My family ,DH, DD-9, DS-6, and I, will be going to MNSSHP on October 11th. We will be a family of Pirates. I chose those costumes for us because they're easy to make (sewing various parts of them), easy to pack, and they will be cool and comfortable to wear. pirate:

The first party, I wore all black and a witches hat. DH wore his new MNSSHP tshirt. The next party, I wore Pooh ears, a red Pooh shirt, and mustard colored pants. DD2 was Tink, and DH wore his new MNSSHP tshirt. This year, I am wearing Minnie ears/gloves, with a red/white polka dot sundress. I may carry a polka dot purse as well. DD2 may be Sleeping Beauty, and DD12 will be a gothic vampiress (not scary). DH will wear his new MNSSHP tshirt (noticing a trend here?). I offered to buy DH a costume, and he even mentioned going as Jack Sparrow, but of course that costume is still 80. at Disney Direct pirate: . I was thinking of making (ummm...asking DH to wear a Mickey tshirt to our dinner at CM, and DD2, DD12, and I would all dress as his "Minnies". What do you think? Overkill? We do have those matching tiki outfits....

The girls and I will be attending om SEPT. 30TH. I as myself (disneyfreak), DD9 WILL BE JASMINE AND DD5 WILL BE BELLE..

LLIJ IF I SEE A VERY PREGNANT LADY I NOW KNOW IT IS NOT A COSTUME AND IT IS YOU!!! iI'LL STOP AND SAY HI!

Well my little ones are going as ariel and tinkerbell (costumes from disney direct of course, I can't sew a button LOL). And for the rest of us I got us all matching disney shirts that are orange.

We ALL will wear them during the day (got the girls shirts too) so we can get a pic of all of us in our matching t's and then we will have the girls change into their costumes before our PS at Cindy's table and the party that night. We are going on the Friday before halloween.

Luckily we have a washer/dryer in our timeshare cuz I will probably have everyone wear the shirts again on halloween when we go to universal and then I am thinking of letting the girls wear their costumes again and trick or treat at dtd.

I am worried enough about getting the two little ones costumes from CA to FL in one piece so needless to say they are the only ones dressing up besides our matching t-shirts.

Well, I see someone else had the same idea. There will be seven of us ranging in age from 2 to 75. Except for my DH and my friends son we are all former or current Disney Store cm's. Had thought about characters from Alice in Wonderland but decided the costumes could be too much to mess with trying to get on and off rides.
We are going on Oct 2, We will be the group barking for our trets!!!

I have really enjoyed reading about all of your wonderful costume ideas. This will be my first MNSSHP and I am super excited.

It took MONTHS for DH and I to agree on costumes but we finally did and the bulk of the work is done. We will be there on October 7 dressed as two of the subjects from the Haunted Mansion's Stretching Room Portraits!!

Lucille, you will not be dissappointed! When my dh and I "stumbled" onto MNSSHP by accident, I was absolutely amazed by the whole thing. Then, being the dork I am - I actually started crying when I realized all these people were in costume and I- being a halloween commando - was not! Needless to say, my new DH (it was our honeymoon!) saved the day by buying a "safari" hat and rubber snake in adventureland for me. And so I became the crocidile hunter for the remainder of the night. LOL

This year we are going back for our anniversary (4!) and we are going as Space Aliens!! Complete with glow in the dark braclets, sparkly things and maybe I'll even talk in my best space voice!! We will be there on 10-13
I CAN'T WAIT!!! :cool1:

I think DH and I are going to go Oct 2 too... still undecided though. If I can get him to dress up at all, I think I'd be able to get him to dress in scrubs and be a "surgeon"... but that doesn't leave me with any good costume ideas.

I really wanted to be Mary Poppins and have him dress as a chimney sweep as Bert, but he wasn't going for it...

Any ideas what would go with a surgeon?

