lounges and even boutique hotels where smokers can go to light up.

"This is something that will bring in new tourists and hopefully revive some older properties that are on the outskirts or some of these motels that are closed down," said Joe Brezny with Yes on 2.

I can see this being a good fit for Vegas.

The definition of public place is pretty expansive, which is any place where the public is allowed to be or invited. I suppose they could do something like Utah liquor laws and call a place a "private club". It certainly doesn't sound like a casino could open a pot room onsite and allow pot smoking there.

Technically all " Clubs " in Vegas would be considered private. Not that they would go down that road. But someone will want to cash in.

As far as I can tell, only age-restricted casino floors and bars are exceptions from the Nevada's indoor smoking law. Before the law, I found it odd when I was in a restaurant in Reno, and I was asked if I wanted to be in the smoking or no smoking section. I hadn't been asked that question in California for a long time. I also found it odd that Nevada even enacted a ban on smoking, given the biggest indstries are all vices.

However, pot isn't considered the same as tobacco or vaping. Question 2 made it clear that smoking pot wouldn't be legally allowed in any public place. Now illegal is another matter. I've been to plenty of places where the smell was unmistakable, but nobody seemed to care.

The current plan is to start in January figuring out the details of tax and sales.

One thing to point out though is that because of a stupid person driving into a crowd of teens cleaning the freeway as part of community service and killing some of them, we have tough laws about driving while under the influence of just about everything. So I want to see how that plays into everything.

UPDATE there are now 6 dispensary within a 10 minute drive of South LVB.

Two venues are to open soon ( fall ).
One is a private club ( no address yet ). The other is a party bus that tours the strip.

I heard that several are running out of pot. And the strange way they have it set up is that licensed liquor vendors are the ones that are supposed to be authorized to be wholesalers, but none have an active license yet.

It seems that all the medical dispensary are now selling recreational. Liquor stores may be a secondary market. But to date I haven't gotten word on any selling so far.

Not sure how that would work since the actual city of Las Vegas is pretty small and doesn't cover most of the area that most people think of as Las Vegas. I thought that a lot of the laws that apply to the Strip and other areas are enacted by Clark County or the state since most of the area is unincorporated.

I did find that Carson City (which is more or less a city not considered in a county) enacted a law that allows for pot smoking lounges.

I wouldn't expect to be able to do pot on the strip any time soon. And I say hooray for that.
Vegas passed pot lounges too. However there are some restrictions.
1. You can't smoke it in your car or in public. Must be on private property with permission.
2. You can't buy pot at the lounge. You have to bring your own in. And you must be 21.
3. The casinos aren't going to touch it while it still is against federal law.
4. The lounges can't be visible to the public.
5. They have to be 1000 feet from a casino or school and 500 feet from a church.
6. The Vegas line is just south of the Strat. So the strip isn't included.
7. The Vegas ordinance passed before the state took action. The state may be putting a hold on said lounges for years.

Well if I had to guess , you will see a smoking venue that also serves food in Planet 13 by mid 2020.
