I'm on DVC's mailing list and just received a postcard offering a new incentive: "free" vacation w/ purchase. Has anyone heard of this offer? How does it compare to past offers. The postcard didn't have much detail, but I'm thinking you get bonus points w/ purchase that you can use right away. Maggie

This is from the member website, and might explain a bit more about what is being offered:

Actually, the offer that wintergreen quoted is only valid for CURRENT members.

The offer for a "free" vacation is as follows:

If you buy points at Saratoga Springs now, they cannot be used until at least March 2005. Payments, interest (if financed through DVC) and annual maintenance do not start until mid-2005 with a purchase.

Under these terms, you can choose one of two promotional offerings:

1. Pay the base price of $95 per point and you get a set of Developer's Points to use toward a trip between now and 9/30/05. If you buy a 150-pt contract at SSR, they give you a one-time grant of 150 Developer's Points. No maintenance fees or other costs must be paid in association with these points.

2. If you forego the points, they will give you a credit of $10 per point (net $85 per point) toward your initial purchase.

These promotions are pretty consistent with what has been offered in the past. If you're interested in DVC, the primary concern should be future price increases.

Folks who bought SSR a year ago received as many as 51 years worth of points for $79 per point. Now the best you can do is 49 years for $85 (or 50 years for $95).