MNSSHP 10/30/5
DD 33 Peter Pan
DS 11 Crusader
Me 49 Pirate

I wanted easy costumes to make.
That didn't take a lot of room in suitcase.
No hats or extra stuff to carry around.

Making a tunic for DS to wear over black shirt & pants.
Making a vest for me to wear over black pants & blue shirt.
Not sure what my DD costume looks like.

How about his patient.
Maybe pj's, robe & slippers.
Added touch a few bandaids & hospital I.D bracelet.

Costume idea to go with a surgeon. Nurse immediately comes to mind. Maybe carry a tray of scalpoles, gauze and other surgical implements. Or an anastisiologist (sorry about the spellings).

DH and I are going as Princess Eilonwy and Assistant Pig Keeper Taran from The Black Cauldron. I'll start the costume's tomorrow, but since we won't be there until Oct 13, I'll have enough time (I hope!!).

This should be fun...I haven't made a costume in ages, not since I fumbled my way through a renaissance dress a few year ago with the help of many, many websites (I didn't even know all of the terminology on the costume pattern!).

It turned out ok, so I have high hopes....and, well, if it flops, we can always resort to Disney Halloween tee-shirts. :)

Well,

We are going October 30th and will be our first MNSSHP.

I am trying to figure out what to wear for everyone. My wife and I are willing to dress up and would like to have a theme. My DW (36), DD's 9 & 3, DS is 7.

Any suggestions, I'm searching everywhere for ideas....

Thanks...

All of these costume ideas sound so great, but I am really worried about the heat. I don't want my DD5 and DS2 to get sick of their costumes in the first 1/2 hour and then I have to carry them around all night. Any ideas on if this seems to happen a lot? I just keep going back and forth... Yesterday I bought us all orange Halloween t-shirts at Target and was thinking about just having all 4 of us wear those, but I don't want my kids (well, at least DD) to feel left out if all of the other kids are in costume...

As a side note, two of my favorite costumes from a friend back in college. One year he dressed as "static cling". He wore all black and then safety-pinned sock and dryer sheets all over him. Very clever, cheap, and wouldn't necessary have to be too hot if you wore shorts and t-shirt. His other good costume was to dress in white, cut out the bottom of a round, white laundry basket and wear it upside-down around his waist, and a red cap on his head. He looked like a badmitton shuttlecock - so clever! I really wish I had an imagination like that...

WOW! what great ideas!
I just got our ressies tonite and the tickets for the MNSSHP... better late then never. Now on to costumes....
bigkid@disney-if you can't sew a lot go to a local Goodwill/Sal.Army or other charity store. Check out the old formals and suits. The old seer sucker blue and white striped light weight suits would make a great costume with a cheap straw boater hat from an online dat store. That would be a Jazz/1940's type outfit. Or a dark over old suit , with pin stripes, would make a great Ganster outfit with a hat, kinda like a Dick Tracy outfit. Then an old formal/cocktail tress for a Ganster's Moll for DW.... and any kids could be little gangsters...?
Also look for old hospital scrubs, and (tastefull?)dab them with red fabric paint, like Tulip paint, for "blood". Should be cool and comfy, but would be best if they arn't to bloody... it is Disney!
If you have any Vintage clothing stores or friends that never toss old clothes check out what they have. You can do a retro '60s disco/ or Sat.Night Fever outfit. I just saw white patten leather Go-Go boots for $3.99 at our local Goodwill.
And you can allways do the old Hobo/Bums outfits, patches on jeans, rolled up shirts... and you can "black" out a tooth if you really get into it.
Hope this helps...
And I have NO idea what we will wear! Didn't think we were going to get to go till tonight! So jazzed! Can't wait!

Well,

We are going October 30th and will be our first MNSSHP.

My husband and I will be there Oct 30th and it will also be our first MNSSHP. I am looking at costumes at disney direct and i like the queen of hearts and the goofy costume for my husband. If you have a disney visa card you can also get 25% off your total purchase of costumes at disney direct. It is a good deal since they are so expensive.

We're going Oct 30 and we'll all be pirates. DH will be Jack Sparrow, I'll be a pirate wench and DD will be a punk pirate.

Last year, DH was a Star Trek captain, DD was Jasmine and I just wore a FrankenGoofy tshirt.

Just a few more little easy ideas for some of you....Find most clothing at a Goodwill/charity store. Love them!

Tom Sawyer / Huck Finn / Becky - check out Goodwill or other stores like this. Get pants to big, roll the bottoms up, get old shoes there( spray with Lysol! ) and a plaid shirt you roll the sleeves up on. Use a bit of old hemp/natural rope as a belt or over the shoulder as suspenders. For Becky find an old Shirt dress or a long skirt and white/cream blouse. Find a cheap straw hat and add some silk flowers with hot glue. or use a BIG wide piece of ribbon and tie it in the hair. Apron? use an old white cotton bar/dish towel and tuck it into the top of the skirt apron and let it hang down...

Jail birds. Find old white shirt and pants. Use 3/4 or larger tape to make stripes on the shirt and pants. Use spray paint in Black or orange? to make stripes. Use a Wide Sharpie marker to add numbers on the back.. you could mask off a 3 to 4 inch wide X 8 to 12 in long box you dont paint and do the numbers there.
If you want to be "real" Jail "Birds" check out craft and fabric stores for Boa Feathers on sale this weekend. Hancock fabric has them for $3 to $5 each.

Also on year DS was the Night Sky. Very easy! we used black sweat pants and shirt - to hot for WDW! So use black T and pants... and then we took a bunch of silver and gold star garland we got at a Dollar store and wrapped it all around him, pinning it at the pant cuff, knee, waist, neck, and both hands...
Also if you do this with multi color star garland you can go as the (misspelling alaert here!), Aurora Borelois..... same idea, but if you can find a tye dye shirt and use it it with the star garland it looks pretty good!
We used 4-7 of the 9 foot garland, they have 25 foot ones now, and I always say more is better...

Also I have used Elmers Glitter Glue in hair for stage effets... it has allways washed out and adds a ton of effect! Used Green for the witch on a Wiz. of OZ show. Red, Gold and Silver for a Devil. Silver for and Angel... you get the idea.... Elmers also is aproved by the Food and Drug guys so we have used it in school a lot!

Look for iron on letters at craft stores/WalMart and use them on T shirts or Thrift store dress shirts to make up "Service" industry companies.... Think "Mickey's" Ice Cream Tasters... "Donalds"?... Add a cap with the inatials of the "company" and you have a keepsake and costume!
How about "O.D.R.T" Member or President or? in very large letters as in Offical Disney Ride Tester(in very much smaller letters).

Have a few more ideas, but laundry and kids call. Will post latter.

You all have had some great ideas and costumes, can't wait till the 6th!

we went 2 yrs ago and our whole group dressed as pirates with one Peter Pan.Kept it really simple with shorts and stripped shirts and pirate accessories.
We put mustaches on with eye liner and Peter Pan stopped in the Parade to talk to us! My son and nephew( Peter and Capt. Hook) were thrilled. Adults wore cheap skull caps with pirate theme bought at Disney Mall off site for $3 dollars. What a great night we had. My son and I are going this year. Will be wearing Incredibiles Shirts, black shorts (or pants) and masks. Have fun but keep it really simple as you run around alot and it was 85 degrees. liammom :cool1:

I am an incredibly shy person...and really want to dress up for MNSSHP since I haven't trick or treated in years. If I go and other adults aren't in costume, I'll feel uncomfortable all night. Are any of ya'll going on the 21st? In the past, were lots of adults in costume or just a handful?

Atotty...Yes by that late in Oct.,and it being the weekend before Halloween weekend there will be lots of Adults in costume too!!

Don't worry!!!
